  • Going over the many uses of a Crane scale for Isometrics and Strength Testing. While it's not designed as a fitness tool, the variations and versatility is pretty impressive when you consider the price.

    Awesome video. When I got the Synapse almost two years ago now, I bought a Klau OSC-L scale off Amazon. It was about $50 and had a max hold feature. That's the key, as you point out. As time progresses, I expect there will be better options available as the crane scales are a little cumbersome.

      Thanks Parker. I know there's been a lot of you guys that have been using these sorts of devices for some time.

    A really good idea. This DIY is awesome

    Funny, I have been using these for years in order to confirm the "weight in hand" on various machines after the mechanical advantages or disadvantages of various pulley configurations, lever arm lengths, etc. They are very useful.

      Awesome to hear that. I’ve yet to really scratch the surface with this thing so these tips are great.

    I played around with a crane scale from Aliexpress. No decent peak hold. The best would be to have Bluetooth to display the force on a tablet screen for easy readability.

      Bluetooth would be nice for sure.

    This is awesome bro! I’ve been looking to do these kind of lifts like the ones at 1:55 since reading the USAWA website and your crane idea is exactly what I need to pair with my isochain to go beyond 1000 lbs!
    Can you link a place to get both those yellow straps?

    • @hybridresistance

      Thank you. I actually got those straps from some firefighters, but you can get heavy duty moving straps that are compatible at the hardware store.

    Would it be possible to try this on the totalgym and see how much body weight vs incline # as a percentage? maybe compare that vs their weight charts?

    • @hybridresistance

      You definitely could use this on the total gym, but I’d have to think about doing it in the way you’re describing

    Ive found one that looks pretty much the same as this with a 1500kg max read. Im not sure if it has a peak reading setting. Is that something most of these devices have?

  • @buddyryan875

    Good stuff! Chest press would be a problem on this wouldn't it? You would be basically locked out it's already far on isochain

    • @hybridresistance

      You can do a chest press either on one arm strapped to a band or wrapped around your chest like an iso max, but the length of the device might just cause problems fine tuning the distance.

    Tough guy #1: I can't move the bar! My number is 1,234 lbs force!
    Tough guy #2: I can do 1,333 and not move the bar! I'm tougher!
    The rest of us: Huh?

    I wonder if there is something like the X3 Force bar that's more this DIY style that could be done with bands. Would be interested to see that if it's possible.

    • @hybridresistance

      The force bar has some other tech in there accounting for the fluctuations in load to calculate total force, but you could for sure still use this for testing max loads with bands.

  • @briand5047

    Good idea. Seems like a safer method to test strength than going for 1 rep max on barbell exercises. Did you need to decrease isometrics since training HIT?

    • @hybridresistance

      My main reason for decreasing my isometric work is really back to time. I've been stretched thin overall so my training time is fairly tight recently. That and I've been testing out some other products for future reviews you'll be seeing in the future. I like to make sure I get a lot of time with a product before I review it.

      I gave up on it after it kept being weird. Basically doesn't turn on even with a full battery.
