    I made one a while back. Added a spring like the Dragon Door iso-chain as well. I used scrap wood and used a wide plank with 2 x 4 legs and used the threaded eye bolt secured underneath with a nut and washer. I use an adjustable nylon cargo strap instead of the chain, similar to the iso-max.

    Excellent video!
    I already made my own using straps that can handle over 1000kg, and some kind of metal tool I found out in the shed, as a bar.
    And a 2 by 4 to just wrap the strap around so no need for an attachment. It may take a bit longer to readjust length, but it doesn't clink.

    I got my stuff today. Better check the rating of the eye bolt. What I found out today is if the part that makes the loop isn’t welded to make a continuous unbroken ring then the load rating is surprisingly low. In order to get a load rating that matches your chain and carabiner you have to make sure that it isn’t bent to form a loop but you can see a small gap as in the case of the eye screw in this video. The one Chrys picked up in this video is only rated for 275 lb. I bought the same diameter today rated for 1,200 lb. Way more than I need but that welded loop makes all the difference.

    • @shumardi1
      @shumardi1 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Apparently TH-cam won’t let me post an external link. But the eyebolts I bought were not in the same aisle that Chrys was looking in. That is where I started too, but then someone came along and showed me there were other eyebolts the next aisle over. They were next to the chain. That is where the really heavy duty eyebolts are. If that guy didn’t show me where they were I would have never found them because who would know the store has eyebolts in two different aisles?

    • @shumardi1
      @shumardi1 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I bought a 3’ long, 1” black steel pipe. The outside diameter is 1.3”. I drilled a 3/8” hole through the middle and slid one of the eyebolts through. After snugging up the nut I cut the excess bolt off with a hacksaw.

    I've been using and modifying my DIY Isomax for well over half a year, going from a martial arts belt (ripped it) to gymnastics rings straps (easy to adjust, but can only hold 130kg/286lbs.); from just stepping on the strap to a wooden stick as a 'baseplate' to an almost proper baseplate made from an old sheet music stand (it's not bad, but bends on strong exercises). It's crazy what you can do with a few every-day items lying in the house and little creativity. The setup's fine, but I'll hopefully have saved up for the real Isomax by summer.

    Im a little late, but if anyone is looking for a cheap way to measure how much force your using with your diy isochain, then I'd recommend looking at crane scales. They can be awkward to use for certain lifts, but they are fairly cheap. I got one for around $35 that goes up to 2,000lbs (supposedly) and a smaller one that goes up to 800lbs on sale for $10. I would look for one that has a hold feature that will display the highest weight it detected, that or use a mirror to read your scale.

      Read my post above. I bought a 3’ section of 1” pipe. They also had 4’ long sections or shorter. The outside diameter of a schedule 40 1” black pipe is 1.3”. Drilling a 3/8” hole through the middle was easy. I slid an eyebolt in, snugged up the nut, and then cut the excess eyebolt off with a hacksaw.

    Dude, I love you and your channel. You're extremely knowledgeable about sports physiology and exercise and have created a strong, muscular, well sculpted body. But honesty you're definitely NOT a skilled "maker."
    1) That "bar" you bought is a concrete form bar. Pretty sure it's gonna bend and possibly even break suddenly the way you'll be using it, and in pretty short order given your level of strength. Not a good choice IMHO. Best use a bigger more solid steel bar with a thicker wall without a bunch of holes already drilled through it. Your bar needs to be thick walled with only ONE hole through the middle (you'll have to drill that with a metal drill bit on a slower speed with a drop or two of machine oil). That hole will be so you can attach another eye bolt through it to clip your carabiner on so it stays put and doesn't slide up and down the bar in the middle of a hold. Or you could skip that step if you can find a big enough carabiner to fit over your beefier bar, but it will be a pain having to worry about it sliding back and forth. Best to add the eye bolt IMO.
    2) It is MUCH better to use the other kind of eye bolt that has the narrow threads with the nut rather than a lag bolt style through your base. The lag bolt style eye bolt you're using absolutely WILL tear out of the board. It's just a matter of time. And the point will destroy your floor as it was sticking through your board slightly in your video. You probably backed it out a little to prevent that from happening, but that will only speed up the process of the bolt tearing out now because it's a tapered bolt. So now you'll have made a wider hole for the thicker section of the bolt that will no longer hold snug on the bolt after you've back it out a little. Because of that it will have a little play in it rather than being snug which will cause the threads to tear the wood fibers a little bit with every hold until it eventually just tears out of the wood altogether. Lastly, you can't use a nut to secure that style of bolt on the bottom because the threads of a nut will not fit on that style of bolt. Lag bolts have wide threads designed with a big bite to catch and hold in wood, not the fine threads designed for nuts to secure them on either side of a piece of wood.
    I would suggest picking up the eye bolt with the nut as well as two very wide (fender) washers (with holes large enough to fit over the bolt) and an extra locking nut as well. Thread the regular nut onto the eye bolt all the way up onto the bolt at first. Then put a fender washer on and THEN push the bolt through a hole you that you pre-drilled through the board that's the exact diameter of the bolt, so it fits through easily but has no slop in it. Then on the bottom, put the other fender washer on the bolt and thread the locking nut on until it's flush with the bottom of the bolt. Finally, tighten down the bolt that's on the top of the board until the board is tightly sandwiched between the two fender washers and bolts. This will keep that bolt from ever pulling out through the board. NOTE: You'll need to add strips of thinner wood (1/2" plywood scraps or 1 x material to the BOTTOM of your board on both sides of the nut. They need to be thick enough to space the nut up off the floor with a little extra gap so the whole platform sits flat and stable (vs rocking on the bolt) thereby keeping the bolt from marring your floor as well.
    3) You should definitely use a thicker board rather than a 2 x 4 so that your feet are fully supported on one level surface for stability and to prevent injury. A 2 x 4 will rest under only approximately 1/3 of your foot. Not good with you're trying to do a sissy squat! Depending on the size of your feet, you should use maybe a 2 x 10 or 2 x 12. Also, when you add the thinner boards to the bottom to keep the nut up off your floor, be sure to run the boards at cross grain to your top board (with the wood grains of the top board running one way and the wood grains of the bottom boards the other). First spread wood glue over the entire surface of the narrower thin bottom boards and then screw them into the thick top board from below, making sure the screws are inset into the thin pieces so the screw heads aren't poking out and scratching your floor. By gluing and screwing the boards at cross grain to the top board you'll add strength that will prevent your wide top board from splitting over time from all the force you're placing on it. Once the glue dries, you'll have a very sturdy base to stand on that won't split, won't have the bolt tear out of over time, and that will be nice and wide to fully support your feet.
    Thanks for all the support and encouragement. I'm learning a lot from you and wanted to give something back. Hope this is useful. Peace!

      The DragonDoor system handles up to 450kg of force. Wood will last a decent amount of time depending on strength level. If you're already fairly strong, you may want a metal plate but just beware of warping. The chain needs to be the right durability though as I mentioned in the video or it will snap. Provided it's right though, it'll last for a long while😁
