    I've had my Old Town PDL 106 a little over a year now. I love it, no problems with it. I do have to point out you evidently have a great sense of balance. I can stand up and cast, if I'm very careful. But I rarely do. I did put 2 inch blocks underneath the rear seat legs for a more comfortable seating angle. At 71 yrs of age, my sense of balance ain't what it used to be. Thanks for posting the video.

    what happens if you accidentally run aground? does the drive pop up?

    • @panhandlesalt
      @panhandlesalt  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not if you have it totally locked in. I keep my lock at a 1/4 turn. It tends to pop up then.

    Any regrets on not buying the 12 foot version? I hear its slower, but assume its more stable for standing and in rough water

    • @panhandlesalt
      @panhandlesalt  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You are absolutely right. Very stable, but doesn’t have the speed of the 12’. I recently bought a 12’ Salty to overcome long distances, and to use offshore. I still use the 106 90% of the time. Easier to load and manage during transport.

      @@panhandlesalt Hi I am on the fence between the 106 and the 12' Salty. I just confirm that you find the PDL106 easier to transport versus the Salty? I "cartop" and I need to factor in loading and transporting the kayak before I make my purchase. Thanks and your video is very informative!

      I don’t see the need for a bulky uncomfortable vest I’m a competent swimmer and I’ve fallen off of vessels in the most dangerous of situations(Ohio river, ocean currents, Everglades) and I’ve always been able to handle myself. If you’re younger older or uncomfortable with the current them yes

    Hey bro. I've been on the bank all my life. I started my research right before Covid. I fell in love with the Minnkota pwrd 106, in Photic. I'm 5ft 7 151 lbs. And I knew I'd want to make her my own. That hull is solid as a rock. It'll be my 1st and last, with no reason to upgrade. All around one of the best kayaks ever designed. The whole fleet, just awsone!! 🙏 🎣 Stay safe my friend.

    • @panhandlesalt
      @panhandlesalt  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I paddled for 3 years. Didn’t bother me. Then, I got the peddle and was like “ what the hell have I been waiting for ?” Free’s up the hands for a lot more cast per session. Plus, the ability to maneuver effortlessly makes the experience so much better.

    • @Motorcyclewindtherapy
      @Motorcyclewindtherapy 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@panhandlesalt thos was gonna be my question. $1000 for paddle / $2000 for peddle (and a rudder, yes) did you think it was worth it? And I'm guessing you'd answer yes.
      This video helps nail the yak for me... I've been Old Town for decades in my canoes... stability is paramount. I bought a Nucanoe Flint last year in the heart of Covid...just because there was one. I sold it for a loss after 4 trips and about 7-10 dunkings. It has very little primary stability...and by the time the secondary kicked in...it was way too late.
