Ilya Sutskever, famed AI engineer, former OpenAI employee, and a member of the board coup that tried to oust Sam Altman last year, has started his own company, Safe SuperIntelligence (SSI) Inc. They've got the funding and the vision, and that's both exciting and terrifying!

I used to spend much mental effort on thinking about how to build a human and humanity friendly super intelligence. But of course, like most people who were drawn to that pursuit, I was much too busy working to meet basic needs. Then I got old and stupid, so I leave all the hard thinking to younger, smarter heads. Glad to hear about current efforts, I am skeptical about your push for diverse players on the team. You need creative minds, who can bridge the gulf between the the lowest technological level and the “Big Picture”, but off-mission team members could be distracting more than helpful.
Engineers, programmers, mathematicians, and scientists can bring much diversity to the table, all on their own.

@@TheSpartan3669 A Unicorn could exist, but I've never seen one. I'll believe in a Unicorn when I see one. A smart human has an IQ around 180. The IQ calculation I looked up includes "mental age" and "chronological age", both are human-centric units, so how would you calculate a computer's IQ? No computer has achieved human intelligence, super intelligence is a flying Unicorn.

This team may possibly create a new AI and that will be wonderful.
However up to now, I have only seen generative AI which means it symply looks up information that someone else has done already, and applies that to your question. I do not perceive that as a novel solution. The only possible exception in generative AI may be artistic solutions like painting or music, however that is typically worthless in a technology world.
To achieve true AI, they will have to create a new approach or baseline that produces truly innovative answers instead of looking up existing information.

Sure. It’s true. A lot of optimization and such is done by computers for power plants. But.
In the event they are all broken. A generator is a pretty manual process. Here in Canada anyway.
It won’t be fun. That’s for sure. But. We can bypass stuff and go manual if the robots take over the internet or all computers or something…
I guess my thinking goes to a robot disconnecting a power distribution Center. But. Again. We can just manually reconnect it too. Again. Not fun. But also not terminator level stuff.

This is the North Star. Keep your eye on it. Everything converges on this:
      Revelation 13:15-17
And he had power to give life unto the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak, and cause that as many as would not worship the image of the beast should be killed. And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads: And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.

Keep in mind what Larry Niven wrote years ago.
The human (in Harry's Terran Bar) asked the advanced alien (Bob) how to build a super intelligent computer. The alien told him.
A pile of money and a pile of work later, the computer was built and it was super, but after a little while, it shut itself off.
Later, financially and spiritually ruined, the human went back to the bar. There were other aliens of the same species there, so he asked them what went wrong.
They laughed and said "Bob is a great joker, everyone knows that intelligent computers just shut themselves off".
    .
Humans have two primary strategies. There is the red of tooth and claw, blind brutal competition so common to nature and there is the cooperation humans needed to develop when we left the trees, facilitated by the rapid increase in brain size shown by the fossil record.
Nature provides that blind competition. Cooperation is not so simple or natural. Allow an intelligence to develop organically and you are likely to end up with that win-lose blind competition and humans will be in danger. Design it so it always looks for cooperative win-win alternative solutions and it will help us. ... Unrecorded comment by R. Gisgard and verified by R. Daniel Olivar.

There are many representations of AI in science fiction. There is the Polity of Neil Asher. The Culture of Iain M. Banks. There is Isaac Asimov, Jack Mcdevitt, so many others, mostly high tech and far in the future. But the interesting thing there is how the authors envisioned peoples and robots and AIs living and working together (or not); how they behaved and the societies and cultures they were part of. We can see and learn about ourselves though the imaginative fictions (myths, classic humanities like Dickens novels, or Little House on Prairie stories, romances, or sci-fi futures) written by so many people and perspectives. Taking that into account, the future may unfold pretty well for us humans.

I think you are wrong, although I get your intent. Hire an artist to make AI and what would they do? Hire a philosopher and what would they do? Yes you may need people like these as the AI grows but that is very much in the final stages. A philosopher may have input on how to iterate without killing a AI at each iteration which may not be a good way to introduce a new super power to the world, but hire 10 philosophers and you would have 10 recommendations on how to proceed.
If we get a slow learning AI like a baby becoming an adult, then having a diverse group of parents would make sense, but that also has dangers as well. Who wouldn't want to be the beloved parent of the world's next superpower. But the people that would want to be in that position the most, are the people we would want to be in that position the least. The chance that this is how the AI grows is very very small. So how can you be a good parent if you have a day or two to impart all your morals.

I have read about some scientific papers that point out training ever larger AI models, may simply run out of data to train on. As in the internet does not have enough written language - I don't think they cover images though, in these papers. Also, the availability of sufficient electricity could be a limiting factor, as Elon has suggested.

@@GrigoriZhukov Agreed. Humanoid robots are really the next step and are needed to get to AGI/SSI. That or TikTok. 😁Since this new organization seems to have the original values of OpenAI (now ClosedAI), maybe Tesla/Elon can provide them a few Optimus bots.

    • @WarrenLacefield
      @WarrenLacefield 8 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

@@GrigoriZhukov Actually, I very much agree with the thought of "growing" an individual AI in a fashion similar to a talented (maybe genius-level) child. Experience, maturity, feelings of safety, respectability, and satisfaction (and one might say consciousness and an internal "conscience" ) come through awareness of "presence" ("I am, I said") and the senses. Growth also stems from goals. The Internet is simply a source of information - writings and workings (knowledge, history, art, etc.), process visualizations (e.g., "skills"), etc. But the real "data source" for pragmatics comes from and through time and environmental interactions, mediated by whatever sensorium is available. AI's might very well need to be and feel to be contributing members to families (which certainly should include humans.)

You are the only one I’m aware of to continuously point out the importance of involving artist, philosophers, in short intelligent people not focused on technology only. Technological thinking comes from the left hemisphere of our brain and we need a balance between right and left in order to live the whole spectrum of life. In the moment humanity is utterly lopsided. I’m wondering why you mention this absolutely important point only at the very end of the video. It’s the key and should be coming much earlier imo.
