I used to live in an RV full time with my family. We never traveled because we never had money because my parents don't work. We lived off of food stamps and child support. The RV was so small. I slept on a couch, my stepbrother slept on a couch, and my little brother slept on the cold hard wood floor. We had no space, no privacy, while my parents had a door, a big ass king sized bed and their own room. It was miserable living with 4 other people in a place that was that small. I recently turned 18 2 months ago and I moved out 2 days after i turned 18. It was the best day of my life. I live with my boyfriend now and i finally have my own space, a comfortable bed, and we don't live off of food stamps.

@@Ezraloveshoney for your information, my parents were not the best parents. I was forced to do everything in that RV while my parents didnt do anything but sit on their ass all day. My parents do not work. And they still have 2 kids to care for. I did not get a childhood because I was busy trying to be the 2nd parent to my siblings, I was busy trying to push myself through high school all while trying to juggle with my own mental health. Just to make this Clear:
In Germany, Homeschooling is generally not a concept. You are required by law to send your Kids to School and support them doing that or the Goverment will punish you if not straight up taking you Kids away.
She would also be Financially Supported if she is a German and could easily live in an Apartment with her Kids having their own Room.
In case she is German it sounds more like Child Abuse and avoiding the German Youth welfare Office.

      @GunniBusch1 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

Yes. And in addition to that, my parents, also somehow managed, to let myself choose how much, when I want to eat sweets, and somehow i didn’t abused it, because, I had alotbif freedom(not in a bad way, but rather in anyway, where, I could do my own choices, which my partners supported actively, they let me make mistakes, but helped me stand up again)(really a lot) and purely based on trust. So this lead to a very strong trust bond, and this made us somehow really close, I don’t know how they did that. When I saw my friends, they asked if they could have sweets, parents said no. I (mostly) didn’t have to ask, (but often did that in my own will). And my parents also sind not forced me to do things I don’t like, didn’t forced me to eat things I don’t like, but made me so I would try things and then decide if I like them or not. And there were also no spereate foods. If I wanted pizza (sometimes, and like my parents were not against it,), everybody had pizza, but also, if they clocked fish, then everyone had fish, and if someone didn’t liked it (never tried, just preference) then they would find a solution,
The point I try to make here, is to not over control kids, show them what trust means, show them what it means NOT having trust, (which bís importent to learn). And yes, quilt tripping is not a. Very nice way, but it makes someone clear on what another person reales like about something without telling them no. And doing this correctly, you could even allow your kids/teens to go out at night, without giving them a time to go back, and they will know on their own, when they should come home (of course, they first need to be told what’s ok and what’s not in some way), and they do. And yes, maybe some kids this won’t work, but, in my opinion these are special occasions. And also if the kid wants to jump from the tree then let them. If they break their leg, not good, but they gain trust in themselves, and learn to Jude. If the parent would say don’t jump, (ok if this is a 20 m high tree I get it ), the kids won’t understand why. And yes it will hurt, and yes they will maybe be mad, but next time, they will not jump and maybe not climb high. And also learn that Avery thing they do will have consequences, which a lot of adults don’t even know, because they don’t had a chance to learn it.

I travelled full time with my mum from the age of 7 to 13.
It was just us 2 but I still hated it.
Yes, I saw a lot of places and experienced a lot of things, and there were good moments, but I still hated it. I literally can't even imagine if I had a sibling, LET ALONE TEN OF THEM. I would probably just run away, for real.
I wasn't allowed internet or a phone and we never stayed anywhere any longer than a few weeks at most which meant if I did make friends, I wouldn't have them for long.
It was lonely and boring and alienating and I would NOT recommend this life to anyone for more than just the occasional road trip.
It f**ked up my social development so badly that when I was eventually put in school I developed clinical depression, anxiety, an eating disorder, and behavioural issues (which I luckily grew out of).

As a homeschooled person, "they learn by themselves I don't have to do anything" IS A RED FLAG AF. In my country homeschooling is just going to school that doesn't force a schedule on you, so each student is still a couple of minutes away from talking with a teacher if they need to, and many of us use that a lot! I have some sort of interaction with our teachers almost every day, sometimes I come to listen to some online classes, sometimes I make sure I know what I can do for my exams (we have written and oral, oral exams are a bit more complicated and many of us do projects, but we need to know if they're fine for the subject) , sometimes I go into some online discussion organised by the school (for example we have classes where the teacher just throws a topic and we are supposed to speak it through in another language! Or sometimes we play games in this other language, it's very fun and people are great). We also can get ourselves a call with a psychologist, which, in this country, is amazing, because we don't have a right to go to doctors without parent's permission, but here we control what classes we take and what online meetings we go to. Being homeschooled without all that support sounds like a nightmare. Humans learn through play, experiences, interactions with people. While I don't think public schools do that well, in our school we are considered equals to our teachers and speaking with them is great. It really encourages to speak up and actively learn and get curious. I think I'm much braver than I was when I was in public school. Education is the parent's duty, in public school it's already a red flag when somebody thinks their child's education is not their business, but in homeschool? That's a recipe for failure.

While I mostly stay to onilne interactions as I live in a place away from anyone (which is no change from public school, I was a bit of an outcast and I'm an hour away from a city), the school organizes meetings in many cities in the country and has at least one building that I know on where there are everyday normal classes. We have a mobile app dedicated for meetings, and we're encouraged to create our own, so this is very easy to meet people from school. I usually just take care of my contacts on my own and meet people my age that don't go to the same school as I do, for example by volunteering in a shelter. I get e-mails from school about new meetings at least... once a month? once two months? And in one message there are multiple dates and places. I've been on a picnic organized by the school and it was very fun. There were some places for DIY, cakes, different attractions. It's very easy to find people to talk with there :)

@@SILLYGOOBSTER-LOLXDD Yeah, the system is really bad, but there are schools that don't go with the Polish system (check Budząca się Szkoła, they've got a map of those!). I also totally get what you're talking about, I've ADHD and autism and anxiety and I never got any help. A lot depends on the school you go to. I went to a liceum that was really accepting, but I know I was lucky there. Still, I went to Chmura and I feel better here. Also going homeschooled when you can't trust your parents... It probably would be impossible in any way. It's a scary and big decision overall, it helps a bit to realize school is not that big of a deal, you can't be lawfully discriminated because of being homeschooled, the grades don't matter to anybody after it... but parents sometimes make that very hard. The school I was in before homeschooling allows me to visit! So I am able to see my old classmates. I don't know if other schools would allow that tho... Good luck to you, going to school in Poland is not easy. They expect so much and give nothing back. (also your English is not bad, it's easy to understand from context even if there are mistakes, and in the real world that's all that matters)

I’m also fortunate to have parents that listen to my complaints about homeschooling. I’m glad I’m homeschooling during this time, but I’m also glad to go back to public school in around a year or two. I’m so sorry for everything you’ve gone through, and what you’re going through. I haven’t been homeschooled my whole life, so I have it easy compared to you. I hope your future becomes SO much better! I pray life will treat you so much better as it comes along. Husband was homeschooled, I went to public. He loved it because he was doing terrible in a structured curriculum. He needed more time and more ability to move his body. I loved going to public school for a place with structure and places to have quiet thoughts. We're on the fence with our kids. I don't want to lose the social connections of public. He doesn't want the rigidity and allows us the freedom to study at our child's pace.

My issue with her "homeschooling," is that it comes across as lazy. In the earlier 2000s, there was a father and daughter living in a lean to in a protected forest in Oregon. He homeschooled his daughter using a set World Book Encyclopedias, but because the father was actively teaching his kid, the girl was described as being well spoken and even a little a head of her peers academically. This chick has an "app" teaching her kids and it seems to be the only form of education, besides meeting (unvetted and potentially dangerous) new people & being a constant tourist. She doesn't give a real schedule about doing reading, writing and arithmetic, having her kids do reports about cultural or historical aspects of whatever place they are in or learning new languages. The "app" is deciding her kids' education. She is putting in as much or even less work than suburban moms that send their kids to school and go to work.
I feel sorry for the rest of the family. I wouldn't be surprised if the ex husband would have loved to take the kids he shares with this narcissist and let her bum around with her hobo boyfriend, but now she has a baby with the hobo, the other kids really don't want to be separated from the sibling and the dad either has to tagalog or rarely see his kids.

I was homeschooled by my mother for a few years, they bought all the workbooks to our chosen curriculum. After returning to public school, I was academically ahead too, and my social skills weren't impacted because I participated in sports etc. So yeah, homeschooling is not as bad as some make it out to be, it just depends on the parent and their intentions.

12:00 As a note, you are a Spaniard by virtue of being born in Spain regardless of your parents' country of origin, and you can only lose Spanish nationality if you are of legal age and request it by yourself (parents have no authority in this regard). School enrolling is compulsory for all Spanish citizens and homeschooling is illegal here (education legislation is straightforward, no loopholes to be exploited); sooo I really hope they enroll their little child in a real school when the child is of age because if not, one fine day they may end up surrounded by Europol agents themselves.
I hope all their children get an honest and stable education and life, instead of being TikTok cannon fodder. It must be horrible to grow up in such an environment...

As a child who begged to be homeschooled bc of bullying and As a mommy who is homeschooling, my kids come first. School is a huge deal in our family. My daughter is two and knows how to count to ten, her abcs, animals noises, animals, she sings, signs, talks in full sentences. We also get out of the house every day for child intercation. Wheter that be the park, library or children's museum. I also made sure to have lots of mommy friends that have kiddos my kids age. Homeschooling isnt always abuse, its how you homeschool.

I so agree! I think regular school is horrible. The idea is for kids to learn so they can have jobs, learn life, and social skills, and all that is great, but the execution is terrible. They overwork them to the point of mental abuse, and when the other kids say or do something instead of the teachers fixing it so it doesn't happen again, they don't even bother. It causes so many issues. I think homeschooling is great because they can learn everything without being overworked, and then as long as they do other activities, they get all of the social and life skills!

As a teacher in Germany who taught with an app during the pandemic, having the children doing those tasks on the app only is not sufficient. These apps are mainly just multiple choice tasks, no critical thinking and no expressing of one's own opinion. It's fine AS AN ADDITION but not instead of school. And of course everything you mentioned about social skills. They could get a diploma if they write an exam at a public school but if they are only being taught by an app they will have no idea how those tests are structured and what is required.

Many people still throw their bottles into the trash so many poor people go and rummage through the trash to collect those bottles and cash them in. Excuse you, lady! I have excellent relationships with my parents and siblings and we DID live in a camper for a summer. You wanna know what it was like? It was damn close to hell! Two working adults (my dad as a mechanical engineer in an office and my mum as a real estate agent at the time), my brother was 20 and trying to figure out how to get to his university classes regularly, my sister was 16 and was graduating high school, and I was 11 and struggling with middle school because my learning disabilities were not identified yet. We needed to live in a camper for a summer because we were moving to another city and the closing dates of our old house and the new house didn’t line up all that well, so we were technically homeless for 147 days.
By the end, we were at each other’s throats and by the time we made it to the new house we immediately picked our room and took a nap, not caring our beds weren’t delivered from storage yet.

The scariest part, to me, was that the mother thinks the kids are happy because they tell her they are happy. Among all the things you said, a lot of times kids learn to shut up and be quiet lest they make their parents angry and/or sad. The mother doesn't seem to realize that, and she doesn't seem like the kind of person who will encourage emotional honesty and openness to her kids. "My child is fine!" I want to point out that the power imbalance between the kid and the parent has a big role to play. Even if she does talk to her kids, they might be saying yes to make her happy and not complain. My family had to move a lot because of homelessness, and by the time they were simply moving for no reason, I just accepted it because that's how it had always been. It wasn't until I became an adult that I started to resent my parents for breaking so many promises about my stability. And yeah, maybe they like it, but you are locking them into the influencer lifestyle which is not for everybody. They need an education so they have something to fall back on, and they won't be able to live later on if they do decide they want to be a part of society again.

so in 2020 my dad had to travel for work and would be away for months as he was filling in for a guy who couldnt come there due to the travel laws between countrys. we got an RV and me, my parents and 2 younger sibs went tow here my dad was working, it was originally only supposed to be a month or two but turned to 8 months as the travel bans never lifted for a long while, so at first it was more of a temp set up but it evolved into a actual living space. i mean i was awkwardly in a bunk but otherwise everyone had their own space.
im now moved out into my own RV and my parents and younger sibs are still in the original RV but heres the thing, my siblings arent sleeping on the floor or only have a certain. they have full on rooms. 4 walls. twin mattresses and desks. they are home schooled but they attend this like homeschool co-op thats basically school except run by homeschool parents who actually want to teach and they teach actual things they will need in the future and not just the dumb shit schools shove into their brains or try to make them fit into a mold. they have friends, social lives, privacy and are happy. my parents are looking into getting a house around here but first need to get stuff in order and find a home thats actually in the price range.
so like RV life can be done right but most of these RV life family vloggers are doing it all wrong. they have no respect for their kids and their privacy or feelings. they shove them into small spaces, shove a camera in their faces and show the world the most embarassing, personal and private things for millions to see, they starve their kids of actual social lives and expose their children to social media which is not good for them at all. these parents absolutely suck and seem to view their kids more like view magnets then actual people with lives, feelings and rights. they parent poorly and then call anyone pointing out the issues as haters and just ignore the red flags of their kids not being okay!
it pisses me off! RV living can be done right but they are doing it so unbelievably poorly that it makes it seem like anyone who chooses the home school RV life are psycho losers who have no concern for their kids

I used to live in a very small camper because my parents had bought some land and were planning to build. They had built a small bunk bed that I barely fit on (I was tall as a kid) I had the top bunk and it was always so hot. My brother got the bottom. We didn’t even have curtains or privacy. You would walk in the door, see a couch, turn to your right, see a tiny tv, turn to your left, see a very small kitchen that breaks worked (the floor was also sinking in along with the ceiling) and then you would see the bunk bed. If you walked into the hall you would go through a doorway, see a tiny bathroom with a shower and trailer along with a sink. You would then go through another door and would be met with a queen sized bed, huge tv, a huge closet, and tons of storage. That was my parents room. I was so miserable during those 3 years of my life that it wasn’t even funny. I feel so bad for these children that had to go through that but with worse conditions. At least I went to public school.

I can’t believe we are calling RV’s, busses and trailers “vans” but anyways-this is what we did. My kids travel a lot and so get burnt out eventually, but also public school is its own drain and I could barely get my kids to the end of the month of public school before we left on our last extended trip. They returned just before the end of the school year and got to reconnect socially, academically they did very well.
We homeschooled for 3 months to travel many states (real school was 6 months and we do study during the summer to stay ahead). During the summer we only take brief local trips because kids have soccer, camps, grandparent trips plus we love it here in the summer.

Unless there are exceptional circumstances that JUSTIFY it (a friend of mine was homeschooled for several years because he was born while both his parents were doing research on fish and frogs in the middle of the Amazon), homeschooling should definitely be considered a form of child abuse. The toll on social and emotional development it has on an individual is far too big.

Just fyi you can definitely learn social skills on the road, the kids just need to meet up with other children, there’s special online communities for that. I don’t know if this particular family does it, just pointing out that if they do actually care, they can easily set up playdates and group study sessions for the kids to help them integrate with other children their age. I don’t think social skills are an issue if properly taken care of, if anything I’d worry about the children’s emotional state instead, due to the lack of permanent relationships with anyone outside of their family. If their family is constantly traveling then at best they’ll have online friendships and friends they meet up with a few times a year, and I’d worry that this could impact the way they form attachment to people in the future.

Having experienced private school, public school, and homeschooling, I can certainly see benefits from each but I feel I got the most from the homeschooling educationally and the ability to self-educate which I find still benefits me greatly to this day. I really can't say the same for the other two. How people act in school is not how adults act in real life so I'm not sure that all the bullying I experienced did anything but make me a very hurt and hateful person in my youth. I agree with you that the family unit you have done this piece on seems majorly dysfunctional, but I don't think that your limited experience with homeschooled children can give you the ability to pass such a heavy judgement on those who actually find it beneficial and do it legally and properly.

@@edwardlthompson Thank you for saying this! I was homeschooled for most of my life but went to a charter school when I was older. My experience homeschooling wasn't perfect, but my mom laid out a great foundation for me, and most of the kids in our local homeschooling community were years ahead of the average student academically. Meanwhile, I had an atrocious experience in high school with myriad incompetent teachers, unmanageable stress levels, social ostracization, and mental health crises that lead to me hating school and learning almost nothing. There are definitely issues with homeschooling - for example, it is pretty difficult to socialize with others - but I think I would've been miserable at public school. And my fellow homeschooled friends are some of the sweetest, most thoughtful and intelligent people I know. We're not just weird, uneducated freaks as is often (unfortunately) portrayed online.

When our daughter was 1 my husband got a job where he traveled for up to 10 months out of the year. It was very hard for our little family and when she turned three we made the decision to travel for a year with him before she would inevitably have to start school. ( I’d never be brave enough for homeschool) It was an incredible experience. One that I hold even more dear bc 6 months into our travel we found out I was pregnant with twins! I cherished every single second experiencing new places and making memories with baby girl before we became a family of 5! With that said. 1. We traveled and stayed in suites or extended stay hotels. 2. We never ever thought long term this would be a way of life for our children as roots and connections are so important for healthy children. Thankfully 2 months after our twin girls arrived my husband took a position that didn’t involve travel! I feel so incredibly sad for these children. You can certainly travel and have roots. Living out of a glorified car with older children should be classified as abuse.
