I am happy user of noctua nh dh 14 for over 8 years and i must say it's a beast. Also after upgrading my motherboard it comes with free mounting kit from noctua.
I have a 5800x and an NZXT Kraken Z73 and I can confirm that they do run toasty. That said, through my own unscientific testing (trying different coolers I had laying around and pulling clocks from Ryzen Master) I can also confirm that (at least)the 5800x targets to temperature off available power, as my max temperatures were nearly identical across all coolers, but the max clock trended downward on the cheaper coolers (it really wasn't a fan of the old $20 CoolerMaster that I keep around for emergencies.)
Yes the 5800X seems to be the best at using up all available cooling under load. We've come to confuse "lower temps at load" and "performance". Basically Ryzen 5000 is extremely efficient at eating up all available cooling to pump out as much performance as possible.
Bought a iD cooling frost flow 280 Aio 8 years ago, took the pump apart and cleaned it out, the pumps been dying for the last year running at 10-30 percent if that, Still manages to cool a 5800x, Putting it in push pull makes a huge difference
Surprisingly my 240mm Corsair liquid AIO (I think it's an H100) still works after 10 years, although I had to reapply new thermal paste 3 years ago as my temps started to spike. I'll probably try a Noctua air cooler on my new build as noise is a big concern of mine (I replaced the loud Corsair AIO fans with Noctua because I didn't like hearing an airplane taking off all of the time).
Found myself returning to view your guide again, one I found an outstanding one, thanks so much for your round-up, changed my purchases for fans for my two new builds: one a Ryzen 5600x using the Scythe Fuma 2 black for my 5600x, and a Noctua NH-D15 (black) for my 5900x PC. Thanks so much for your verbal style in reviewing products in general, in easy terms to learn information and enjoy, Thanks for your videos.
Don't forget about the slightly slimmer sibling to the Noctua NH-D15, the NH-D15S (both come in the chromax black versions as well). I think the D15S has some advantages over the D15.
@@spekenbonen72 It's pretty much the same story here too, even with a Ryzen 9 5900X. Light workloads and heavy browser use only push it up to 34°C. Even the most strenuous 3D rendering workloads get it up to about 56°C, and with my 5000D Airflow case and collection of Noctua Redux case fans it cools back down below 30°C within ten seconds after finishing more demanding tasks.

The deepcool v2 is truly a great cooler. Its performance rivals $60+ coolers. My 5600x never goes above 87 cel even at 30 cel ambient temp in the summer; usually 75 cel at 21 cel ambient temp. It does get loud at max speed, but only if you sit in a silent room. The noise is not noticeable if you have speakers/headset on.

The best cooler are Noctua NH-D15, Premium CPU Cooler with 2x NF-A15 PWM 140mm Fans (Brown) - personally I am very happy with that :)) - definitely suggested!

I don't buy cheap coolers since many years anymore. Since I bought a Noctua NH-C12P SE14 in 2011 I used this cooler for 10 years! Noctua sent me for free the mount conversion kit for my last AM4 CPU. I recently bought a new Noctua NH-U12A which will last me a couple of years again.

Such a cool video, indeed 😆👍 I've got me a Noctua nh-d15 chromax.black for my Ryzen 9 5900x. I get from 30 to 34ºC on idle. On Cinebench it keeps on 63°C as an average. I've never seen my CPU above 70°C yet and I am playing hard, with max settings for long time. I am fully recommending Noctua, this beast does not even make any sound when cooling your cpu.
@@sampritdas3442 My case is the NZXT Noctis 450 Rog. Airflow comes from the frontal (3 fans) and then it goes out of the case by the top and back of the case. I just have 3 fan at the front and 1 at back.
My 5950x has NEVER gotten over 72c under load. It idles at low 30's. I use a Corsair H115i Platinum RBG 280mm. I used a Cooler Master 212 Hyper prior to the AIO and still never had any issues. The idle temp ran in the 40's though. My workflow is real estate photo and 4k & 6k video editing for my business, with gaming when I have time.
Corsair h115i is very good, if I had more time I would have included that series. Yes, you can cool a 5950X with something like a 212 if you aren't going to stress it. In this video I'm essentially assuming a heavy load scenario (all cores over a heavy hour+ long workload) just so I hit everything. In most cases the recommendations will be slight overkill (especially if just gaming or lightly threaded workloads).
I love Arctic and EK and using them both. For me, they are the best value for the money. I used to have Noctua NH-D15 Chromax but wasn't enough for either my 5900x or 10850k when OC'd from my personal experience. If you are after the value and performance my suggestion would be - Overclocked 5900x/ Overclocked 5950x - Arctic LF II 420mm AIO - Stock 5900x, Stock 5950x, and Overclocked 5800x - Arctic LF II 360mm AIO or EK AIO 360mm AIO - Stock 5800x - any 240mm/280mm AIO or higher/ any high-end Air Coolers from this video - 5600x - any AIO or Air Coolers from this video
EK does have quality control issues (gunk in loop system) that I've seen so far.. makes me weary of them for now otherwise it keeps me hopping between Arctic and EK.. can't decide what to purchase
Just installed a Corsair ML360P, into a build, the controller that came with the box was very interesting and fun to setup even if a bit complex. But it was glitchy and not all my RGB was working correctly or in sync. So even though I had fun cabling it up, I ended up dirching it just using the ARGB headers on the motherboard and now things are flawless. Picked up an Artic EVO 34 'single' for another build. The duo's are very hard to find in Europe. Nice review.
I am planning to build a new Amd 5900x system. Coming from Intel this will be my first amd build and your videos helped a lot in choosing the right RAM, MOBO and AIO Cooler to pair with the processor.
I went from cheap fans that was included with my Intel CPU's to an Arctic Liquid Freezer II 240 2x120mm. Not only was my CPU kept a lot cooler, it was surprisingly quiet!

videos on your channel are one of the most useful and value for time around. You explain the concept, recommendations, and why those recommendations make sense for an average buyer situation. real-world advice. I finally assembled my PC parts this weekend (first outside as to ensure everything works and then yesterday inside the case) and I am using the amazing Arctic Liquid freezer II 420 mm AIO for my 5950X CPU. This is in a meshify 2 case, low height corsair LPX 3600Mhz 64GB RAM to accommodate the RAM height limitation in the case with such a wide AIO. But it looks like Gigabyte has made the shroud on the B550 Aorus master board a bit fat by a few mm and it is making it a tight fit with the radiator pressing onto it. I managed to tighten and close the case but the top is not comfortable and is off by a few mm. The side panel is closing but it is not completely flush with the case. hopefully, it will not release and fall away. Motherboard makers are making the shrouds fatter with LEDs and graphics, hopefully, the case makers will also compensate and give a bit more room with fat motherboards and fat AIO combination
So the top mounted AIO is rubbing against the top of the motherboard? is the case bent a little? Sometimes hard to see. If not, could you slightly bend the mount or case to alleviate this? If you have the whole thing together, I'm not sure I'd worry about it.
@@PCBuilderChannel yes, top is bent a bit. The metal plate part that attached to radiator is not fitting like new. Managed to press fit the filter and metel cover on top of case but it's
I wish I had this exellent info 3 weeks ago when I built my first Ryzen PC and got an Aorus ATC 800 air cooler for my 5800x. Should have gone with AIO. Nevertheless, great stuff, Jason!
@@PCBuilderChannel It's easy to install outside the case, it looks great and the cooling is also great, but it is a bit on the noisy end, to me at least, but I guess it boils down to that this is my first AMD build, and the 5800x is running at higher temperatures than I've ever seen on Intel. But after watching this I would have gotten the Arctic AIO for the same money.
I have the Noctua NH-D15 chromax black cooler. The 140mm fan over the RGB RAM would not allow the temper glass door to close. I had to buy a $23 Noctua 120mm fan to replace over the 140mm fan over the RAM for the door to close. Just make sure you get the right version of the 120mm--get the version for the CPU cooler, not the case fan version. The original fan clip works with both 140mm and 120mm cooler fans.
I just came from a few generations of cold ass CPUs to the 5600x and seeing 95c almost made me shut down the PC...so glad to hear these are "normal temps".. I'm still getting an aftermarket cooler tho.
Thanks for a video which is both concise and informative. I was fortunate score a 5900X at MSRP and a 6700XT at close to it, so I could go ahead with my build. I was hesitant between an AIO and an air cooler. After some research I decided for a Be Quiet Dark Rock 4. In addition of the stock 135 mm fan, it does come with an extra set of wire brackets so you can slap a 120 mm fan to the front of the cooling tower thus making it into a push-pull configuration. That’s what I did. Currently I got the system on a mild DOCP overclock and CPU temps (according to CUPID HWMonitor) is around 40 C on idle and 60 - 65 C while heavy gaming (Cyberpunk 2077). I must say I’m very happy with this cooling solution
I'm trying to decide between dark rock 4 and pro. Just to clarify, you got the original and not the pro, right? Some ppl said pro is truly an overkill for 5000 series.
Tried the Enermax Liqmax III RGB 240 AIO which came bundled with my Ryzen 9 5950x, it did all right, but got above 70 C under load pretty easily, wasn't too happy with that. So decided to give the Icegiant Prosiphon Elite a shot. Ebay seller failed to mention no extra thermal paste included, even though it was listed as new, but even then, with recycled enermax mystery paste currently on it, kept under 65 degrees under heavy load. Grabbing some Grizzly Kryonaut Extreme paste to do it right soon, but very happy with my Icegiant Prosiphon Elite so far. No RGB bling either, just the way I like it!
So far I ordered an EVGA CLC 280mm AIO for my upcoming build with a 5900X. Now I am thinking I might have to chose a different one for the idea of putting an image onto the AIO cooler. I like the idea of more customization and to make things more unique. Very insightful. Loved this
Just purchased the Noctua NH-U12S Redux to use on an AMD 5600x. They went Grey instead of Brow/Tan or Black and I like the looks. Hopefully they keep offering this variant and maybe move it into the other lines.
How is the noise level? Do the fans ramp up a lot or stay quiet under heavy gaming? I bought a prebuilt that came with a 120 AIO and my 5800 gets up to around 85+ while gaming, but the fan spins up very loud to keep it even that cool.
Love how you categorize and recommend the parts.

Glad you liked it!! Thanks for watching!
Love that merch! Congrats!!
Thank you!!
Absolute perfect timing as I'm currently building my PC. SUBSCRIBED!
Welcome aboard!
Don't forget about the slightly slimmer sibling to the Noctua NH-D15, the NH-D15S (both come in the chromax black versions as well). I think the D15S has some advantages over the D15.
Mine runs 28C idle, 60C full load. 4 banks of RAM in an AKASA eclipse case.
No leak risk... more then enough room.
I run my D15s on my 3900x 80c unser load at 4,25 allcore
I been away from PC building for some years now. I am starting research for new build after 8 years. I really like your video's. I think your channel is one of the best on TH-cam. Alot has changed in the PC market. My next build is the Ryzen 5950X.
Welcome back to PC building! Glad we can help and best of luck with your new build
omg i was just looking for this info thank you so much!!
Glad I could help!
Have to agree with the majority. My brain feels good after watching you. Not overloaded with terms and numbers I can't compute as a non-IT wiz. On my 2nd build and your knowledge has been helping me greatly. Got the Zoomflow just now =D
The noise is not noticeable if you have speakers/headset on.
bro mine reaches upto 96 degrees on only 30mins of use , should i buy an aio ?
@@tranxyvalo1120 I would if yours is getting that hot for whatever reason. I use the stock fan with my 5600x and haven’t went above 84ish degree Celsius. May be a problem above just what cpu cooler you’re using
Easy to understand summary without too much techno language. Thank you. Good to see the Arctic Freezer II 240 I bought last month made your list
Glad it was helpful!
I have Noctua NH-D15 (black) so far I like it a lot.
It's a great performer! :)
what kind of fan orientation do you use and what case are you using ?
how is your temp and what cpu do you have?
Using a Noctua NH-D15S chromax.black with my Ryzen 5600x and it never goes above 70°C no matter how hard I push it, and it’s stable running at 4.75 GHz for all cores.
Well worth the money spent.
I like where the videos are going 🤙🏼 keep up the work brother!💛
Thank you! And thanks for watching
I'm using my six-year-old Corsair H150i Pro cooler for my 5900x. It does the job.
Thank you for the time and effort you put into your channel! Great job! Love the clear and precise way you give your reviews! Keep up the great work!
Glad you like them!
Binge watching all your content. I tend to hate hardware reviewers because I never learn anything. However, your explanations are easy to follow. Thanks man.
Thanks for the feedback! We appreciate it. Thanks for watching!
He’s intro every vidio : so you building a ryzen 5000 system bla bla bla😂 i love this channel
Jason, you're absolutely right, the merch is a must. But you've gotta stop giving such excellent advice on which products to buy if you want to sell it. My birthday isn't for 6 months!!! LOLOL
good advice! And happy early birthday (:
@@PCBuilderChannel Thanx for the B-day wish! Since my PC-builder shirt is not in stock now, will it be worth it to wait for the Christmas season?
You didn’t want to give Scythe “too much airtime” on a video recommending CPU coolers 😂🤣😭.
hahah! I don't have any sponsors and I try to be fair and spread the love around. But I probably overthought that one huh?
@@PCBuilderChannel well you said it so naturally I wasn’t sure if you caught that or thought of that after making the video. Intentional or not it was funny. Thank you for the great wealth of information. I learned quite a bit from this video. I’m now headed to tinker with my 10 year old HP Pavilion to add some faster ram, upgraded CPU, and a “Be Quiet” Slim Rock cooler. You have a great day. Keep up the good work.
Awesome! Happy tinkering and thanks for watching!
I recently purchased a be quiet pure loop 240mm aio for my ryzen 5 3600 oc to 4.4ghz @1.2875v all core and switched the stock pure winds 2 fans for 2x scythe wonder snail 120mm's. The thermal performance is great. Awesome video man and keep up the great content.
Thank you! I do like the be quiet! pure loop and glad you are getting good performance out of it.
The wraith stealth: **looks at wallet** heheheh not yet.
Glad I found this. I'm upgrading from 3600x to 5900x ( cant afford new platform cost). Hoping to switch to CPU encoding since I play heavy CPU titles the most
Cat,,,30k with merch
KAT!!!! :)
perfect timing, I just watched your previous videos on ryzen 5000 cooling today and then this came
Awesome! :)
@@PCBuilderChannel thanks a lot for your videos! they really helped me out with my new build! Keep up the good work!
2:59 , compared to intel amd is more efficient
Only just discovered your channel. Normally don't consider PC Builder channels and they simply go over things I already know. But this is useful, independent reviews of individual products allowing me to make best judgement when purchasing. So thanks for great content, liked, subscribed. Slowly watching the wealth of content on your channel. Keep it up, appreciated.
Welcome to the channel! So glad you are enjoying the content. And thank you for the feedback. It means a lot to us
The best cooler are Noctua NH-D15, Premium CPU Cooler with 2x NF-A15 PWM 140mm Fans (Brown) - personally I am very happy with that :)) - definitely suggested!
Just received and installed my artic liquid freezer 240mm A-rgb yesterday and I am loving it!
Great to hear!
Man, I LOVE this series. I'm buying a 5950X right now, and have no idea what parts to get. You're videos are so helpful!!!
Glad I could help! Thanks for watching!
@@PCBuilderChannel - Do you have a suggestion for the cheapest acceptable Video Card for 5950X/Asus ProArt Creator? I'm only using it for music production and only need video so I can power my 4k monitors. I'm having a tough time finding reviews on this specific setup for music.
ORGANIZATION = This Channel!
Loved it!
We love to hear it! Thank you (:
I don't buy cheap coolers since many years anymore. Since I bought a Noctua NH-C12P SE14 in 2011 I used this cooler for 10 years! Noctua sent me for free the mount conversion kit for my last AM4 CPU. I recently bought a new Noctua NH-U12A which will last me a couple of years again.
My 5800x maxes out at 82C with %100 load. During gaming 1440 ultra It will spike to 55 degrees, usually hovering around 50. Lapped IHS, Lapped AIO block, Arctic 280mm ($115), and kryonaut. Also, I only run 1.262V core, and chip will still boost past 5ghz
Watching now at almost 410k subs when you had a goal of 30k. Congratulations!
Thanks so much for watching! We're growing fast and appreciate the support.
Thank you for the compliment and Thanks for sharing!
what kind of pc case fan orientation do you use and what case are you using ?
@@sampritdas3442 My case is the NZXT Noctis 450 Rog. Airflow comes from the frontal (3 fans) and then it goes out of the case by the top and back of the case. I just have 3 fan at the front and 1 at back.
I got a Dark Rock Pro 4 for $60 on sale. Sure it's big, but very reliable and worry free cooling for years and years.
0:00 I haven't seen the video yet but just because you mentioned all these questions I have in my head, I'll drop a like and subscribe✌️
Hope we answered all your questions and lived up to the hype! Thanks for watching and welcome (:
If you are after the value and performance my suggestion would be
- Overclocked 5900x/ Overclocked 5950x - Arctic LF II 420mm AIO
- Stock 5900x, Stock 5950x, and Overclocked 5800x - Arctic LF II 360mm AIO or EK AIO 360mm AIO
- Stock 5800x - any 240mm/280mm AIO or higher/ any high-end Air Coolers from this video
- 5600x - any AIO or Air Coolers from this video
EK and Arctic are killing it for the high end AIOs right now.
Sorry it gave you trouble at first but glad you are happy with your set up now. It sounds great!
You saved me a lot of trouble so I used your link to buy the Fuma 2.
Thanks! Glad I could help!
I got an EK 360 RGB AIO on my 5600x build
It's stable, runs great, nice and cool
I am planning to build a new Amd 5900x system. Coming from Intel this will be my first amd build and your videos helped a lot in choosing the right RAM, MOBO and AIO Cooler to pair with the processor.

Glad you like them!
I went from cheap fans that was included with my Intel CPU's to an Arctic Liquid Freezer II 240 2x120mm.
Not only was my CPU kept a lot cooler, it was surprisingly quiet!

Sorry to hear that! So frustrating
Im getting the Liquid freezer II tmrw and am very excited. Thanks for the tips!

videos on your channel are one of the most useful and value for time around.
Thanks! That being said, how do you like that cooler? It looks very cool
Awesome! Congrats on your build and thanks for watching!
Nice!
Thank you VERY much for such a thorough explanation!
Now i'm gonna get NZXT Kraken Z63 280mm 🙌
So glad we could help!
So far I ordered an EVGA CLC 280mm AIO for my upcoming build with a 5900X. Now I am thinking I might have to chose a different one for the idea of putting an image onto the AIO cooler. I like the idea of more customization and to make things more unique.
Very insightful. Loved this
Thank you!
@@PCBuilderChannel any opinions on that cooler I mentioned? Kinda flipping back and forth now
It’s a very good cooler. Can tend to be on the loud side. The Arctic Liquid freezer ii 280mm is the one I would recommend.
@@PCBuilderChannel Thank you. Definitely looking into the Arctic cooler or the EK cooler you mentioned now
Just purchased the Noctua NH-U12S Redux to use on an AMD 5600x. They went Grey instead of Brow/Tan or Black and I like the looks. Hopefully they keep offering this variant and maybe move it into the other lines.
I'm using the Vetroo on a Ryzen 7 3700x with no overclocking and it works very well for a less than $30 tower cooler.

Oh good looks like we are able to help. Yes we have deep dives into almost all pc components (we need to do a new case one soon) so hope you enjoy!
You can literally put a Freezer II 280 on anything and it'll be fine. Works great on my 5800X. Very happy with it, and recommend to everyone.
Yes the 280 is amazing!
How is the noise level? Do the fans ramp up a lot or stay quiet under heavy gaming? I bought a prebuilt that came with a 120 AIO and my 5800 gets up to around 85+ while gaming, but the fan spins up very loud to keep it even that cool.
@@mayssm I force my fan curve to be not aggressive so it almost never gets loud. It typically runs around 1000Rpm at load. Maybe a bit more.
