  • Home Minister Amit Shah has sparked an uproar with his comment that it is necessary to have a language which could represent India in the world and it should be Hindi. We are asking tonight - Is the stage being set for a new language struggle? Is the centre planning to make teaching Hindi compulsory?

Group 2. Hyderabad born and brought up telugus are so fluent in hindi that you find them as native speakers until they reveal not.
Group 3. Telugus who migrated from rayalseema and coastal andhra to hyderabad for better prospects do not speak fluent hindi and many of them dont even speak any hindi.
Group 4 - north indians who emigrated to Hyderabad for business, speak telugu to some extent for their business prospects, but dont bother to learn it fully.
Group 5 - white collar job seekers ( mainly IT) from north india who move to hyderabad do not even realise that there is a language called telugu.
Group 6 - fellow south indians who move to hyderabad ( like me) learn some basic telugu out of respect and similarity to tamil, kannada, malayalam.
Here the problem is group 2 and 5, who create all the language divide in the city. And the most vulnerable people are group 3.
      Note:
      1) My house owner in youauf guda basti where I was put up for 2 yrs, were from nellore. And they couldnt speak a line of hindi, when I tried to strike a conversation in hindi. And after a few months i picked up some telugu and could interact better.
      2) half of my office colleagues from rayalseema coastal districts couldnt speak proper hindi and felt very inferior living in hyd. Some openly told me that I was lucky to be speaking good hindi ( despite being from chennai) and wouldnt find any issues.

but a lot more people already speak Hindi. Also you must remember there are languages like marathi and Gujrati which have some similarties with Hindi. Hence it's just easier for you to learn hindi Than everyone to learn Tamil. You are thinking that the entire north speaks hindi as their native language. but this is not true, This is a very one dimensional view of them, there are just as many languages and dialects there as they are in the south. our PM made the speech in UN in Hindi, not in Gujrati. Hindi/Urdu is nobody's language its our language as "Hindu"stanis.

We sitting at home cannot feel their pain after all there is something called as humanity. Demonatization not sure how was it with a good intention of government. As nothing came out of it for common citizens either the government is living in a trial and error methods of implementing things be it demonatization or GST... you just cannot experiment on people without taking proper measures and forcing it on the country due to which I also lost my job. And now the economy is slow down that there is no hope of job creation. The investors are not ready to invest anymore on new projects. This is not true, you have seen a few second generation Tamils who have learned kannada which would have been much more practical in the 90s since not a lot of people spoke English and Hindi back then. and making your opinion about it. I know so many Mallus and Tamils who don't speak a word of Kannada in Karnataka. Its impractical for everyone to learn a bit of Kannada if they are Guests in our States.

In kerala we all are learning hindi since our first standard. However now the trend has changed and the children started to learn hindi from kindergarten itself. Being a malayali i can say that all of us very well know to read and write hindi but that doesn't mean that we all are fluent in speaking hindi. Because hindi is not a mandatory language for us, we have our own mother tongue to communicate
