I'm about 200 hours away from finishing my clinical hours as an amft in California. I wish I could just launch my online private practice and get one of my previous supervisors to supervise me until I've gotten licensed.
Hello! I have been binge watching your videos the past few days and have a question. :) I am a master's level clinical psychology student in Kansas. I am trained in testing (WISC/WAIS, TAT, Rorschach, MMPI-2...) and I'm allowed to have a private practice after 2 years of supervision and can do everything on my own at that point, not under anyone with a PhD. My question is what do you think about states having different laws about master level therapists doing testing on clients? There are very few states that allow master levels to practice on their own (besides under a counselor license, I'm talking about clinical psychologists), and even fewer that allow testing not under a PhD license. I take the EPPP when I graduate as well. Just wanted to see your opinion since you're in a different state with drastically different laws and may have different views than the people around me. :)
Love these videos! A couple questions: 1) How do you send the clients treatment plans for a signature? 2) Can you send a client an email without encryption via GSuite/Google Workspace and still be HIPPA Compliant?
When you're referring to liability insurance, you're referring to to professional liability, right? General liability would only be required for operating face-to-face in an actual office.
Yes, it is recommended that you set up a legal structure and protect your business. Even if services offered are not within a brick and border and solely online. JLW Medical Management Consulting
What about the cost of ensuring you have an adequate HIPAA compliance plan? Having a lawyer either create/review documents, informed consent, etc. I've seen that therapists can find themselves in trouble when they simply try to DIY this step.
You definitely need to be licensed in the same state your client resides. I'm hearing talk of people advocating for this to shift, but I believe this is still where the law stands, since every jurisdiction has separate laws.
@@PrivatePracticeSkillsHi there!! Wondering if you know whether you can provide telehealth therapy to clients who reside in the state you are licensed if you (the provider) live in a different state. Thanks in advance!
@@PrivatePracticeSkills There are some states where its fairly simple to get a license to do teletherapy once you have one in your state of residence. Florida & Washington for example.
I would like to start off by saying that I've watched several of your videos as it pertains to private practice and starting a successful counseling business. There were alot of helpful tools and resources provided. But as I looked deeper into your methodology and belief system I was truly alarmed. How can someone call themselves a Christian and deny God's very word related to gender identity, confusion and homosexuality. True, everyone deserves to be loved and treated with respect but as Born Again believers we are not to condone or accept sin which is direct disobedience to God. Your platform has brought you notoriety, financial gain, and a voice... why would you use that to lead people in error. There is no such thing as a Progressive or Affirming Christian. Understand there will come a day you will have to answer to every idle word and false message that is spread. I share this in love and respect so that you will repent and come back to the truth. God Bless.... 1 Timothy 4:1-2 Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron. 2 Timothy 4:1-4 KJV I charge thee therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the quick and the dead at his appearing and his kingdom; preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine. For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; and they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.
This is exactly what I'm doing. :D And I'll be up and ready to go as long as my agency approves my part-time plan.
That sounds like a great plan, congrats!
This is so timely as always! Thanks Marie. On the home stretch now 🤓📚📖📑🗒📝🎊
You forgot business license costs. To establish PLLC it’s going to cost me roughly $200 in my state.

Very helpful, thank you again
Thank you for the wonderful info! Would I still have to apply for any business permits in my state or city if my practice was solely online?
Any luck on this question?....I am wondering the same?

That's definitely a fair concern, and I think it's easy to make errors when it comes to HIPAA. Thanks for the tip!
Thank You!
She doesn't mention opening a LLC, so that if you do happen to get caught up in law suit the person can not come after your personal assets.
Unfortunately in my state of California therapists are not allowed to be an LLC :'( Sad I know
Oh wow@@PrivatePracticeSkills
How would it work to obtain a business license in California (do we just use our home address)?
Hello, is a master's degree fine, or do I have to go for a Ph.D. for this?
When you do teletherapy, are you able to see patients from other states or does it only have to be from the state you have your license in?

Hello do you mentor
what liability do you have that cost $300?? Lol! Most will cost you less than $100 bucks
Do u mind if I ask which liability you use for $100
right? mines 83/year for 1mil/3mil
Maybe the difference is because she’s a licensed psychologist instead of licensed MFT/LCSW?
@tindakeelie what do you have for insurance?
This is so draining to watch.
