Excellent how to, thank you. I am doing the same gear swap as you but was worried about how hard the synchro swap would be. I’m now confident I can change them all. Thank you 🙏
They’re pretty straight forward but do not flip over any of the slider hubs by accident. I can tell a few in the comments didnt hear me and probably junked a tranny after installing it and it didn’t work. 😣
I thought u lived in and around area i just bought a house in which is Leesburg/haines creek area still learning my way around and recognized a area in a video you did not gonna say which one, but much respect to you for representing the Bseries as all my friends have tossed it in favor of kseries, however have been wondering rater the pain staken task of finding a legit b16 trans and the outrageous price along with them, is to swap final drive while leaving everything else as i have a 4door gsr and 16" wheels boy is there a difference between 2dr gsr and 4 door , 4 door feels like im pulling a trailer behind me with the 2 extra doors being pulled along, or swapping first gear for a lower ratio giving more punch from the rest of the gearing? Cant decide and know since seeing this one of those ideas are no longer possible, like the vids bro.
Very informative, thank you! I drag race my 95 GSR. It became impossible to shift (any gear) on drag strip (high RPM). But on a street it shifts fine (low RPM). It won't grind, it just wont go into next gear until the RPMs drop below 5K. Any idea what may cause it? I just pulled my tranny out...
Yo this is awesome you're really good at working while explaining. No beating around the bush just working and talking. I'll be pulling an LS from a junkyard but I want a shorter 3rd and 4th, if I find some other b series gears do I only need the actual gears?
You’ll need both the matching main and countershaft gears to interchange ratios. Synchros and bearings are the same. I haven’t come across any issues swapping LS gears in b16 transmissions So Im sure you could put b16 ratios in LS gearboxes
Thanks… I have probably done 50 D and B series manual rebuilds back when I worked for the honda dealer…. The carbon synchro’s are a must in a performance rebuild. The trans I did here is a b16(short ratio) 1st-4th with an LS 5th gear set for lower highway rpm
It was bound to happen, I have seen some aftermarket parts but its been awhile since I have done any B series trans rebuilds for anyone but close friends that don’t flat out abuse them hard enough to bend shift forks
@@MRROCKAPE Just tell the B guys to buy up what's still avaliable. Every month something else comes up discontinued. Great video you made my guy. It really helped me out a lot.
What's the reason my transmission goes into gears, but when it's supposed to be in neutral, it's still in gear? Shift linkage mechanism? Shift change holder? I need help, B series LS Transmission.
@@MRROCKAPE thank you. I'll be working on j1 (cable b16) Trans and I've been watching your videos repeatedly. Very well done with all the info in the world.
Id go to synchrotech and double check me but Im 99% sure ls and b16 are the same as far as the synchro are concerned. Buy the carbo ones dont cheap out on the brass ones. I believe the itr trans is different
As far as I know all B series trans parts are interchangeable though I have only done the ls 5th gear conversion b16 and a gsr without issue. If I ever decide to start street driving my b16 sc hatch with a itr trans I may put the LS 5th in it. Hope that helps
What are the parts numbers of the input shaft bearing and seal? I bought a transmission for my b20 that has miles of input shaft play and definitely need to replace them. Cheers!
I have no idea…. ID your trans year/make/model and take that info to one any of the factory online parts resources and look it up. Assuming they are all the same has bit me once doing an 91 Si d series as there is an early and late input bearing and they are different.
Sorry… its best to ID your trans year/make/model and look up the parts on one of the factory parts online resources and order them. I never assume they are all the same part #
Yes… all B series manual trans are the same procedure… the awd cr-v is slightly different but similar enough this will get you through the inspection and rebuild.
@@slumpedmage Its just a rebuild with mostly stock parts I doubt it adds any strength, there are aftermarket gear sets that increase strength but I haven’t used them or installed any.
I have really sticky in/out of 5th & it will NOT go back into reverse no matter what. running or not. Any idea if this could be anything other than the linkage?
@@reekodayoungan1104 it was the sleeve between 5th and reverse right? I still haven't fixed mine. Luckily my 92 EG is super light only had to push it a few times
arguably the best video in yt to for topic
Thank You! I have lots of experience rebuilding honda manual transmissions from when I worked at the dealership.
Thanks for actually putting the main shaft back together
I haven’t watched anyone else’s rebuild vids, do they skip that step?

@@MRROCKAPE starting to feel like a novice again, what’s a slider hub? Is that what the gear fork selector moves up and down?

Unfortunately honda nolonger offers the entire gear assemblies and shift forks anymore. There all discontinued

Sir how do you know what series I have it from a 2004 Honda accord 2.4 engine
Do you use any assemble lube when reassembling? If so, where?
A tiny bit of grease on the input seal couldnt hurt but otherwise none. Use Genuine Honda MTF (or whatever they call it now)

No they are different and not interchangeable

The new synchros i got didnt include the snap rings. Would it be ok if re used the old ones?
I wouldn’t re-use the rings, they are wear items.

HondPartsnow.com enter your car and find the part number you can find everything there including torque specs and bolt sizes.
Just curious will this video work for the gsr trans

Synchrotech carbon fiber lined, I have used them exclusively for years with no issues.
