Everquest Lore: Veksar and the Lake of Ill Omen

  • Hello my fellow Norrathians and welcome to the coziest spot on Kunark! There are some places where you can only find the lore through quests that NPC's give, and Veksar is no exception, if you've ever wondered what a dragon's ghost is doing at the bottom of a lake then I've got a story for you!
    Veksar was always a very cool zone for me, even though it's one of the newer dungeons (releasing in Legends of Ykesha) the atmosphere of the place is incredible. Getting all of Garudon's bones took about 8 straight hours of camping, while the book took about 3, I didn't notice the first time that it was temporary (vanishes upon logout), but nothing, nothing gave me as much trouble as the sharks and the boats. The pathing for water in EQ was always interesting but my Innoruuk, even trying to get them to swim in a straight line was a battle for the ages! And hey, some of the pre-Luclin models are back! I forgot just how ugly the Ogre models were.
    On a side note I would like to thank all 268 subscribers and anyone else who stopped in to watch. Should I do more Iksar lore? I kinda wanna do more Iksar lore. I know things are crazy out there right now so stay safe, stay sane, and I'll see you all next time!
    All music by Kevin MacLeod: Gathering Darkness, Beach Party, Hitman, Shadowlands Breath, Shadowlands Antechamber, Dangerous, Lightless Dawn. Lore sources: In game book "Captain of the Seas", Quest "Release Garudon"

    Don't suppose I could request something on the topic of the birth of the Sarnaks, and how it ended up in a conflict between them and the iksars?

    • @lorewhoregalore1393
      @lorewhoregalore1393  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I'm already working on Dozekar the Cursed for the next video and then maybe Torsis for Halloween, so until I can get around to making a video on them here is a summary of their origins and the bad blood between them and the Iksar.
      The Sarnak race was created by Atrebe Sathir, son of Rile Sathir, third Emperor of the Sebilisian Empire. He created the Sarnak by magically combining dragons and Iksar into one being. He also combined dragons and frogloks to create the flying mounts Sokokar which gave the Iksar an air force that proved to be a great bane to the dragons. It's suspected that Atrebe was taught this method by the vampire Chosooth, but this is uncertain because I can't find anything else about Chosooth, not even his race.
      The Sarnak proved to be an amazing force, tough, fiercely intelligent and with an apt for magic they served the Iksar in battle against the dragons and helped keep control over Froglok and Giant slaves. But, as the Sebilisan Empire began to fall apart during the last decade or so of the war against the Ring of Scale, starving Frogloks and Giants slaves revolted and the Sarnak were not far behind. More then a few Sarnak feasted on their former masters before they fled from the ruined cities into the Burning woods where they decided that they would become their own masters.
      From there they seem to have split into three factions, the Brood of Di'zok, which is the faction under Overking Bathezid in Chardok, the Sarnak Collective and the Thrall of Kly.
      These three Sarnak factions aren't really opposed to each other. The Sarnak Collective just doesn't bow to Overking Bathezid, but mostly they avoid stepping on each others toes, and the Kly mostly stay in the Crypt of Dalnir. The Sarnak will work with the dragons and goblins when they please, even though they see ever other race as inferior, mostly to stick it to the Iksar.

      That's almost everything I know about them as a race. I still can't find anything more on Xalgoz, the apparently only Sarnak vampire in existence, but perhaps one day!

    One thing that puzzles me is that undead inhabitants of Veksar look very different from normal Iksar - even if they are undead. Body feature and head shape are different. Veksarians look more like Dragon-kin than Iksar. As a matter of fact they more resemble Sarnaks than Iksars.

      @@milat9287 EQ dosen't make it easy! Some lore can only be found in out of print RPG books, item descriptions or quests that are broken now. It seems like some answers were never actually put into the game (who's brain is in the jar in the Tower of Frozen Shadow? Who created the Sarnak vampire Xalgoz?) so even if your looking for a particular answer you may never find it. It sure is fun to look though!
