UPDATE AS OF 2024: This motherboard now supports Intel's 14th Gen "Raptor Lake Refresh" processors with a BIOS update available for download from ASUS's website! Given that you're intending to go with the highest end processor and graphics card, it'd be a little odd to go with DDR4 in my opinion. I'd go with DDR5, and if need be, upgrade my RAM sticks further down the road!
@@ALKtech hello I'm from the future. 13900k+rtx 4090 with AIO (msi) + corsair ddr5 7200c34 + 2ssd from Samsung (one for OS, one for steam folder). However ddr5 is only better with the absolute best kits in 7800/8000. DDR4 wins because way lower latency (not the cas, the actual latency in ns) , therefore higher 1% lows in game.
@@dbz9393 DDR5 prices have fallen quite a bit over the past few months - if you're looking at a 13900K or even a high-end 14th Gen Raptor Lake Refresh processor when they arrive towards the end of this year, having some fast DDR5 might be a good idea..
i ordered this board today on dec 31 2023. Yes even if its DDR4. Its for a home multi task server (firewall, fileserver, router, virtualization), i just bought 64gb ddr4 3600mhz for $125us. I will add 3x2tb nvme ssd in Raid 5. Also 3 expansion card (intel i350-t4). Windows Server with Hyper-V running all virtual machine (isolated for each others)
the sweet spot for what i will do with that machine is the i5-13500 (65w) 14 cores (6p/8e) @@ALKtech. My actual machine is i5-11400 6 cores running some linux machine and the cpu is barely hitting 5%, so already powerfull enough for the actual job. But the motherboard is just a micro-atx (32gb ram) and i need more expansion slot, etc. Also i will add couple of windows virtual machine too.
I totally agree...the marketing folks over at the USB consortium could clearly take a lesson or two from the PC hardware community. For instance, why they would rename USB 3.0 to USB 3.1 Gen 1 and then to USB 3.2 Gen 1 when they're all the same thing, is beyond me 😂
hi, nice overview bro, planning to buy this board soon but i just want to clarify if the issues regarding the i225-v/i226-v ethernet is fixed already? such as the the disconnect issue, low speeds, dropping packets etc.
Thanks! I no longer have this board with me, so I can't say for sure that the issues plaguing the Intel Ethernet chip have been resolved fully. www.anandtech.com/show/18755/intel-shares-stopgap-solution-for-intermittent-connection-drops-on-700series-motherboards That said, it does appear that Intel's still trying to find a fix for it via software and future hardware revisions...
I'm not sure if there's gonna be a DDR5 variant of this TUF Gaming board! You might have to look at the other line-ups that ASUS has (e.g. PRIME or ROG) for a DDR5 Z790 board.
Yup this board will work properly with a 12900K, just make sure that you've hooked up both the 8-pin and 4-pin CPU power connectors to your power supply!
I've personally never done the washer mod for any of my LGA1700 builds before, but I guess if the said washers are easy to obtain where you're from, no harm just experimenting. Would be interesting to hear from folks who have done this about their experiences!
I got this board for my dad as someone who owns the Strix Z590-e this board has a few more quality of life upgrades like the GPU button but is there a clear Cmos button on this one?
If my memory hasn't failed me, the Z790-PLUS doesn't have an onboard Clear CMOS button - you'll have to do it the old fashioned way, that is, to remove the CMOS battery or short the CLRTC header at the bottom edge of the board!

Jesus, I never expected to find this level of quality... What a review... I definitely smashed it and subscribed.
Imma consider this motherboard for my build. I5-13600K and maybe 4080 or 7900 xt. Just waiting for 7900 xt benchmark
I'm looking forward to the 7900 XT and XTX benches too - hopefully they'll give NVIDIA a run for the money while consuming less power!
@ALKtech yep imma build this with i5-13600K and 7900 xtx
@@patrickpipz4065 good choice! I don't suppose you'll be using ray tracing all that much eh?
@ALKtech no ray tracing It's really not a big deal for me. Also they should fix the idle power consumption.
Asus TUF z790.... maybe the best choice for my pc with 13900k+ rtx 4090. I don't know if I will have the courage to choose ddr4 in a 5k PC

ddr4 or ddr5 doesn't matter. just go get the highest possible configuration 🙂.
hv the same setup
@@ALKtech DDR5 isn't worth the money DDR4 is a nice sweet spot

Sounds like good value for 64GBs of RAM and your use case. What processor will you be using for your server?

Usb should be defines as 5gbps, 10 20 or 40
Easy to figure out, or thunderbolt 4(full support )

I don't know how to get the WiFi to work, I've been trying but I can't do it
Thanks for this very early review.
Is the box you received complete, or is this just a sample? Where's the wifi antenna?
Hello, it comes with a WIFI antenna and it's shown at the 2:46 mark of the video!
@@ALKtech My bad! Very sorry ! I must have blinked my eyes for too long. It passed without me noticing it.
great detail really well done. any plans on the new maximus hero?
I'll have to see if I can hustle one up - stay tuned!

Omg m so confused .. whenever i want to buy a motherboard for my i5 13600k, i find someone complaining abt it 😢😢😢😢😢
Will the ddr5 version of this board be same price as X670 tuf wifi??

on this ASUS TUF Gaming Z790-PLUS WIFI D4 Motherbord my RGB RAM the lights not works. How can i change the setting?
Have you installed the ASUS Armoury Crate app? Under the Aura Sync section you should be able to tweak your RGB lighting settings, RAM included!
Will have ddr5 version?
Doesn't look like there's going to be a DDR5 variant of this TUF Gaming board...not yet at least!
What is the disc that came in the box for?
Its a DVD containing drivers for the board...for a time when optical drives in PCs were actually a thing 😂
Why not 6e on a new motherboard...?
Yup I agree...wasted opportunity right here, seeing as some mid-range motherboards even have WIFI 6E now!
Is that mobo compatibile with ddr5 RAM?
Nope this board supports DDR4 memory only!
Which ram good for this. Im looking for i5 13600k.
I'd recommend going for at least a DDR4 3600 kit and above. If you have the budget, perhaps even DDR4 4000 or DDR4 4400!
@ALKtech Thanks 🤗
@@chandu_yb7 hey did u finish your build with this motherboard and the i5 13600k?? How is it
idk why they didnt add wifi 6e on these
Agreed that the lack of WIFI 6E is abit of a bummer!
5 months and it broke
damn z790 is such a scam
Good thing that people can still buy Z690 boards (hopefully at good discounts while stocks last) and pair them with 13th Gen instead!
DDR4 released in 2014...Who gonna buy this junky fossil tech?
