  • Van Life Families are a mess, and I'm here to for it. Let's dive into this weird, wacky world of RV, Camper Van, Trailer world in which parents give up their comfortable houses in the suburbs for a chance to travel the country full-time.

That's not abuse, but I guess in your world. If you want change, get codes that a bus can only have x number of passengers. Many apartments have this rule too. As far as abuse, try a kid being molested by his brother and locking me in a cage to show me that boys are stronger than girls. I guess it's true. He ended up in a special school. He is probably brainless by now coloring and singing happy songs.. It makes me laugh when I think back to my special classmates. I can only imagine. Corey Johnson. Watch out for the guy in the sky. Born for games, right? My only complaint is that my relative is not in school and one parent is a white-pride, neo-nazi. who has almost killed me several times and gotten me in danger that he refuses to believe. He's the calm crazy as a mask. Calling CPS can cause major issues like foster care. I have also seen them coach parents on how to take care of their kids. An aid had been raised in a foster home but still saw her mother growing up.

Selling your cozy house in the suburbs, quitting your stable job and living in an RV can be a totally valid life choice, *if you make it for yourself or mabye together with your partner*. But dragging kids into this? Wtf. The kids of these families did not make an educated life choice for themselves, their parents decided for them and dragged them along. Kids need a stable environment much more than some adults do and this is the opposite.
My parents actually have an RV and when I was a kid, I enjoyed it - for vacations! 3 weeks tops, usually less. It was fun and I liked our road trips, but after like two weeks I also felt very happy returning to our house and my room, with space and privacy and my friends and hobbies in town. The sheer thought of living like that full time as a kid is hell!

Things like this need to be taken on a case by case basis. Firstly, there are many families throughout the world that live in a single room/studio house. My personal opinion is that vanlife is fine for young children and can be fun. I do think older kids and teens should have a more stable home if possible. I live in a van by choice. I’m a single mom and I waited until my youngest went to college before doing this. I also had to work three jobs just to pay the rent on a one bedroom apartment. So I can see why some families may not have a choice. Having a “stable” job is not that easy anymore. I should mention my main job was a career profession and I could still not make rent with it………… that being said, a lot of the examples you are showing are different. 10 kids in one camper is absurd. Family van bloggers is a bit of a red flag. My concern with this video is you are promoting judging people with kids in a camper without knowing the specifics.

I won't use public restrooms and I want a seating area and a bed, but don't want to have to convert it every morning and night, so this is the perfect build for me. I would use different materials and maybe do a murphey bed instead of electric, but I love their bathroom. If you search concrete oasis, there are a bunch of videos. I am the youngest child of three raised by a single mother who moved us into a small home so that we could escape our abusive father. We had no furniture when our mother bought our home and for the first six months, we had to sleep on the floor. Now that I am an adult, I am proud of my mother for doing what she could on her own to make a safe home for us. When I see two parent, well to do families willingly subject their children to living in cramped spaces with no furniture not out of necessity but for clout, I feel disgusted.

    VENT. TRIGGER WARNING.
I was the daughter in a van family for 3 years (2018-2021) and overall it didn't seem too bad. My little brother (around 7-10 at the time) slept in a pullout in the living room/dining room/kitchen, and me and my older brother got a bunk room and my parents slept in a fullsized bedroom. However, my older brother r@ped and sa'd me constantly over that 3 year period under the guise that it was normal for boys to explore boundaries. I told my parents a couple months ago and they said they KNEW and that my older brother was simply curious and I was too young to get pregnant so there was nothing to worry about! They are having trouble grasping why exactly those were my least favorite years since we grew 'so close' as a family. I am now 15 and no longer talk to my older brother or my mother unless absolutely necessary. Even worse, my younger brother has told multiple people about his crush on me. I'm very concerned, but my parents still say it's normal for boys to have crushes and I should think nothing of it. He, 13 now, take photos of me while I sleep and purposefully stands behind me when I bend over to pick things up. I believe he's been influenced by the life in the RV. Additionally, while in the RV, none of us had any friends. Zero. We saw Maine, sure, but I missed critical points in my life so that I could hike in a forest and let my older brother touch me. I'm very bitter about the experience, sorry for the vent. Please do not force your kids into a van.

This is child abuse, and it’s right in front of our eyes. These kids all need to have their money accounted for (if they are featured, they earned their share), and then we need to make showing kids under 18 online without their consent illegal. These people are all so fake, and no child could be happy living like this. I have four siblings and if we had to live in a camper together (no matter how large) it would be chaos.
These families are treating their children like decorations and material for clout. It’s sickening to keep so many kids in a small space full time if the parents are able to afford a larger space, and to record their kids constantly.
If there is a family that can’t afford a bigger space and has to live in a camper/rv/van then that’s ok… as long as they don’t record every waking second of it.

Also had 2 minors always spending time in our home to add to it. There was no place to study, to relax, just to remove urself from the constant chaos. The only place I could was in the shower. My dad was living the van life when I was a kid. He picked a place for us to live and let me go to school during the year, but in the summers we lived in the van.
People think my life was great. I hated it. I just wanted to stay with my friends.
Days consisted of holding my pee because he never wanted to stop, and eating mostly fast food. Sometimes we would stop to take pictures and spend a couple minutes at a place.
At night I slept in the passenger seat leaned back as much as I could, or in a tent. We stayed at a lot of campgrounds that had showers run by quarters. Dad gave me 2 for a shower so I had to use the first one to get all wet while the water was still freezing cold, then soap everything up with the water off, and then rinse as best I could in the cold - tepid water from the second quarter.
Laundry was done in rest stop sinks in front of everyone, or in rivers or wherever we could. People really don't understand how bad the day to day life like that is. It's a small step above being homeless.

Balance needed. It’s fine for a holiday, but surely the fun comes from it being something you do ‘occasionally’, perhaps with the incentive of camp fires, late nights, games, music etc? And later in life, mum and dad can get a smaller van and live out their nomad fantasies while having privacy (!). A good nights sleep in a proper bed is very worthwhile for all, especially as a teenager. Not to mention a proper shower…

and it was always, ALWAYS divide as big room is living room/family room and turns to parents' bedroom at night, and the smaller room is for children (typically 2 of them). 90% of my friends lived like that. no parent ever go for "we have so little space here but I will make nice, full-sized bedroom for myself and just stock my children on the shelves, whatever" :D
