If you just heard of Gary Moore you are into a treat. He was one of the absolute best rock/blues guitarist. This is one of his best but there are many more pieces he did that are also exceptional. I put together a playlist on my phone of 39 of his pieces and have a few others to add. Truly exceptional. One of my favorites is "Separate Ways". I'm glad you discovered Gary Moore. He was truly one of a kind, as in "there could never be another." Sadly, he passed away eleven years ago, but at least we have his incredible music to remember him by my Gary Moore was considered a national treasure in Ireland; even though he was raised in England, Irish people still consider him one of our own due to him spending so much of his early career in Ireland. He could play virtually any style of guitar music (rock, blues, hard rock, heavy metal and even country) as well as (or even better than) the acknowledged masters of that style. But it was only once he switched to the blues that he really came into his own. He shared the stage with some of the greatest blues players in history, and they were awed by his incredible feel...he just "got it!" If you want to witness a veritable "master class in coolth," check out the live video of Gary and B.B. King himself playing "The Thrill Is Gone" live. I recommend listen to the entire discography of him alone. But seeing him live in his videos is even better, it was unique. For me and for many he will be our teacher forever. I will continue learning from him for life. He left early but he left us a legacy.
The real King of Blues. To bad he is no longer with us but he was a deeply spiritual Christian man and that is why he plays with so much depth and in every dimension. He knew what life was all about. Thank you for having been around Gary, may you rest in peace !
Best guitar player that has ever lived period . He’s so good that the other top 5 players that ever lived are not even in the same league as Moore . Nobody compares .
it was April 14 a Friday and the venue was the biggest indoor arena in my city and on stage Gary Moore! If i don't recall wrong this was the last song he did and i still remember that long "hang note" which this song became famous for when he did it live. Although i don't listen that much to this kind of music these days but whenever i hear Gary it's a special feeling. None but Gary moore could make the guitar sound so sad, when words failed him the guitar spoke!
1984 Hammersmith was a legendary show! I’ve been there and totally mesmerised for his incredible guitar sounds. I was so lucky to have watched it while I was living in London that year. Later he came to Japan few times but I couldn’t make it to the show. Still unbelievable he’s not here with us.
Gary Moore one of the greatest guitar masters to come out of Ireland. His contribution to the metal and blues world is legendary. Can't believe you've never heard of him before.
So glad you appreciate Gary Moore's virtuoso guitar playing -- his performance of Parisienne is uniquely pleasant to listen to, and yes the tempo helps. We lost Moore, like his predecessor Leroy "Roy" Buchanan (September 23, 1939 - August 14, 1988) way to soon. Just as Steve Val, learned from (and some say surpassed) his guitar mentor, Joe "Satchmo" Satriani (Vai also spent sometime honing his musical skills with a very demanding Frank Zappa). Moore may have achieved the virtuoso status of Roy Buchanan (or, perhaps even eclipsed Roy). I leave it to you to make that judgment. Roy used to play "The Messiah Will Come Again" or you may want to check out his performance of "Green Onions". Moore later did a cover of "The Messiah Will Come Again" I'm very interested in your straight up comparison of these virtuoso guitarists. Roy was known for his achieving incredible guitar tones without the foot pedal effects devices customarily employed by later guitarists. Roy Buchanan's cover of the Booker T. Washington hit Green Onions is astounding ... unbelievable sounds coming out of his Fender Telecaster, amazin'! Enjoy😊
Gary's version of "The Messiah will come again" is the most breath-taking, emotional, jaw dropping example of guitar mastery you will ever see. His blues playing was in a league all of its own. He was the greatest and yet most people here in Northern Ireland, where he was from, have never heard of him. Sadly, they are more likely to worship the memory dead terrorists on all sides of the divide. Dublin has a wonderful statue tribute to the mighty Phil Lynott, yet Belfast has yet to honour the greatest guitarist of all time. So sad. To me Gary Moore is the greatest of Irelands son's and his gift to the world shall continue to inspire people and fill their hearts with all sorts of emotions at the touch of a string for as long music can be heard.
What a legend 🥰 I'd highly recommend Gary Moore & Phil Lynott - Parisienne Walkways. Not only does it give me goosebumps, but it always brings a tear to my eye too xxx
Any of his appearances at the Montreux Jazz Festival will blow you away. Towards the end of this you can hear his Irish roots coming in for a short time.
Feel incredibly privileged i came across Gary Moore in my own personal musical odyssey back in late 70's. Was more of a Rory Gallagher fan but GM produced so many gems over the next 30 yrs he is/was one of my all time musical heroes 😊😊
Gary Moore. The Man. The Myth. The legend. He was one of the best blues guitarists of the modern era. Let alone Thin Lizzy. Let alone one of the best shredders in the early 80's. His cover of Shapes of Things made most shredders hang their heads like whipped dogs. The man was a Master Guitarist. Check out cuts like The Loner Over the Hills and Far Away Out in the fields Is it rock? Is it metal? Is it blues? Like the critical drinker says "Don't know". I just know it as GARY MOORE!!!
Highly recommend listening to official video of him doing Over The Hills And Far Away. Covers of that song worth listening to are done by Nightwish and by Patty Gurdy (playing an instrument you have probably never seen before).
Part of the VooDoo here is the fact that Gary is playing "Greeny" the Les Paul 'Burst that he got from the GREAT Peter Green of original Fleetwood Mac - merely punch up Peter Green The Supernatural on YT to witness the master and the SUSTAAAAAAIN this guitar has on that song. The guitar is now in the hands of Kirk Hammett and he takes it out on stage today as well - the thing being worth well over a million clams. Kirk won't say how much he paid and I don't blame him. Gary was okay - kind of in the school of too many notes (Peter could destroy him playing one third the notes at half the speed) but with more soul & feel than Bonamassa going thru the clichés rapidly but minus some soul. 🎸
I have heard them all, all the best Guitar players, and after awhile get tired of them, but not Gary Moore, every time I watch his videos it is like the first time.
Thanks for turning me onto Gary. I never heard of him before. I read one of the comments that he played with Thin Lizzy. I had one of their albums when I was a kid.

I recommend listen to the entire discography of him alone. But seeing him live in his videos is even better, it was unique. For me and for many he will be our teacher forever. I will continue learning from him for life. He left early but he left us a legacy.
Damn! First time I've heard Gary Moore too. Impressive.
And he can sing! Check out “Still Got the Blues For You.”
Agreed. Top-Drawer material and a stunning performance -- Moore at his best!
The real King of Blues. To bad he is no longer with us but he was a deeply spiritual Christian man and that is why he plays with so much depth and in every dimension. He knew what life was all about. Thank you for having been around Gary, may you rest in peace !
Mr Gary Moore .....My Hero ✌️🎸 R.I.P. you LEGEND!!!!!!!!!!!!
Best guitar player that has ever lived period . He’s so good that the other top 5 players that ever lived are not even in the same league as Moore . Nobody compares .
I agree, he is many light years ahead of anyone. I tear up thinking about him as a person and his work ! He was truly a multidimensional Blues master.
it was April 14 a Friday and the venue was the biggest indoor arena in my city and on stage Gary Moore!
Gary played it all, other worldly, transported most everyone, unique in every sense and such a humble n inclusive soul 😍
One of the most powerful performances I have ever seen - Hammersmith 1984 - Incredible Show!
This IS Parisienne Walkways, although a butchered version starting at the solo.
@@EnigmaTimGaming Definitely, I just thought he'd like it with Phil's singing on x
Yes, Gary did several variations on Parisienne Walkways including a version where he sings.
One of the best, RIP Gary!! Please check out "The Messiah will come again" live - that also total magic!!
I totally agree, 100%.
the best blues guitarist ever and this was the best solo ever
Any of his appearances at the Montreux Jazz Festival will blow you away. Towards the end of this you can hear his Irish roots coming in for a short time.
Feel incredibly privileged i came across Gary Moore in my own personal musical odyssey back in late 70's. Was more of a Rory Gallagher fan but GM produced so many gems over the next 30 yrs he is/was one of my all time musical heroes 😊😊
It makes me sad that Gary seems to be getting forgotten. One of the best blues players of all time.
lol, are u for real.
My son heard me playing this song when he was about 5 years old. He ask me, dad, why is this song so sad? He got the blues at that age . Amazing!
Gary Moore. The Man. The Myth. The legend. He was one of the best blues guitarists of the modern era. Let alone Thin Lizzy. Let alone one of the best shredders in the early 80's. His cover of Shapes of Things made most shredders hang their heads like whipped dogs. The man was a Master Guitarist. Check out cuts like
The Loner
Over the Hills and Far Away
Out in the fields
Is it rock? Is it metal? Is it blues?
Like the critical drinker says "Don't know".
I just know it as GARY MOORE!!!
Every time I listen to Gary so does the entire county.
This man has cost me ten grand in blown speakers over the last fourty five years...
So far🔥
Oh man! Thanks for sharing. Gary Moore has been my top favorite guitarist since his Victims of the Future album ✌🏻
Highly recommend listening to official video of him doing Over The Hills And Far Away. Covers of that song worth listening to are done by Nightwish and by Patty Gurdy (playing an instrument you have probably never seen before).
He needed more frets to go ultrasonix ! Damn ! Gary was a killer guitarist !
Agree, Gary Moore best all time. Incredible player with feeling on every note!
Im glad you took notice on gary moore with an outstanding performance as a guitar player. RIP Gary Moore..
You know what, music, comedy and food, unites us all. Thanks for this, what a musician!
Great, soulful guitar, wonderful phrasing, nice bluesy feel. Gotta love Gary!
I have heard them all, all the best Guitar players, and after awhile get tired of them, but not Gary Moore, every time I watch his videos it is like the first time.
He was one of the best
Thanks for turning me onto Gary. I never heard of him before. I read one of the comments that he played with Thin Lizzy. I had one of their albums when I was a kid.
Who is GM? just one of the greatest guitar players in history.
Adogg, your expressions during the reaction said it all- greatness just hits your soul. Gary Moore was one of the best ever
