Thank you for this video. After I damaged the fake screw trying to remove it I was about to damage the sleeve and found your video and easily popped it off and was then able to replace the cartridge.

Totally found this video after damaging the fake screw too. Lol

I had exactly the same issue (same model Kohler faucet); my hot water side was clogged. Your excellent video gave me an idea. I disconnected the hot water hose from the source, hooked up a wet-vac to the end of the hose (airtight using a combination of PVC step-down piping and duct tape), set the faucet 's hot-water lever to open and turned on the wet-VAC. Out came a piece of rubber from the hose. Problem fixed--all without having to disassemble the faucet from the countertop or disassemble the valve as shown in the video. I think Kohler needs to inspect their quality assurance of the hose manufacturing (probably made in china). I would not have thought of using this method had I not seen your video. Thanks again.

Thanks for the excellent video. For anyone who can't clear the blockage with compressed air (me!) I have a solution, but not everyone with have the piece needed. Take a piece of aluminum TIG filler rod, chuck it in a drill and use it like 'Roto-Rooter'. First, push the rod in the side that works, (Hot or Cold) and a 36" rod almost disappears. Then, do the same thing with the block side. You can find the place and if you can't force it out, your can 'drill' it with the welding wire.

A life saver. I should have watched your video before trying to remove that decorative screw! My line was clogged as well with a chunk of rubber from the hot intake hose.

I know it's been two years since this was posted but I had to comment as this video saved me a lot of time. I have this faucet and have been using it for about 6 months and the faucet handle was getting lose/wobbly. At first, I too tried to unscrew the handle and started to scratch it up and it wouldn't turn. Rather than break something, I decided it was time to go to my favorite place...TH-cam...and look for a video. Sure enough, this one popped up when I searched for my faucet. Wow. This was super helpful. While I didn't have to get as far into the faucet as the video, it showed me right at the beginning that the "screw" is fake and only a "button" covering the real screw. Who would have thought?
Anyway, thanks so much for this video. Was a great help and I finally tightened my faucet handle without breaking anything in the process, which is always a good thing! LOL

Thanks for posting. I ran into the same issue after turning off the water to work on my dishwasher. I realized low pressure from the faucet afterwards. I pulled everything and checked(for hours) the mixing valve was my first thought but it was intact. I eventually I figured that the hose quick connection had pieces of rubber inside especially the two check valves. I flushed the line that seems to clear it for now but I know now that the culprit is the hot water valve from the wall. A quick tip for more flow remove the small o ring from the restrictor. Cheers.

Thanks for explaining how to take this apart. I was screwed by the non-screw cover. With your video, I was able to figure out my hook-up line was clogged.

You are the real hero of TH-cam. I spent all day flushing and troubleshooting my tankless hot water heater before I realized this was my issue

Thank you! This was exactly the problem I had too…from trying to unscrew the non screw to needing to blow out the line with the air compressor!!!

I want to thank you for posting this video. I was so pissed at Kohler, when I should have been mad at the failing valve on the wall. I'm replacing the valves on the wall with 1/4 turn ball valve style and clearing the internal plug inside the faucet. It should be much easier thanks to your help. Also- 1 1/16 = 26.99 mm for people who do not have that big of sockets in metric.

We had this faucet model 5 years with no problems whatsoever. Then recently the water flow diminished to just a trickle. We contacted customer support and they sent us a new valve. This didn't fix the problem, and we verified the supply lines were not blocked. So we contacted Kohler again and they sent us a new unit. Wow, that's awesome support. We still don't know what the problem with the old unit was, but we're very happy with the new one!

So helpful! Just wish I found the video before I started trying to unscrew that decorative screw on the faucet handle 😂 but my hot water is flowing perfectly now, thank you so much! By the way, my debris was coming from the hot water valve below the sink, which I replaced the stem on.

Thanks for this video. Kohler sent me this replacement part and no instructions on how to install.

Thanks for the video. Saved a lot of pain. I used a 1 1/8" deep socket to remove valve nut. Valve replacement was smooth. Body and hose had some debris. Cleaned hose with a coat hangar. With hose removed, I put a big cup over the body and just let the water run for about 30 seconds. Very messy, but effective. Faucet works .

I tried unscrewing that decorative cover too and was unsuccessful. Good job in figuring out that it was just a pop out cover.

Thanks for the video. I dissembled per your instructions, blew out the lines with my air compressor, problem still existed. I ordered the replacement cartridge, Kohler K-1198201 BTW, the correct size socket is 1-3/32". I had to look for a shower valve socket.

    • @ryankemp3602
      @ryankemp3602  2 ปีที่แล้ว

1-3/32” = 27.78mm. While both may get the nut off, I’d rather err on the socket that’s the smallest size (27mm)

Please pin my comment, I have the same sink. It’s not the valve!!
    Easy easy fix!
After 3 tries I figured it out. Keep your sink installed no need to take it apart at all. Unhook your hot water line (after shutting off water obviously) then put the hose into a bucket and turn the sink handle to the middle position and allow water to run, you will start seeing water come out through the faucet as normal, put your thumb over the sink faucet closing off the water and increasing back pressure that will come out of the hot water line and into the bucket, this pressure is enough to force all those black pieces of plastic out. Do this for a minute or so. Hook it back up and enjoy your hot water. BOOM

      This comment saved me.
Just bought one of these today and had no hot water coming out. Blew out the hot water line and saw the black gunk come out. Hooked it back up and it worked perfectly.
      A huge thank you.

Same thing happened to me this week. Installed the Soux about a month or two ago. Last night the hot water just went to almost nothing. Tired blowing through it with my mouth and it was like it was almost fully closed.
I did your method with the compressor. At 60 psi, still clogged. Turned it up to 90 and a big piece of black hard rubber flies out. :/. I hope long term it’s ok…

  • @Rhaspun

I've seen other videos on different models of faucets where it was black rubber things clogging up a faucet. I wonder where the plastic bits came from in your faucet.

I had debris lodged in the body of the faucet. I used these instructions to remove the handle and the valve and the attached a bicycle tire pump to the nozzle where the faucet head attaches and was able to blow out the debris. As annoying as this problem was, in Kohler's defense, they were willing to ship me out a whole new faucet.

I just had one installed as part of a kitchen
Remodel . I am not going to do that when I spent $350 on a faucet. A replacement plus plumbers cost is what I want from Kohler !!!!’n

This was so helpful BUT I went to hardware store to buy a 27mm socket wrench and it’s too small!! 😩
I guess you need a large wrench size for that size socket thingy.

Hmm not sure this is my issue. My pull out hose is leaking but there's no hole in the hose where the hose comes right out of the faucet base where the decorative spring starts

  • @scrumpyb5859

Any idea what the source of the plastic was that caused the clog?

    • @bkwil6078
      @bkwil6078 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

It's the rubber gasket inside the shut-off valves... When you replace them get the quarter turn valves instead.

Is the handle meant to just come off at any time? I bought this and the handle comes off every time I turn it. Nothing is hold it in.

Unfortunately I bought one of these before reading reviews... does anyone else's water flow sputter everywhere out of the sprayhead?? I'm on my 2nd one, same issue . Waiting for response from Kohler currently very frustrated

Haha we all had the fake screw looking pop off cover .... go figure that one other than they sell you a new one after you've boggered up the fake plastic looking screw... still working on why my handle is leaking at the bottom..... the sage continues... now off the Higginbothum Brothers hdw for a 27 mm deep socket which of course I did not have!!!
