My wife and I do a lot of car camping in our model Y. I would estimate that in our 2.5 years of ownership, we've probably spent about a two months sleeping in it with camp mode. It's great for that use case, the ultimate road trip car! I was looking forward to the Cybertruck being an upgrade to my 02 Toyota tundra, which I used for some gardening and landscaping jobs, and my Model Y, but the lack of a midgate means that its essentially worse than the Model Y for car camping. I absolutely love everything else about the Cybertruck--the durability of the steel, the 4 wheel steering, the steer by wire, the fast adjusting air suspension--but the form factor of an R1S would actually be better for my use case at this time. I'm hoping that Tesla launches a Van or SUV on the Cybertruck platform soon, and that was one of the vehicles teased during the last stockholder meetings.

I totally agree about the need for midgate for camp mode in the bed. Then it would be perfect. Now I am thinking maybe I should get a Model Y instead.

Great to hear your usage of the model why we were considering one however difficult to view as there are very few viewing opportunities in New Zealand we instead purchased a BYD ATTO3 and use it as a camper car however find it very limiting what is the height when sitting where you would sleep in the rear of your model y?
we also carry tandem bicycles and recumbent cycles in The rear so hatch dimensions are important
      Thanks
Cheers from NZ A great place for car camping come try it out

I grew up camping in a VW bus. Have been waiting for an electric to come out with similar list of abilities but it looks like it’s just never going to happen. One reason is the driver placement. I think it maybe illegal to design a vehicle with the driver sitting 2 feet from the furthest most point of the front bumper. They made the ID buzz but moved the driver back a few feet reducing the interior space massively even though the vehicle itself is almost the exact same size. It Would have been more effective to just make it 6 feet longer. I think camper versions and additions of the CT might make it superb. There is huge space to manipulate. I doubt anything will be built on the same ‘frame’ as it’s just a bent molded kit truck of several shaped fitted sections. But maybe the same size.

I have never built a camper, so I say this with the knowledge that it might sound idiotic - what if the Cyberlandr expanded laterally instead of vertically to make use of the ground around it instead of the truck bed? 2) I believe that Cyberlandr is helping define how using electric trucks might have you change the tools that are prevalent with gas trucks. Cyberlandr, as far as I am concerned, showed how you can have a camper, but still make it through an LA drive thru. Want Cyberlandr to give TFL a chance to prove their product because they want to believe but having a hard time accepting.

I saw a Cybertruck turning onto 316 near Statham a few days ago. I've seen so many Cybertrucks on TH-cam that it didn't seem novel to me at first, but then I realized that i wasn't watching TH-cam. The vehicle is eye-catching, but it seems more like a rich man's toy than a utility vehicle.

Beast has vectored thrust rear wheels. The dual does not. Meaning each rear motor gets its own inverter. That feature to most would probably not mean much. Rally drivers, rock climbers, and performance drivers [on & off road] should find it very capable. Out of the box it has more variability than anything on the market. Making it the Swiss Army knife of trucks [did you say that before?]. Thanks for getting us an update on Cyberlandr! I have been thinking about this for a couple of weeks. Already on pins and needles.

Tow range appears to be the major problem. It shouldn’t be dismissed. The elegant solution is a portable battery extender that can be attached to the trailer. The trailer is where that extra battery weight should go. I saw a video where a trailer reduced the CyberTruck range by two-thirds. That’s too much.

Cybertruck towing is fine. Towing max load 12k long distance is not.

    • @andrasbiro3007
      @andrasbiro3007 8 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      It's only a problem if:
      - you are towing
      - a larger trailer
      - at a long distance
      - regularly
If just one of the four isn't true, range is not an issue. For example you can tow a large trailer long distance, someone did like a 2500 mile trip like that. It's just slow and inconvenient, as you have to stop to charge like every 50-100 miles, and often have to detach the trailer too. A few times a year it's acceptable, but if you do it every week, stick to diesel for now.
The range extender can solve this, and I guarantee there will be a bigger battery too, as the 4680 cells mature.

@@andrasbiro3007 If you bought it because you expected it to work as advertised, then it is a problem. It can be solved by how I outlined. It’s something that you expect to be solved by Tesla. Otherwise, it’s a pain to deal with repeated charging.

But the specs were known well before the first was sold. And it's well known that electric cars lose a ton of range when towing. If you don't know that's your problem. Don't buy such a new product without basic research.
Your solution is not practical in the real world. At least not yet. For starters, there are no such trailers, and Tesla won't go into trailer manufacturing overnight.

I ordered the Plaid Plus for the range, not the speed. It went away. I ordered the 3 motor CT for the range, not the performance. I want to go on back country trips where I estimate it would be 180-200 miles in each direction. That won't happen. Cyberlandr was integral to this and I ordered it in early days. Still want to go ahead with it, but the compromise is pretty extreme. I'm looking into rolled thin film PV that I can setup wherever I go and get some range back.

I find the 48v system and the steer by wire revolutionary. The fit, finish, no spare tire, limited tow range, limited payload, stainless steel with fingerprints, and the fact the 6' bed cannot accept a normal camper are reasons why I stick to diesel or gas. They are almost completely done with the entire reservation base and the take rate is less than 1%. If it could tow, I’d have paid my deposit 3 weeks ago. Despite the other issue, the founders edition is just too good a deal to pass up, as I would have been buying all the major items in it anyway. Not to rain on y’all’s parade; the cybertruck is a great SUV. It’s not a great or even a good truck. First up, dig a little deeper on your statistics. 11% of US households own an RV, 70% of which are towed. Over 1 million people live, full time, in RV’s. The cybertruck is useless for towing, completely, the range, the charging, the entire scope of it doesn’t work. The range is at best, 90 miles with a light (5000#) camper. This is way more than inconvenient, 90% of where I camp, I can’t get to with that short of range. Charging is just stupidly bad. It takes too long and the charge port placement could not be worse. The port is in a wheel well on a vehicle meant to go off-road, where anything can wreck it and leave you with a paperweight. How hard would it have been to put it on the front bumper? Dumb, dumb, dumb, even if you aren’t towing, it still is a crap placement. Then I have to spend 90-120 minutes charging because on minor highways, even if there were enough charging locations, they are too far apart for anything less than a full charge. It would 2-5 days out of my 1 week vacation to go anywhere in Texas. And the bed… it’s just pointless. May as well have made it a hatchback and put in carpet.
