  • Hello my fellow Norrathians! All, wow, 113 of you! That's really amazing. Thank you all for waiting a bit longer with this one, it was more work than expected. A great deal has happened since the last video, the channel had its one year anniversary, hit the 100 subscriber milestone and, unfortunately, we lost Brad McQuaid in November.
    McQuaid was one of Everquest's key designers and was even working on a new MMO game, Pantheon, which I've been following closely. His loss has been a gut punch to both the EQ and Pantheon community. I considered making a video highlighting his incredible career, but better youtubers have already done that, so I think the best way I can honor his memory is to continue to share the EQ lore I've found (and heck maybe start thinking about Pantheon lore?).
    Well, then, here is the wrap up for the Estate or Unrest! I'm aware that the stories in Everquest II, the Atlas of Maps of Myrist and even the instance in Everquest itself differ, because consistency in EQ is just a suggestion, but for reference this story comes out of the RPG book Everquest Realms of Norrath: Dangor's Cauldron. I try to use in-game footage as much as possible, then fill in the gaps with my doodles.
    Poor Garanel, he really got the short straw in this situation. Though Tentragen didn't get off without consequence either. The book mentions that they are both trying to find the Hearthstone of Gentle Dissuasion to use as a weapon against the other, their both trying to break into the Black Vault, not realizing that it was buried with Ayernosh. Also a side note, Tentragen didn't get a picture in the book so I used the one for the Drybones Skeleton, because it looked grumpy and hilarious.
    Until next time!

    I've been playing EQ since 2002, and knew very little of this. My main is even a Faydwer native. 🤪 Very cool video! I'll have to break out all the EQ D20 books that have been collecting dust on my shelf.

    You have a very smokey and relaxing voice, and the info is fluid and concise, and there aren't very many lore vids. Are you only doing creature segments? Or have you thought about doing a broader topic like a history/timeline piece? Thanks again for the thoughtful quality. Also really appreciate you taking it from the perspective of your character.

      Thank you for the kind words! I've been working on my reading voice so its nice to know its helping. Creature videos are easier to make, their shorter and I can use more in game footage to fill out the audio, where history and timeline pieces are longer and need more visual aids. Telling the history of Unrest really caught me off guard when the script ended up being 6 pages! I plan on doing more history and timeline videos as I slowly become better at making videos. My ultimate goal is simply to share as much lore as I can.

    The Prestige Quest for the Dwarven Work Boots is given by a descendant of Garanel. The quest giver is called Hwal Rucksif. I believe the ghost of his ancestor you put to rest in that timeline is Garanel. Pretty wild throwback.

      Yup, the book is Realms of Norrath Dagnor's Cauldron. Since the books are out of print I try to show as much of the art as possible to help preserve it. I know! It reminds me alot of Death House from D&D, I might try running it with 5e monster stats one day.

      @@lorewhoregalore1393 It would be great if they revived Everquest as a setting for 5e, Pathfinder or any other system; however, it's pretty unlikely considering the RPG books came out when Everquest was in full swing.

    whait... there exists OTHER liches than Miragul? I thought he was the First and only one since the "how to be a Lich" is burried with him in the North (that what i thought when i read "Realms of Norrath: Everfrost Peak")
    ALSO question: was this whole lore ever... explained ingame? i mean could you really get all of this by talking to NPCs and stuff or was it more fleshed out in the Everquest D20 sourcebooks?

    • @lorewhoregalore1393
      @lorewhoregalore1393  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      To answer this I have to bring up a huge problem with Everquest lore: Consistency. There are actually four different tellings of the events of the Estate of Unrest:
      -The original quest for the Bard Epic weapon where you bring Serra her doll and she says her father is Baenar Swiftsong.
      -EQ RPG book which is what my video is about
      -The story from the Maps of Myrist
      -The raid instance 'The Curse begins' that was added in the Dragons of Norrath expansion.
      While they are all direct from EQ source material, none of them are exactly the same, actually they are all rather different. The only thing that seems to be consistent is that a dwarf named Garanel went mad and killed a human priest of Quellious. The RPG book is the only one that mentions the lich Tintragen or the priest Ayernosh, while the in game raid instance doesn't even say Cazic-Thule was involved in the curse at all. Most of the stories paint poor Garanel as a dwarf that just went crazy and is now a vengeful spirit, as opposed to him being a victim of a lich.
      I reviewed all these sources and, because the other stories seemed to be watered down versions of what happened in the RPG book, I went with the RPG book. Its the most comprehensive and actually explains why a temple was built at this location. I can't say why the story of this zone has been rewritten so many times, I know there was difficulty in keeping track of the original game history as it was being produced and that likely played a part in the different version that came about.
      But, I like to think of these inconsistencies as the actual denizens of Norrath coming up with different explanations and speculations of what happened, with some history being inevitably lost to time, as opposed to SonyEQ simply losing their notes. Yes, this has made my job difficult, though rather fun as well.
      As for there being liches other than Miragul, you are correct that the RPG books say that the method he used was buried with him, however there are apparently other methods in game if not in the books. I believe Rile Sathir is considered a liche, and the undead snakes on the moon of Luclin may also fall into that category as well. There is also a dracoliche in the Plane of Fear who also has a pretty cool story, as well as the one Tserrina raises in the Tower of Frozen Shadow, so in game at least there are plenty of them running around.

    • @Zanji1234
      @Zanji1234 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@lorewhoregalore1393 well the backstories of the Estate can be explained with "peoples are telling the stories while each time adding more and more stuff"
      Regarding Miragul: i would say that Miragul based his work on the one which the Ikzar Lich made and added his own twist
