True story. I played a gig once and the last song of the first set was Still Got The Blues. An old woman (very hippy looking) stood a couple of feet away from me during the song. She was swaying and I thought she was either pissed or stoned but she stood there for the whole song. She introduced herself during the break and she is Gary Moore's sister in law. Her sister was Donna. She told me how they met and how she introduced him to her sister and how Gary was never the same after she left him. Her name was Kitty and she told me stories of the artists of the day. I think she was a bit of a groupie but her parting words were "Gary would have been very proud of your solo!" I went home and bawled my eyes out. Gary Is my hero and the best in my opinion. This solo is the greatest guitar performance ever! I will never forget that night. Bawling now thinking about it. RIP God

It is absolutely impossible to play guitar with any more feeling and control over their instrument, the guy was a total master of the guitar, he could play with anyone, could play anything, but nobody makes a guitar sing like Gary Moore, thank goodness we have all that we have of him available. Great video choice!

This is the greatest guitar instrumental performance of all time. I have watched this countless times, and i still get joyful tears.
Gary Moore , in my opinion , is the greatest guitarist of all time and is highly underatted.

I love Gary Moore. I love finding high quality recordings of some of his live gigs, they are every bit as interesting as this one especially when he plays Hendrix. His tone on his Red House solo from the Stratocaster 50th concert made my mind up to go and buy a Marshall Amp, a Strat and a Tube Screamer to try and get a similar sound. I cant play like him, or get the range of amazing sounds he gets, but I love the sounds I can get, such an inspiration. I think he is the greatest rock guitarist of all time IMHO.

The Lord of the Strings. My Hero. He is why I play guitar. A true virtuoso. It is sad but true that Gary was never recognised for his gift to the world. For decades here we had war and violence yet he was the one of the rare souls who chose follow his own path. To this day, and I shit you not, there are people in Belfast, his home city, who have never heard of him. Not the minority. The majority. It is a sad reflection on our past that murder and war was the daily headline news but Gary Moore is one thing we can be truly proud of. I can't imagine a day without listening to his magic.

Boosts and he knew just how to take it to the edge without blasting it.. His technique is perfect, could play any genre at the same time he had full control over his instrument, as you could see he controlled the volume and tone several times . Gary Moore is why I play guitar. 6 months after first starting to play, I knew some barre chords and a couple of positions of the minor pentatonic. I went to a guitar workshop and one of the sessions was on soloing. The instructor went around the class and had each person solo to a chord progression he played. I tried to weasel out of it because I wasn't ready but he insisted I give it a shot. When I finished, everyone was staring at me and he said, "You play like Gary Moore." I asked who Gary Moore was and he told me to get his "Still Got The Blues" and "After Hours" CDs which I listened to for hours driving back from the workshop. No, I am nowhere near the player Gary was and never will be, but I just naturally played with bending and vibrato. It's like singing. No one, and I man no one, is better than Gary at bending and vibrato.

I kind of found him when I was about 12 years old and have always found him to be the most expressive, most sustaining and one of the most original styles in guitar playing. Since first hearing him 40 years ago, I've been telling all and sundry that Gary is the epitome, nay epoch, of what an electric guitar soloist should be. He had EVERYTHING in his playing...touch, tone, fire, passion, sound, vibrato, taste, phrasing, enough speed but for all but the most militant shredder, note choice....EVERYTHING! I've heard them all, and I've been playing myself for over 40 years, and I can say in all sincerity, Gary is the only guitarist whose playing made me cry! His death was an utter tragedy for the guitar world. It's a travesty that he his rarely mentioned in the pantheon of guitar gods, because for millions of us, he was the greatest electric guitar soloist of them all. Lovely to see that you agree Mike!!

Yes buddy. So well put, his playing brought me to happy tears a few times. Makes me happy reading comments like yours, and seeing Mike react like we did watching Gary play.

I cannot speak highly enough about Gary's ability to marry touch with savagery. He's the guy that would walk onstage in a tux, then rip the sleeves off and light a flamethrower. He'll lull you in with soft touch, then split your skull with runs, sustain, and richter scale volume. He chooses violence paired with a nice Merlot. My favorite guitarist, bar none, because of the fact that he effortlessly plays Jekyll AND Hyde. Fearless, unapologetic, legendary.

I loved ur breakdown, my alltime favourite player, his dynamics were insane. He was so accomplished in creating beautiful melodies. He almost "sang" through his playing.

I was fortunate enough to see Gary Moore at his absolute peak. This is exactly why Greenie is a legendary guitar. With the best will in the world bless his soul Peter Green didn't have Gary's mastery although it pains me to say it.

Usually it’s said that the guitar is the extension of the guitar player. I always said that in Gary’s case it’s the other way around! He’s the extension of the guitar, he expresses what the guitar is “singing” and you freaking do see it in every note he plays!! And there’s nothing more to be said! Love and miss you Gary! 🎸🤟😥😇

Great video Michael. Much as I admire many guitarists, Gary Moore is my all time hero as he shows us how to just channel emotion into the guitar. I don't think it's any coincidence he bends virtually every note, it's ho you get passion into the note. RIP Gary. You will always inspire me.

Dear Michael, thanks for your expert comment. At first i thought that interrupting this Masterpiece is a big sin, but you do it with respect and your comments are very interesting indeed. Why this is the best performance ever? Not only Gary’s unbelievable technical ability and incredible band, but as a Belfast child and man and this dark history in mind “the Messiah will come again” is the highest consolation and believe there is for a peaceful live for everyone! There really is nothing higher, nothing more then this. Gary gave his all in this Magnum Opus. I had to share this with you; keep up the good work and keep having fun; greetz from Holland!

Oh man, love your comment. I totally agree with you about interrupting any great song especially during the solo, usually makes me super annoyed and anyone that knows me knows not to do it - but like you, Im totally fine with Michael doing it because he is just like us - there is so much to this song, many of his songs, so cool to find a bunch of people who like me, adore Gary still.

Mr Palmisano, you’re one of a kind. And I can’t tell you how much I appreciate all that you do. Watching you talk about these musicians has helped me slowly start to become a musician myself.. I’m 60 yrs old now... been at it (in earnest) for about 3 years now ... I quickly stopped watching the “ put your fingers here” instruction vids.. because I realized my goal with music was to make the guitar an extension of me, or an extension of my voice .. I want to “play music” not just play songs.. I’m still very much a beginner/intermediate player... but I’m starting to find my path and you’ve been so very ,very helpful to me! I can’t offer you money , as it’s all I can do to keep the house, and the lights turned on right now.... but I wanted you to know how appreciated you are! ... thank you Sir! You da man.....

I'm not even a guitar player....and that is freakin jaw-dropping! That is the kind of performance...that should be happening on a huge stage overlooking the grand canyon on a cloudless, warm, moonlit night ...with a trillion stars in the sky and meteors quietly dropping like exploding fireflies.

DUDE!!!! This is the analysis I’ve been waiting for, it was the first TH-cam video, I put in my favorites list
    My favorite guitarist EVER!!!!
Gary Moore is in the MASTER CLASS of guitarists of all time
I wanna pull my hair out (what’s left of it) when someone’s jamming to Eddie VanHalen and says “who’s Gary Moore?”
The live with Albert King, “midnight blues” is another masterfully subtle genius performance also.
No one emotes through a guitar like Gary did
    Great channel brother

Great one. I remember the first time I put on the studio version after I picked up After the War in the used bin. Still one of my favorite guitar pieces to this day. The entire track is absolutely perfection down to the finest details like dynamics and sustain.
