I'm wondering how can he legally live in this place. Part of the problem is we are not allowed to live alternatively like this. We are forced to live by the building codes. So many restrictions. He kinda mentions this at the end of the video.
you have to inherit or pay for the land or something. it's not like u can live this way freely in our society, but that's also not the point of the video i think either. it's something u can escape to though if u save up or inherit some money i guess.
It's incredibly frustrating. I own two lots on an island in the NW and I'm restricted by so many regulations and a minimum building size of about 1,400 sq. feet. I can't build a small or tiny home on either of the lots and I certainly couldn't put something naturally built on it.
@@kristinab1078it's going to take a coordinated effort to fight back against these restrictions and ensure that there are at least zones in every area where people can build natural and traditional houses and live simply. Living simply is great for the health and spirit, but it's not great for the businesses that rely on public policies to keep people trapped in the rat race and the investors who profit from that exploitation. There are places up and down Appalachia and the Atlantic and Gulf coasts that have no housing code and some land that's not outrageously expensive, but they're just dotted here and there and not necessarily easy to find. I doubt there's anything like that west of the Cascades, though.
what frustrates me is there doesn't appear to be any place within reach of basic services, in Canada, where there isn't someone who will come tear it down if you build outside of their narrow list of approved methods. Unfortunately, the listed methods are terribly expensive, resulting in no ability to build one's own home anymore unless one is quite well moneyed. Or mortgaged. And then you have to hire a builder anyway because, again, the rules say you need a whole team of professionals to do the work. Since they demand such complicated buildings. Very frustrating. I've been an interior painter all my life, so I actually have a few clues on the codes and how they've changed. It's a tough one because you don't want children being housed in a dangerous build. Yet we must reopen the opportunities for people to build their own home, however primitive they choose to live! It would actually do more for the housing crisis than any cash injection from the public purse.
I live here too. I am resolute in that when I build my own place, it will be without rules. And so you must go unincorporated. Doesnt that make sense to you? Fantastic little home. I love that you spoke to how society prevents most people in most places from building these common sense, affordable, sustainable homes. We have four options: A) Do nothing & let suffering continue B) Change the laws to legalize creativity C) Move to a place without these restrictive laws. D) If the laws won't change, and we can't move, and we don't want to give up -- just start building :)
@@pascualdesolo It’s true. That happens. It’s often best to build further away from cities. That said, as conditions worsen for many people, the authorities can’t enforce everywhere at once. Eventually if enough people are building what works for them, it can build a critical mass. I think it’s inevitable as people become more desperate for affordable housing and as food costs / inflation rises.

A man after my own heart. I have been wanting to build a home out of mud and straw for well over a decade.I have designed a couple of different styles of homes. It always boils down to having the land. I did have the land once upon a time but for reasons I won’t go into I no longer have that. But I haven’t given up the dream and I think Mexico might be a good option. I do believe in home as a community endeavor and as a community building endeavor. I would like my home to be a form of outreach, that encourages and teaches others to be empowered to build the home of their dreams. People who have been left out of the modern system, and are in substandard housing, still chasing an ideal they’ll never achieve. I would like them to know that they can live with dignity, safety, and in comfort, without being plugged into all that as it only keeps them in a place of subjugation, marginalized, and poverty stricken.
So beautiful! Only 2 things I'd change is not having glass above my head (skylights make me nervous 😂) and adding a door haha but he right, the doorway is so beautiful. I'd get wood wet, bend it to the shape, let it dry, mold it on, measure it out ane cut a cutsom door then carve it. Slap a window in it, OMG that'd be beautiful too.😊
Omg this is amazing I live in southern California and I just buy a piece of land dreaming to build a house like that I'm currently living in the middle of nothing in my old trailer with no electricity, water or propane completely of grid I'll really appreciate it if anyone from here who read my message if they are close to my area can get it touch with me who can help me with some advice is my dream cause I been having really bad times for the last 5 years so I'm getting kind of frustrated thanks for sharing this inspirational videos God bless you all I'm Gaby from California
This is quite beautiful! It reminds me of the home my mom and her mom built together by hand. They used pine tree wood to make the frame and bamboo+straw with mud mixed with cow dung to fill the walls.
So true, everyone having the chance to build their own home, they should teach it in school and how to survive locally. I love your mindset and the video reminds me of my song lyrics for some reason, super rad dude, your a inspiration to this world for sure, Big up Life!

Thank you for that injection of grounded optimism about humanity, I feel the same way but I’m not around many others who do at this time in my life (for compelling reasons). It means so much to have come across this video on this evening far away across the planet and be reminded I’m not alone even if I am delusional. Beautiful project too 😊

You're not delusional.
Eyes have to be opened to see we have been duped with a false sense of reality.
If...if mankind could reach that level of consciousness, we will be alright.
Oh my....how I LOVE your soul!!! How are you leaving your mark? By doing EXACTLY what you're doing and being EXACTLY who you are! ❤ You are touching people you don't even know, in Country's you're not even in!! Be well you beautiful Soul! Thank you for sharing!!
💯💯
@@pascualdesolo It’s true. That happens. It’s often best to build further away from cities. That said, as conditions worsen for many people, the authorities can’t enforce everywhere at once. Eventually if enough people are building what works for them, it can build a critical mass. I think it’s inevitable as people become more desperate for affordable housing and as food costs / inflation rises.
All mud is shit. Call it what it is. A house of shit. Still a great house.
Don't forget that you have national debt on your shoulders and you will have to pay txs for your own house.
@@OffGridGuides be an artist, I support it but if your artistic home starts making parking in front of my home or starts bringing heavy for traffic, you better believe the city will be called. Be an artist where it won't negatively affect others. Traffic jams in small neighborhoods is absolutely negatively affecting homeowners and taxpayers
I am smitten with the organically fluid details around the windows and "portal"... I love this guy.
Great job capturing Sage's original natural home and his healing perspective through video!
Inspiring! I also want to live like this... Society makes it all so difficult. Thanks Sage for raising the collective consciousness. I appreciate you 🧡
Just so nice. You create your home with love and you want to share it. Thank you from Belgium 👋🙏🍀
💙💙💙
This is awesome! This is truly affordable & nicer than anything you can buy & you get to build with your own hands & appreciate that creativity & imagination.
I absolutely love this. I also love the fact that this guy exists. Thank you.
this is why im learning ceramics and wanna build houses with this skill, its about natural building forsure
Absolutely brilliant very inspiring
I finally found someone just like me. Thank you so much Sage. My Dream has always been to live like u are.
I resonated with every single word. Beautiful human, peace creativity and abundance to you. ❤
This guy made me want to cry so many times.
What a beautiful soul you have Sage
And a truly lovely little home
Peace to you brother ☮️ 😊💕
This is beautiful. This what we need instead of paying mortgages for life.
Bathroom usage? Water supply? Land acquirement? A lot was left out.
Beautiful "home" in a true sense. Thanks you give me hope in humanity.
🙏🙏
What he just said about the beetles made me tear up. So profound!
So glad I decided to watch! ❤
If we humans lived this way, not only are our needs met but also the needs of the non-human kind are met ... In other words, paradise is achieved for all ✨🕊️🌈
Bravo Sage! This is a fabulous creation. Love that you want to 'make invisible energy visible'. So precious in a world of creepy consumptive madness. Love this. Thank you Cooper Green for sharing this.

I freakin love this guy.
Thank you so much You are a little fresh air in that moderne world that will keep flowing into minds and hopefully one day everyone will understand ! ❤
Amazing I'm going to do my own art in this amazing planet amazing Gaia
So beautiful! Only 2 things I'd change is not having glass above my head (skylights make me nervous 😂) and adding a door haha but he right, the doorway is so beautiful. I'd get wood wet, bend it to the shape, let it dry, mold it on, measure it out ane cut a cutsom door then carve it. Slap a window in it, OMG that'd be beautiful too.😊
So astoundingly gorgeous in every way. Simply beautiful artist and art... Sage's words...may they be heard everywhere 💓 Thank you ✨🌱✨

good luck! hope you get some advice soon :)
Thank you for your beautiful words of hope. You are creating what you believe and this helps us all believe that there's hope for a beautiful future.
Thank you for your kind words 🫶🙏
This is quite beautiful! It reminds me of the home my mom and her mom built together by hand. They used pine tree wood to make the frame and bamboo+straw with mud mixed with cow dung to fill the walls.
This house is so beautiful, and I loved the message. Many things to think about. But this is definitely the dream
So true, everyone having the chance to build their own home, they should teach it in school and how to survive locally. I love your mindset and the video reminds me of my song lyrics for some reason, super rad dude, your a inspiration to this world for sure, Big up Life!

This is taught in all waldorf schools. Education can be what is required right now in human evolution....and why not?
@@BeckaEcka I actually built my own log home and it was one of the best things I have ever done. Thanks for your comment!
Beautiful! This home shows why cob is also known as sculptural adobe.
What do you for a kitchen? And toilet requirements?
"Doors are just kind of annoying; they're in the way." Sage Stoneman, I'll be quoting you on this one. Love it.
Amazing creativity! Where is he located? Thank you for shining light on his being in this journey called life. I am subscribed.

Genuinely beautiful
Love every bit of this. People could absolutely combine modern ideas with natural living and find or create a balance
Hey you guys should do a video on Compressed Earth Blocks.
Most cities won't let you build with Cob but Compressed Earth Blocks are premited in any municipalities using IBC codes. Which is a Ton of municipalities.
I hope it's safe over there, be careful , otherwise I really love the idea of the bed placing, I would enjoy having such a bed.
It’s safer than most places I’d say haha
😮 I'm digging this video so much I'm getting ready to retire in a van with drums attached to the floor
You're truly amazing and you're real human

I’m curious about how the land was afforded and how he trusts people enough to live without doors
Probably BLM land
