Unique Sustainable Home Built with Nearly 100% Natural Materials - Green Building Tour

  • The Eagleyew house is a beautifully sculpted custom green home built with nearly 100% natural materials! The light clay walls are made with a mixture of clay and straw, and the timber frame structure is built using wood from the property. There is a wraparound living roof, and the interior has earthen cob floors and natural plasters.
    This house has three heat sources, including a passive solar design, a masonry stove, and an annualized geo solar system. There are also three solar hot water panels on the roof, a well for fresh water, a septic system for waste, and the house is connected to the grid for electricity.
    In this video, Ezio, the owner, gives us a full tour, and he’s also going to share some of the challenges he’s encountered while building and living in this alternative energy-efficient home.
    You can find out more about the Eaglenest Sanctuary retreat on Vancouver Island, BC here:

    This house is, as he said, “a masterpiece”. He is an artist who brought his dream to life. I loved the view where you can’t tell which steps are going up and which are going down! I paused the video there, and sure enough! I couldn’t tell! That bowled me over, thinking that he had planned that long before the building stage!

    This may sound strange but this house is a mess. I say that in a good way! alot of these home tours have houses that look staged or straight off the manufacture floor. This house looks lived in and I appreciate he didn't attempt to remove the lived in look. this gives a better idea of how the house really functions. where they spend the most time. where items tend to collect. as a person who plans on building their own home in the near future these are the kind of videos i enjoy watching! lovely home and lovely video. kudos!

    I love the use of a geothermal energy system here, especially as an engineer. I have to say, though, that however perfect this situation may seem to many people aware of the ecological/climate issue, such a solution probably wouldn't be practical for many other modes of human habitation on the planet. This house supports a single family (upwards of maybe 2-3), but how would this solution be adaptable to multi-dwelling situations? How do we combine permaculture ethics and sustainable living with high population densities? Again, as an engineer, I hope to be a part of that solution process in my lifetime.

    This house is very impressive. The owner being a carpenter, he added much of his craftmanship to the woodwork, countertops and furniture pieces. The owner is a Renaissance man as he is very knowledgeable about many different things and appreciates the environment. too.

  • @SonicPhonic
    @SonicPhonic 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Wow so impressive! Congratulations! So many people don't even know the value of South, East and West! The house I share was mass produced and the trim is cardboard/press-wood; it retains water and mold. So many houses I've seen being built are falling apart as they build them. Home buyers really need to educate themselves, and foreign ownership of multiple properties in Canada needs to stop.

    • @patrickamos5390

      AGS works in much the same way as Passive Annual Heat Storage. Because earthen mass is a slow 'semi' conductor of thermal energy, we can evoke a desired lag effect. The trick here in the we{s}t coast is to insulate the ground under the house and isolate it from ground water table that rises during our winter mega-rain storms.

    This is absolutely the most beautiful house tour I have watched in this channel. The owner is such a brilliant man. I am learning while watching. I hope I could build or have a house like this in the future. 😊

    Love the house. Healing oils, drums etc., to be frank ---> whatever floats your boat. None of these things work and never will. If your mood improves after banging on a drum, that's purely you and circumstantial, however you convince yourself. The drum/oils etc are purely a fetish.
