  • This is a teardown inspaction of an Acura Transmission.
    I shot this video very late at night, so please forgive me for the lack of focus because my tools were acting against me...but, after ovrcommong the frustration, I think I managed to give you as accurate information as I could. I DO Recall that I kept saying 4th gear on the 3rd gear that is smoked on this unit. 3RD gear was SMOKED! The filter was restricted. As you saw as wel, the internal small filters in the valve body were also restricted. These restrictions will give you FALSE trouble codes...if you get any...since these issues don't give you any codes until it is too late! THIS IS NORMAL ON HONDA'S...Sorry but is real....

    Just passed my automatic transmission class @UTI. Cool to see a vid on a teardown in TH-cam. The Honda tranny is a lot more complicated than the 41TE Chrysler tranny I learned on. Great video sir

    Excellent video Hiram!! Thanks for taking the time to post this. I like your "unedited" videos. Nothing like keeping it real buddy. Always good stuff with your videos. By the way, I like the music in your other videos better: You know the motley crue, ac/dc, and other good stuff in the background. This music kept me in suspense and on the edge of my seat, but like the other background music better...

    I'm soo impressed that you know where everything goes, that's a massive amount of small parts to remember. Where did you learn how to work on transmissions? I would like to try this but I admit it's a little overwhelming. I've done everything to an engine there is to do, but never touched a transmission. I just subscribed I'll be watching all your videos thanks brother.

    Hiram, that power steering unit is called the "power assist assembly", specifically it's designed to stiffen up the steering at higher speeds so it's harder to turn to make steering more safe at higher speeds.

    In regards to you editing your videos. Please don't. A trans rebuild is not the time to skip details however small. These are great videos. I have watched the Baxa rebuild (2:18 long) almost 3 times to make sure I don't miss anything. As a new subscriber your videos gave us the confidence, that we could do this if we took our time and looked for details. Thanks for sharing.

    Great video. Another case that could be made for putting up the videos up raw instead of editing them is that us, the viewer, could have questions about the disassembling/reassembling of whatever transmission you happen to be filming that could possibly be answered in a part that most people would rather see cut out.

    Hiram, fantastic video and thank-you for sharing your wisdom with us! You're a true master. I've been lucky with my 2002 Acura TL-s, which has 221,000 miles on the transmission now. I'm experiencing slipping when slowing down to a stop from 3rd gear to 1st gear. When I get to a complete stop, shifting to neutral and back to Drive helps. No codes are shown on the OBD scanner. Fluid is clean with no friction material on the solenoid screens. What would be your suggestion to check next? A/B solenoids?

  • @Gen3Benz
    @Gen3Benz 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Great video.
    I have a 2001 acura TL, the transmission 3rd gear let loose one day. I can only assume the pickup got plugged with clutch material because when I went to drive it to my shop it stopped moving altogether.
    So I bought a used trans from a "JDM" place. This place is shady as hell....
    My trans is a B7WA, I told the guy that and he told me that any of the 5spds would work. I was skeptical. So I brought a MFYA(from an odyssey) to the shop. Pulled my trans and compared.
    My trans looks to have an auxiliary power steering pump driven off a gear on the differential. The MFYA just has a plug, when you pull the plug there is no plastic drive gear. So I drove the trans back down to their warehouse and they told me it will work fine without it and to use a hose to bypass the pump. Even when I asked for a refund they refused. So I had to put the trans in or be out what I paid for it.
    Installed that trans and it seems to shift fine and no check engine light.
    Only concern I have is what seems to be a two step 3-4 shift. Like it drops the power to shift to 4th gear, but its not flaring. Any ideas?

    • @Gen3Benz
      @Gen3Benz 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think I know whats wrong. Like you said, the gear ratios are different. Computer controls shift points and is not expecting a different gear ratio. Either way, car is sold and I wont have to deal with it.

    • @oPiggySue
      @oPiggySue 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Actually if you look on the Acura forum website there's a standard swap to an 06 5 speed that has an entire walkthrough including that bypass loop on the power steering. There's a few components to be swapped over to the new tranny so I suspect that's what went wrong with yours, it was a newer or different signal than expected.
      The double shift could also be the torque converter locking in, on the VW Passat it's on the 1-2 shift. Either way, glad it worked out for you!

    • @Gen3Benz
      @Gen3Benz 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Piggy Sue Did not know about an 06 swap, interesting...Good to know for the future, but I doubt I buy another Acura X-D.

When you shift into any gear the parking pawl is staying engaged... I installed the return spring correctly but it will not come out of park. The selector moves and does come out of park and in neutral the car wont roll as if its still stuck in the locked position. In drive gears it seems like you are power braking it. any ideas?

    Hiram I love your videos, I know the 4l80e like the back of my hand now thanks. Quick question, I’m having a problem with an automatic transmission on a 2005 Acura TSX. Car shifts perfect, fluid is a little brown but not bad at all. In park and in neutral the tranny makes a whining noise like a bearing or something, is it deficult to replace those bearings myself. I can’t find any video on this transmission, please help thanks

    I am thinking about rebuilding a p36a transmission from an 08 odyssey, would you happen to know where I could get some info on rebuilding that particular transmission?, (a video half as good as yours would be great!)

    Can anyone comment if this video is applicable to the Honda BAXA/MAXA transmission? or the M6HA for Honda Prelude? are they all the same with different size gears?

    Are the checkball locations the same for a 02 rsx automatic transmission? I believe it is a MRMA. I cant find any info online after hours of searching. Any info helps or maybe if you can point me in the right direction to finding this info.Thank you
