- TikTok Tunnel Girl aka Kala is a tiktoker that is digging a tunnel system under her house or as she calls it a "suburban mine." I don't recommend you tunnel anything under your house unless you have a permit and are actually qualified to do this, BUT I do think Kala is pretty smart and capable. I hope this tunnel doesn't cause a massive sink hole.

She seems a danger to herself and others really. If she actually felt she could do the work properly she could have just gotten the proper permits to do so. But standing under wet cement seems just dumb.

Agree, it would be one thing if she was digging in the middle of nowhere but it is another to do it in residential area. She wants to endanger herself that is fine, digging a tunnel with the help of google around other peoples homes it is not OK. If the tunnel collapses it will drag earth from around possibly making the foundations of neighboring houses unstable.
when i first saw her vids on my fyp, i was fully under the assumption that she had her own land and was doing this on a large property she owned, turns out she was in a suburban neighborhood with neighbors next door lmaooo. Still entertaining as fuck to just see someone randomly decide to start a mine.

Personally, I think the biggest issue is the fact that these drawbacks happened because she didn't do the proper research in the first place.
If Kala ever stopped to think "why don't more people dig tunnels under their houses?", or "why do workshops have designated welding space?", or "what's the difference between using fiberglass rebar and steel rebar?", then there would've been a lot less "learning experiences".
It's like when Dale Gribble tried to build a guard tower in his yard. I don't even watch King of the Hill.
Great vid, I will only disagree with the neutrality of your presentation. The reason for that is that she's endangering herself (and her neighbors properties), she's giving an awful example to other adults or kids to do the same (there's a reason you need permit to build a tunnel) and she doesn't see how dangerous is to play with electricity, or remove house walls, foundations and plastic isolation against water. When the house collapses (it's not an if, it's when) I hope she's not inside of it. I'm sure then she will make a gofund me page to repeat the same mistake. Real engineers btw, first create the blueprint, then test the 3d model statics and then receive the permit to built it.

That way your further research won't be impacted by what they are trying to make you believe and you are ready to confront them or call them out on your lies. This feels underresearched and overly positive
I genuinely like the more neutral take. I prefer to make up my own mind on how I feel about things and that's just easier to do with a more neutral presentation for me

She’s such a genius in the way she just learns all of this stuff but I really really wish she went to school for it and did this stuff as a job instead because this is so dangerous. But props to her for just learning electricity like that though.

To me, she is genuinely a horrible person and is taking advantage of her neighbors' fear of the police to do whatever she wants without consequences (she lives in a mostly immigrant neighborhood). Imagine having to deal with someone's constant construction noise for 3 years! Day and night!! Absolute torture. Let alone the danger she is putting their houses through!

This doesnt seem to even scratch the surface of the concerns that people were reasonably having with Kala, it comes off as more of a half-baked puff piece that waves off valid concerns which is unfortunate because you appear to be quite a talented person when it comes to presentation, the skits were fun.
Kala was digging below the slab of her house into areas that could seriously jeopardize the structural integrity of the neighboring homes in the tightly packed suburb that she lives in.
One of the ways this can happen is if there are different sedimentary deposits below the land or air pockets that make for unstable ground on the surface, this has been a fatal flaw of tunnel projects in the past.
She claimed to be an "engineer" even though she was simply a software engineer, which you had quickly brushed off before moving on. The "DIY" nature of her content has the potential to endanger or kill her or even viewers that may think it's safe to replicate some of the things she does.
Engineering can be a fatal field, especially when working underground or with electricity in any capacity. One zap and you are dead. Full stop. I promise, I've known people that have been gravely disfigured in lesser instances and they actually knew what they were doing. Her thinking that it's a smart idea to advertise potentially life threatening naivety is foolish.
The process of receiving a permit, especially when you're in the middle of digging an illegal tunnel, is thorough. If even one key element of the tunnel isnt up to code Her project will most likely be shut down, potentially permanently if it has led to infrastructural damage.
The gross and disappointing irresponsibility and unreliability displayed on your part is moreso regarding your approach to talking about her neighbors, mainly the fact that after discussing that they were unaware of the scale of what was exactly happening until they were informed by Bogado and that a non-negligable portion of them were Central American migrants, who, in fear of potentially harmful unfair escalations of situations like these that may result from them reporting Kala, ended up staying silent, you jeered at the neighbor(s) that might've jeopardized themselves by rightfully "snitching" and proceeded to absolutely glaze Kala when talking about her response. (Kala's ignorance to her neighbors' many many concerns (accidentally or otherwise) may be aligned with her "neutral" claims of "respect" for Trump in multiple comments that she has made on her own videos in response to comments, but that might somehow be a stretch for some so I'll leave it be)
Also, if you're covering a topic regarding a potentially divisive individual and you actually have an ounce of integrity, you'd do your rather thorough due diligence and attempt to reach out to professionals in the field that can contest or corroborate Kala's claims, find out why she was being "witch-hunted" earlier in the year, try to reach out to Bogado (or at least mention that you had tried if you did), and when interviewing the person in question, approaching the subject with objectivity, maturity and actually probing questions rather than some softball Q&A with a hint of what comes off as infantilization at times.
Again you seem to mean well but if your goal has been to inform then unfortunately the opposite has been acheived. This was an entertaining video regardless and I'm genuinely looking forward to seeing where you and your channel go from here.
I get where you are coming from, and I agree with all your points. I COULD have gone harder at her but after we spoke on the phone i didn't feel comfortable being mean.
ALSO If you are looking for me to criticize her you aren't going to find that here. I try to stay pretty neutral with topics like these as I'm not an expert, and I try to keep my topics pretty light hearted. I think i addressed the criticism pretty well, and all the things that have been done wrong by Kala. I'm not going to scold her.
I did speak to Bodago on the phone, A LOT. There's a lot i couldn't say and a lot of reasons why i chose not to go at Kala as hard as I initially wanted to. Big part of that is also, she was doxxed. Being doxxed is not okay.
It's also super out of my hands now, she is being inspected and SO FAR nothing bad has happened with the project. So far it hasn't collapsed. In my uneducated judgment, after speaking to Kala a lot and watching her entire discography, I'm pretty sure it won't collapse in the future either. She's very competent.
The whole neighbour stuff was very bad, obviously. I did discuss that but again, I'm not here to bully anybody. She gotten enough of that. The point of the video was for you to make your own judgement on the matter, I don't want to force my uneducated opinion on anybody. Plus, none of us truly know the extent of how dangerous this truly is as we haven't seen it in person. Same goes if I brought it an "expert" - they haven't seen it, how will they know?
@@shirashiraonthewall When it comes to consulting someone experienced & certified on a matter like this, it's more with the purpose of filling in any gaps in knowledge that may come up when looking to present a narrative to your audience, even with levity. Yes they're not physically in the tunnel, but with a cursory review of kala's backlog it'd be enough to at least provide important safety information that you, or even Kala in this case, may be missing when approaching the topic of diy work in this field.
A topic as contentious as this can be tricky to navigate, especially when attempting to avoid being perceived as generally critical or rude. I understand the need to address certain aspects of this with a considerable amount of forethought and care, especially when others have completely overreached and ended up doxxing the subject, but unfortunately there may have been some over-corrections that make it seem like information was withheld from the final video, and that the intended accompanying light tone as a result occasionally borders on being perceived as potentially supportive of certain behavior at times.
But I do agree that what's done is done generally speaking, also there were many parts of the video that worked quite well. I just checked out some other videos you've made recently and they show the great potential that your work has, I do genuinely believe you're on the right track and wish you and your channel the best

I’m just imagining the living nightmare this will be for whatever crew has to dig it out, probably years from now, covered in mold, flooded with groundwater, decaying and dark… that’s some true 00’s classic creepy pasta material there.
True I thought some of the footage looked like it was from Ana abandoned building or haunted house it legit looked terrifying down there all that’s left is the horror occurrence aspect-
So, she's basically copying exactly what a guy in the UK (Colin Furze) is already well underway doing. He got planning permission to build an isolated underground bunker underneath his garden, and then started building tunnels to connect it to his shed, car garage and house so he could get to the bunker and shed "without having to walk outside in the rain". He applied for retroactive planning permission, which was initially strongly objected by the town council but after structural experts and geological experts were called in to check everything he got the planning application approved - provided the work gets inspected regularly and remains up to code.
Main difference is he actually did a TON of research on how to do it safely, how deep to do it, how to reinforce the structure as he went, he constantly checks to make sure it won't have flooding or damp issues and that it's actually above the groundwater level. He also makes sure he has adequate ventilation and a quick way out should anything go wrong .. and wears proper gear when welding. And he does it in stages and invites his neighbours over to check out the current progress and gets their input on the whole project.

As a welder its extremely dumb to weld inside when you dont have curtains around or air extraction. Welding gasses can be very toxic. Its illegal to weld without air extraction or a kind of respirator at a workplace if you are not outside

Just as feedback, while I think you could have potentially been a little harder on her and her actions, the video itself is so well made. Your editing is so fun and quick paced. The zoom ins on you when you're talking to the camera add such a good layer and overall the presentation is so professional. She has a very monotone voice and expressionless way of communicating.. She sounds like she's reading a script every time she talks and she's probably not but it's just her demeanor.. Also you need to get special licensing You can't just do that to your house You can't just make a storm shelter This special things that you need and you also I believe you need a license person to do it and it needs to pass inspection.. A lot of the work she's doing is more than likely illegal.. Even if she's learning to do it the right way
This lady has so much perseverance, will, desire to learn to in achieve her goal and determination to never give up while having half of the internet telling her to stop that if one day she woke up set up into becoming the president of USA she may just actually win it…just to be obligated to resign because someone will end up snitching that 95% of things she did to get to the oval office were actually illegal.
I still think it's amazing what she did, but perhaps she should have asked for a permit to do it first and more is she was documenting the process.
The permits are slow but at least you know it will legal.
Made me think about our neighbor that wanted to expand his pool my family and the other neighbor where ok with it, so he started his construction and was obligated to stop and pay a fine because he didn't ask for a permit. He actually was able to do it legally a year after.

She seems like a smart and capable women to do all that work herself but at the same time she was very reckless and she was not only putting herself in danger but her neighbours as well. There's a reason you need permits for this stuff and years of expertise and equipment which she clearly doesn't have. She should of probably started with smaller projects to get experience take a few courses on the side before attempting such a dangerous project.

While I am really impressed with the amount she is able to learn and understand, it’s really irresponsible for her to be doing this. You can’t just MINE around in a tunnel underneath someone’s house even if you think you know what you’re doing. If anything you thinking YOU should be able to do it is scary because it literally puts people in danger. Just because YOU say that your structural engineering is sound doesnt really mean a lot, you are digging under the foundations of peoples’ houses. Like wtf.
If she was doing it on like a plot of land she bought and owned it would be a different story. It’s not ok that she was doxxed, but the things she did put people in danger, esp first gen immigrants who don’t really have the power to speak up about it.

Kala is in the running for the most arrogant person I’ve ever heard of. It is rare for a sole actor to attempt something of this scale and insane potential for failure. Even serial killers seem to think more about the ramifications of their actions than this woman, because they at least have a sense of self-preservation. Kala is wayyy too calm and open about what she is doing and I have to wonder, if she is so apathetic about the risk to her own life, is she even capable of caring about others lives and her own neighbors potentially dying because of her?
