A Calif. Zephyr in Ft. Morgan with private car on 30JUNE2024

- This California Zephyr #5 arrived in Fort Morgan at 0553 MDT (8 Min. late). Powered by P42s #72 & #171, the 9-car train stopped with car 7 to the station ramp for passenger service to 1 new fare. Meanwhile I was renewing a friendship with private rail car "Frank Thompson". It is a PULLMAN parlor/lounge built for the Pennsylvania Railroad in 1949. The interior has been redone but still retains the charm of the years it worked for the Pennsylvania. It was last here on Sept. 9th of 2021. That video is in the archives.
With the station work safely completed, the high ball was given and on a clear signal the Zephyr rolled west toward Denver's Union Station as its next stop.

Union Pacific is rolling the "Big Boy" west this morning from Cheyenne. It can best be seen from the V/R Rail cams at Laramie, WY. as it makes a lube stop there later this morning.

And, hellooo Frank! Aren't you good looking! It makes me happy to see these beautiful cars kept in great shape and being used! That car is almost 75 years old!
We got up early this morning and headed to a Great niece's bridal shower in Peoria. Of course we have to go over THE tracks on 74. Coming back, I said to my daughter, the Zephyr comes through Galesburg right about this time, maybe we'll catch a glimpse of it! I even tried pulling up the railcam, in case. Just as we went over the tracks, there was a freight pulled over, and there she was, just going under the overpass we were on! ❤ Made my day!!!

I am not too happy with the Virtual Railfan network this evening. One of the cameras at Laramie went down while trained in the 4014 being serviced at the depot. Later both were inoperative. The cameras at Galesburg are becoming unwatchable with the pixelation and picture jump at just over 1 second intervals. That is happening at a lot of their camera sites.
Ok. I'm off the soap box. I may have to unsubscribe from them and move elsewhere.
Anyway, a BLT sounds delicious for a Sunday evening meal. We aren't too far from the sweet corn harvest here. Should see some in a couple of markets tomorrow. I would like to chow down on a roasting ear but my diet won't allow that. Corn is a no-no for me.

I don't think there will be any live coverage at Cheyenne, but the Virtual Railfan cameras are up and running at the Laramie Depot. I know of several videographers who will be covering the Wyoming part of the journey. They all post to TH-cam and should have them up later. Beyond Laramie, I am unaware of any live cams until the train reaches Colfax, CA.
I also know of several TH-camrs that will cover the 4014 extensively at Roseville before it returns to Cheyenne.

Morning Mike. I saw that car at the station siding in Winslow, AZ, back in 07. Got a couple of shots of it on a disc around the desk somewhere. I heard a dog talking to something, as well as the chorus in the distant background. I like the different perspective of the station, today. #5's quick pause and go didn't give you much time to view the Pennsy car, did it. Ah, well. Such is life. I didn't have time to swing the cam toward the windows to show the flowers, desk lamp and such in the after part of the car. Oh well. That was two cars that have been missing out here for a while.
I honestly didn't pay attention to the dog this morning. Kinda zeroed in on the train. Most of the songbirds surrounded my house and woke me at 0130 this morning as they started the chorus. UGH!

I did purposefully set up near the east end of the parking area and was rewarded with the "Frank Thompson" almost directly in front of me. It was a treat to see the car again.

@@MikeJensen-jt9yr Good afternoon Mike I am the retired caretaker of the Amtrak station in Royal Oak Mi, I really enjoy your videos next time I come thru Ft. Morgan 0n #5 I will be sure and say hello . Iam not sure of the owner of this private coach is but when not being used it is stored in the CN yard in Pontiac MI, they do use it several times a year on short hauls between pontiac mi and chicago.

It has been almost 3 years since it the "Frank Thompson" has graced the BNSF rails tagging along with the Zephyr. I did watch this train as it went west on the western slope of Colorado. Nice to see it getting some mileage again.

Good morning; Jim; I thank you for stopping by as well as the comments. I threw almost everyone a curveball today by setting up near the east end of the platform directly in front of my pickup. The crew did well by mw stopping the consist right where I was at with the PV. It was occupied and the car staff was awake. I did like the up-to-date drumhead on the back.
I don't think the dog had anything to do with the lack of songbirds. They are all around my house and were chirping away from about 0130 on. LOL!

Good afternoon, John; Thank you for tuning in as well as the comment. Yep. I watch these trains as they pass thru Galesburg in the afternoon. I also watch them cross the bridge at Burlington, Iowa and follow their progression on the AMTRAK train tracker map. It is the only way I can stay up with them.
The place I set up at is where I should have been for the "Bella Vista" earlier in the week. LOL!
