How to fix low pressure in Kohler Simplice faucet

  • The Kohler Simplice spray head has a button that temporarily stops flow when it is pressed. Sometimes this button gets stuck. In this video I show you how to manually pull it out. The specific model in this video is 596-vs-c8: amzn.to/2nIq6fM. If this fix doesn't work for you, the spray head can be purchased separately: amzn.to/2p0j9Xq.

THANK YOU!!!! Thank you so much for showing how to take apart and manipulate the faucet. I'm a single mom of 3 kids with special needs and I work 2 jobs trying to stretch thoses paychecks to cover food and medical. I can't afford repair people or new items when things break. I was able to get the button off & pull the pin out and BOOM.....water pressure! Thank you so much!! You are amazing!!!

Thank you so much for this video of a simple fix for our kitchen faucet. We purchased a replacement faucet, but eventually ran into the same problem with low water pressure. Now we know how to fix the problem and don't need to purchase another replacement faucet. Removing the round button and pulling the metal pin out just a bit with a pair of needle nose pliers did the trick.

Our first faucet head was replaced for free by Kohler. I am glad I saved it. Now I know how to fix it for a backup. Our replacement faucet head from Kohler had reduced flow after a few years. It was the stuck valve stud under the round black button. Fixed that too. I shot a little dry lube in around the "sticky" stud on the off chance it might help, but the fix in any case is swift and easy. Thanks.

If I could also offer up something that helped me with this exact Kohler unit. About a week ago, I had a very expensive plumber put one of these faucets in (didn't like the old unit anyway). Within a couple of days, I noticed the water pressure starting to weaken. I thought, uh oh, here we go again. After watching this video, I checked the button for function and mine was fine. Since I had the head off the faucet, I looked at both ends to see if I could find a flow restrictor and, BOOM, there is a very small white restrictor on the hose end of the head. I took a pair of needle nose pliers and it easily came out. I immediately discovered a bunch of calcium that, within a few days, had a already accumulated! I was amazed. I just pulled the restrictor out and put the o-ring back in and put the head back on the hose. WOW, immediate water pressure. I live in the Pacific Northwest and, like many other areas of the country, have a big hard water problem. I understand the reason for flow restriction but, when you live in an area with historically hard water, it leads to premature and unexpected expense for many! Hope this helps.

p.s. the spray face on mine did not have flat sides to grip. I tried vice grips but that did not work and I did not want to break the plastic so I didn't press the issue.

Excellent! I couldn't get the front part off and gouged it a bit with my crescent wrench. It turned out it was the little button (1:12) on mine after all. BTW the spray setting was all screwed up but I reformed the little holes with a toothpick and now everything is working great. I was putting up with the "very" low flow for probably 2 years. I'm so glad to have full pressure I wish I hadn't waited so long.

Thank you so much! I’ve been so frustrated with the combination of regular and sprayer state that our faucet has been in for months! Im really embarrassed to say that I was going to buy a replacement head or an entirely new faucet. I’m in the trades and like to think that most issues, no matter the circumstances, should be approached with the “KISS” method. I totally forgot that in my frustration with this faucet. After months of cleaning screens and checking water pressure at other sources, the problem was fixed 45 seconds after watching your video. You probably don’t realize it, but, you have saved homeowners thousands of dollars by posting this video. Thank you again!

Look at all of the people that were helped by this simple but not so obvious fix, including myself. I am amazed at how common this specific issue is. There should have been some remediation by Kohler to address this. It would be different if it were a one off situation. For as many people who found this fix on TH-cam, I'm sure there were many more who spent significant money on replacement or a plumber.

    • @jamesrichter5341
      @jamesrichter5341 3 ปีที่แล้ว

This fix was helpful for about 6 months but now sticking again. I'm assuming it's related to mineral deposits. I soaked the sprayer head in vinegar with no benefit, then soaked in Iron Out solution again with no improvement. I attempted 3 in one oil and liquid graphite but no improvement. Finally I looked the problem up on Kohler's web site and saw that it is a very common problem especially with the model I have which is Bellera, but maybe a common problem with others too, not certain. Anyway, if you call their customer service they will replace the spray head for free.

Yep - worked for me, too. I have the K-560 model and the same button and issue. On a separate problem on that spray head, have you by chance tried replacing the flow regulator insert with a higher gpm insert? (On your K-596 model, the 2.2gpm insert is part no. K-1167290; on my K-560 model, the 2.2gpm insert is the same.) It seems you would poke at and remove the screen from the threaded end of the sprayhead and then remove the insert. I just haven’t tried it yet. Pay attention to which end of the insert is in view before removal so you put the new one in correctly. Thanks.

Another quick tip, to remove the button that stops the water flow just use some soft jaw pliers, or if you don't have those some regular pliers and put some tape over the plastic to prevent it from being marred, you only need light force when squeezing the pliers, if your gentle you won't damage anything, and it's much easier, you're gonna want the pliers anyway because you'll need them to pull on the stem for that button once it's removed.

Feel like this faucet fails way too often. That little circle button is silly. Gonna put an O-Ring in there or something to prevent it being pushed, so this doesn't happen anymore. Thanks for the video!

wow, THANK YOU! I moved into my house about 6 months ago and have had ongoing trouble getting the water to run hot in the kitchen sink. I finally realized the pressure/flow through the faucet maybe was too low to trigger the tankless water heater to turn on. THIS FIXED IT!!!

Thanks so much, very helpful. How do you fix the issue of the sprayer function not working? (on the same model) Only the straight flow is working.

Not sure. Could be a similar issue. Does the water flow change at all when you push the sprayer button or does it just turn off?

Fantastic! Thanks so much! This is exactly what was going on suddenly with my faucet after house guests "helped" with the dishes 😊 I think they were trying to turn on the spray and pushed really hard? Thanks so much!

Glad it helped. Since I made this video it has happened a few more times... you might want to consider keeping a pair of needle nose pliers by the faucet.

Thank you for the help! My dummy boyfriend messed up my aunt’s faucet while she was out of town and I was able to fix it because of this video. :)

To be fair... I consider this a manufacturer's defect. Your boyfriend probably had a reasonable expectation that using a feature on the faucet wouldn't permanently degrade its performance.
