Starting graduate school in the Spring. I can’t wait to start a private practice and then expand to a group practice. I’ll definitely be using your free and paid resources in the future! Thank you

Love your stuff and have binge watched several. Having being in the field for awhile, I do appreciate that it desperately needs more information about business and a lot less money shaming. I really like that you brought up Yalom as a resource with your other recommendations, not because I am psychodynamic, but I think we do need to draw from our own field and never forget the unique position we are in with people/clients. And.... practice your craft!!! Competence has got to be a big part of your business strategy.

Thank you for all of the awesome tips! I started in a group practice in order to take advantage of a consistent referral stream, reducing the isolation, being able to use the practice office assistants. In 3 months, I have 25 clients, feel part of a team of Therapists, save so much time (assistants manage schedule), and negotiated a fair split. Do you recommend transitioning to my own practice?

Hey there! Good to hear from you again :) make sure you tune in to the podcast over the next few weeks, because I am giving you a "shout out" to thank you for your support :)
I'm also doing a podcast episode in the next couple weeks on how and when to leave your group practice and start your own practice.
In the meantime, the biggest thing for you to do BEFORE you transition to your own practice: start setting up your own systems for getting new clients on your own! Extremely crucial first step.

Oop... One more comment, I do have monthly clients - for a few reasons - which makes sense both clinically and financially for me and the client. I don't offer prime spots and clients are very understanding of that. For me, it's worked well

Is where you get your license as a practitioner affect how much you charge per hour?
I was really looking into the LPCC/LMFT hybrid program at Santa Clara University but it’s not “Harvard”...would that mean my fees would be lower than a therapist who was trained at a reputable school like UC Berkeley or Stanford?
    Thanks!

Are you able to have a security camera in your session room in case of allegations of improper behavior?

I would consult an attorney. If a therapist wanted to have a camera going during my sessions, I'd say no thank you and leave.

I know counselors who do and they put it in their informed consent and discussed how the data is stored. Sure some clients might walk, but if your in private practice or operating out of a home its a smart consideration.

I am getting my degree at UNC Charlotte and am thinking about starting my own practice once I graduate. I had my own landscaping business and have a few mentors as well. I am doing my internships at colleges where I do a ton of career counseling which I think is a huge market right now. I am going to keep that in mind moving forward. I watch TH-cam so much in my spare time I thought, "why not try to find a TH-cam video about private practice?" Well, here I am! Awesome video and if you have any other tips, let me know!

I’m 18 starting college in fall to get a masters in psych! I want a private practice do you recommend getting your feet wet first by working with an agency or can I jump straight into private practice? (Getting ahead of myself I know I’ve got a whole degree to get first)
