World Horse Welfare Field Officer Nick White gives a graphic description of the sights, sounds and smells that confronted him as one of the first animal welfare charity employees to enter Spindles Farm, Amersham.

Thank God these poor animals are now in safe, loving hands. Well done to those people that rescued them from those terrible conditions.
I'm only at the part in the video where this wonderful man is choking up describing and talking about the enormity of the abuse. All those dead horses...I'm just crying. How can a member of the human race allow such a thing? Commit such abuse of this noble creature? Dear Lord...
I have a horse and before i got her she was so scared an mistreted but now she looks great and she runs free again

Its like they were all mourning. That's what I associate with silence. Mourning.
It is truly amazing what these horses went through and came back from. The people who rescued and cared for them are real life heroes and can't be thanked enough for all the effort and care they give. One day maybe our laws will reflect the actual crimes when it comes to punishing the abusers. I wish I could personally shake the hand and tank everyone involved in the rescue of these tortured animals.
after what i have just seen i am embarrassed to be human, that our kind could do such a think to such innocent animals as horses!

You know a horse is happy when he gallops off buckin' and fartin'! B-) For what they've got, World Horse Welfare does such an incredible job rehabilitating their rescues.
i was in tears watching this, untill that last scene - its like, 3,2,1,GO! those horses happiness made me smile so much - he said at the begining that they were silent and still, but with love and attention those two were jogging about, and galloping and bucking and whinnying,... heart warming :')

This is so horrible, those poor horses. I have horses and love them like they are my family

This is what got me into horse rescue many years ago... There is a lot of equine abuse in my state of residency.
I love how happy the two horses were when they were set out in the field :)

Breaks my heart that anyone would treat any kind of animal that way..and maximum punishment should be in order ..So happy the rest of them have a happy life and frolic and be free spirited as a horse should be allowed to be ..A healthy ..content and happy horse is a good horse and the rewards for well taken care of horse are immeasurable..

I saw this video once and never forgot it.The images,knowing how those poor horses suffered,and the field officer unable to speak for a few moments,nearly breaking down right there.The look of incomprehension,that anyone would let something like that go on.I know he must have seen some bad cases before,and since,but he won't ever forget how awful this case was.Ever.
THIS IS SO SAD, I CAN'T BELIEVE PEOPLE CAN DO THIS, The footage of the dead horses just made me furious about it, i wanted to be sick. People are cruel to these AMAZING animals.
There's 2 parts of a horse rescue that truly makes me cry. The 1st is when they're taking the horses to a safe haven 2nd is when they turn the horses out in a beautiful field/ paddock and the horses start running and bucking playfully! They're at each end of the emotion scale but what a wonderful way to end the hell they've been put in and left to rot/ die! I love the ending of the rescue videos!!!

to do that to an animal shows a lack of civilization in a person. A persons goodness can be judged by the treatment of the treatment of their beasts. there was obviously no good in these horses original owner.
They are known as psychopaths.
the man in the beige jacket who was walking into the Magistrates Court, the abuser, was the one my Father bought my very first horse off, and he has grown to be a star, he was bony and weak, and he was only a yearling, but now, we can do Pleasure Rides on him, Fancy Dress, spray him green on halloween, jump him, ride him, do school fair rides on him, hes so fantastic and I love him to pieces
Man. My horses had a barn better than my house! well feed. treats. places to run. wormed and vaccines and teeth cared for. This junk makes me sick. God bless those that help them.
I've never heard a silent stable, either. It was the sound of Horse Hell.

It's so lovely to see how those two horses in the end are bucking and running around. It's like they came to heaven :)
Thank God the World Horse Welfare exists to try and rehabilitate these poor creatures. I hope the people responsible are jailed for such neglect.

This is where i want to make a difference.
It was so sad to watch. I almost cried when I saw the carcasses. All horses deserve a happy life. They deserve to meet all their 5 needs and freedoms.
How to look after a horse:
1- Feed
2- Muck out, do hay net, water and full health check including faeces and urine
3- Ride
4- Clean tack
5- Groom horse
6- Wash horse
7- Get farrier to trim hooves time to time
8- Get a vet if you find ill health
9- Turn out at right time
10- Give tea
11- Safety checks
12- Check horse passport and also do safety checks. Get vet over to worm and vaccinate horse.
I will never understand why anyone would get a horse just to ignore, mistreat or not feed and care for it. Thank God for organizations like this one that saves these animals from ignorance and cruelty. I hope the person responsible was given heavy fines and jail time!
My mind can't wrap around that. Him saying the horses being silent struck me as the worse. At the barn I go to the only time the horses, and donkeys, are quiet is if their asleep or eating. And I will say we do feed them a little too well. But outside of that the horses are content as clams.
Why pixel their faces? Show the cowards face!

NEVER break the Spirit of a horse. They are strong, bold, and majestic.
Though I wasn't born a country girl and been around with horses often enough, IF I am capable and able, I would help these beautiful creatures and many other animals.
Such silence shall be quelled and broken so that the Voices of Nature shall be heard again, through horses. :)

What did the former owner do with the horses? What was his original purpos in owning so many horses that he could not take care of them? 🤔

I can't understand how people can treat animals like that. It is really sad.
If I even meet anyone who can do such a thing, I will go all out. I've grown up with horses since I was born, and have ridden since I was 4. Horses have been very soothing for me, and why repay what joy they can bring with utter abuse?
I've never understood how people could see this every day and not realise there is anything wrong? Horses really don't deserve this!
I think that the punishments for the people who do this or simply allow these poor animals to exist and die in such a way are completely inadequate. Simply fining and banning people from keeping horses again is not enough and sadly it is too difficult to enforce these bans. Seeing the poor animals lying dead and left to rot is heartbreaking, sometimes the cruelty of humans is just unamaginable
One chestnut looks like another until you get to know them. The numbers also help prove in court that the footage is of the same horse. Unfortunately in this case they were also needed to tell one skeleton from another. :(
Can you get those kind of horse truck/trailers in the U.S.?

What was going on at Spindles Farm. Why didn't the whole of the Family ask for help if they could not cope with the amount of animals that they had??? Those horses were in filthy conditions and there were those that were dead and decomposed. This is the most shocking case I have ever heard about. I hope that the Family do not ever look after animals again. They should be fined, jailed and make sure that they never ever look after animals again. They are the most evil people.
this is monstrous...where were the people that owned the stable and the horses? thats so horrible, the poor horses. i loved the part at the end where the horses were kicking up their heels and frolicking!
I agree with you but I also have to remind you of a few child welfare cases that were overlooked. Baby P, for one.
Sadly, not enough people care about the suffering from every species in this world.

Why they have numbers ?
I can't even imagine except that I know first hand, my Daelite was a rescue, she rescued herself. She went from 1100# to 400# in a moth due to no food. After a court battle she came to live with me and owned my for 22 years before I had to lay her down.

Question. In the USA people send horses of to auction barns for Slaughter. They are not held responsible for the treatment or condition the horse is in. Do you have a market that buys horses? Neither are proper and sadly no one has figured out a way to stop this. Is there a way to stop over breeding I miss use of horses?
Kudos to all the good work ya do.. If only pro slaughter folks would educate themself that slaughter, abuse, neglect is NOT the answer..

I think that the Family should be banned from ever owning or caring an Animal ever again. They should be banned for life. They treated those Horses with disrespect and with no dignity. This is shameful and hope anyone who is like them should stop and think that Animals have feelings and need care as well as humans.

I would of loved to have heard how much this guy got fined for doing this horrific thing to his horses. I hope the judge came down on him real hard
if we were as sick as those abusers we would do the same to them as they have done to these horses . Let them starve and suffer in filth. let them thirst because there is no water. The penalties are never severe enough for these sickos. Cheers for those brave rescuers. God bless from ontario canada
I have already said this…but I hate people. How could someone just let a bunch of horses suffer and die. That's just disgusting, I treat my horse better than I treat some people.
HORSES ARE SENTIENT BEINGS LIKE HUMAN BEINGS. MISTREATMENT OF HORSES SHOULD BE CONSIDERED EXACTLY THE SAME AS CRUELTY TO HUMAN BEINGS AND THE SAME PENALTY SHOULD BE APPLIED.
Anybody who owns large areas of land keeps animals should be watched carefully. Some of these people think they can do whatever they want on their land and they can easily get away with animal cruelty for far too long.
This just makes me so angry! How can people do this to animals. Poor horseys :( I hope they are all better and re homed now :)

Any person that could ever abuse any animal, especially the beautiful spiritual create the horse, deserves to burn in hell. They have no right to be alive any more. This is extremely sad. Me being a horse owner of 3 horses, I know the feeling of love and bond between us. How anyone could break that bond, or make them suffer like that.... Its just a horrifying thought.

It seems like some people uses horses as currency and don't have them because they like horses and want to care and love them. It's appouling to see the owners lack of empathy. The whole family should be benned from dealing with animals forever.

54 ....I want to steal that poor little Fjord. I would steal tham all if possible, but that little thing would be first :( It's sickening to see these horses like this. I see alot of skinny horses at the farm I work at b/c it's a rescue, but rarely are there skinny PONIES......ponies are so easy to keep weight on if you don't work them, and these were just skin and bones! It's simply Apawling.
Yes they were. They're not protected though. They wer shown on TV leaving the courts laughing and sticking their fingers up to all the cameras. Lovely people who should be put away for life. I'd love to rescuse one of these to keep with my own pony.

I had to stop watching halfway through. I don't understand how cruel you have to be to allow so many innocent animals, so many friends, to die in such a painful, evil way.
Why have so many horses? That you can't take care of?
