thanks for riding our trains here in America. Amtrak has its problems, its equipment may be old and it's no high-speed rail, but I think it's always a pleasant and enjoyable way to travel and we're lucky we have it.
@@neurofiedyamato8763 I really do too. I love Amtrak even for its problems. It's the best way to travel in our country. The new funding will take a bit to be realized with new trains, new infrastructure, and new routes, but by the 2030's it will look like a whole new system.
What a wonderful video. I didn't think I would like a video with subtitles but you did a magnificent job. I was worried that coming from a country with superb trains you would find many faults with Amtrak; we hear about that all the time. Instead, your very positive came through. I am inspired to consider such a journey myself. Thank you
As soon as I saw the Sears Tower from your view window, I knew you arrived in my childhood home Chicago. Sorry that you got the old 1970s sleeper room, Amtrak really should have renovated those years ago. Glad you liked the scenery of the western states and your meals.❤️🙏
During 34 years I travelled around the world as a businessman for important international company. I left everything to leave at this moment in my small farm enjoying the nature, in South of Brazil. But when I see your video, I can remembering a lot of places I could put my foot. Very nice.
Those little half rooms are less expensive and the beds fold down in a different direction, so your sleep is better because you are moving with the flow of the train motion; whereas in the big sleeper rooms, you are being jostled uncomfortably in an opposite direction of the train motion, Better to book two of the smaller rooms on oppositie sides of the aisle (if you are travelling w/ someone) and then you have the option of viewing the best scenery from either side of the train, w/out having to compete w/ the standees' in the aisle. No shower in the smaller rooms, but not an issue because the small shower in the sleeper car is inconvenient and not used because everyone uses the larger shower rooms down the hall, anyway.
While you were having breakfast, or at least about 30 minutes before arriving in Reno, if you had looked out to the left, you might have seen me waving to your train, as it goes right past my house in Fernley, Nevada. The CZ is a wonderful trip, and I'm glad that you got to experience it.
I enjoyed the video. Just a hint about the Viewliner bedroom, though you probably already learned this. First, the single seat next to the bathroom folds up and stows against the corner leaving plenty of room to use the shower and bath. The en-suite shower is why your bedroom costs so much more, I'm surprised you didn't try it. It's much more comfortable than the shared shower. Regarding the "beatbox door" -- that's a door that opens to allow two adjoining bedrooms to be joined for families. You have some cardboard safety flyers in the pocket next to the table. There are one or two "sweet spots" in the door where you can jam the cardboard between the door and its frame. That will stop the annoying rattle. I do this while the train is rolling, so that I can find just the right spot. At 5:11 in your video, you can see where a prior traveler made an attempt. Once you find the right spot for the cardboard, the rattling will stop. I know this shouldn't happen, but it does. FWIW, the same happens in the new Viewliner II bedrooms as well. I've booked a trip on the Zephyr next January, out to Emeryville and back the next day. I take an Amtrak vacation each year, and next January I'll be doing a round-trip between Boston and Emeryville. I'll be on the Lakeshore from Boston to Chicago, then the Zephyr, then making the same trip back. I really enjoy riding in the observation car and eating in the diner. I enjoy making new friends while watching the scenery slide by.
I rode train from New Orleans to San Francisco 1974. Train hasn't changed, I'm sure they changed the seats, beds but everything is the same. Food is done different, we had a dinner car with cloth napkins, tablecloth. We had the menu to choose which meal. Also had a lil snack store downstairs... Going thru Texas was the most fun, people racing the train when road was along side the train tracks.
My pleasure Kuga's Travel. Thank you for taking us along for the ride across America with you. I enjoyed it as much as you did. Cheers from Australia 🇦🇺 👍🏽
In "days of old" (pre-Amtrak) you could reserve a sleeper car compartment from NYC's Grand Central Station (via Chicago) all the way to San Francisco. The NYC to Chicago's LaSalle Street Station portion would be via the New York Central's "Lake Shore Limited", then your train car would be shuttled over to Chicago's Union Station. Then continue on to San Francisco.
Uh, Oakland, actually. Up until some time in the 1950s, the train would terminate at a ferry boat pier for a water crossing to San Francisco. After ferry service was discontinued, it was (and continues to be) connecting busses across the Bay.
@@christopherstephans3383 A "Coast to Coast" NYC - Los Angeles sleeper thru-car ticket could also be obtained during the same time period (pre-Amtrak). Combining New York Central & then AT&SF's "Super Chief" for the west of Chicago portion.

What a great trip, from East Coast to West Coast by Amtrak. Yeah, Lake Shore Limited is the fastest way by train from New York to Chicago via Upstate New York, but if you want more scenic, take the Cardinal. When I was about 12 years old I rode the train from Detroit Michigan, to Chicago and then into Los Angeles California. On the same Amtrak Trains. This was back in the late 1960s...which goes to show how old our trains are in the U.S. We were in economy seating which worked out fine.

8:40 I live near Albany NY. It's an honor to know you stopped at my local train station! I have a car but I don't like driving to and within New York City, so when I want to go there I take an Amtrak train from this very station down to Moynihan Train Hall.
I do not apologize. If we had consumer support for trains, we would have better trains. Others must understand that Americans drive cars. That is economics.
Hi...You stayed one night in Chicago so the trip by train is. only 4 days. And your choice of spending a lot of money for a bedroom was unfortunate. You get a bit more room and an in-room shower but you didn't need the room and you didn't even use your in room shower. By the way, you can use a shower in Amtrak's Metropolitan Lounge if you want during the 5 hour layover. I have taken ther California Zephyr many times...a real treat for Americans too. Reminds Americans of what a beautiful and magnificent country we have...worth compromising on our differences to preserve it. I'm impressed that this video got 1.8 million views in only 2 months. Some of the best TH-camrs of the US only get a fraction of that number. Congratulations.

Amtrack gets an unfair rap ! They are just different to Japanese trains . Really enjoyed my trips in the US ! If you want a boring rip off try the Gahn or Indian Pacific in Oz . Have traveled on all three .
Thank you to share your journey. I wish I would travel in this peaceful way. Joying every moment.
On the one hand I am always happy for a new video from you. On the other hand I am mortified you are riding our barely there rail system.

I live near Albany NY. It's an honor to know you stopped at my local train station!
I have a car but I don't like driving to and within New York City, so when I want to go there I take an Amtrak train from this very station down to Moynihan Train Hall.
Second train looked so much comfier. Less noisy, too!
Amazing video, thank you!
Thank you for taking us a long. I love your sense of humour. God bless you.
Thanks!
Thank you!🤝
Kuga, I apologize that we do not have a nice train system in America. Amtrak is embarrassing.
I do not apologize. If we had consumer support for trains, we would have better trains. Others must understand that Americans drive cars. That is economics.
Congratulations Kuga, for that breathtakingly beautiful 5 day train journey across the US
Yeah I was afraid to see the price. :( Well at least you won't have to do it again LOL
Thanks for sharing...this Amtrack cross country trip is in my bucket list 😅
You slept through the most beautiful countryside! Nice trip.
Kuga, is this a re-mix ? I feel like I have seen most of it before. Still fun though, thanks !
Terima kasih Kuga for the great video 👍
Greetings from Indonesia 🇲🇨
