The maggots had been eating on her mom's dead flesh, and started eating into the babies clean flesh. The maggots had even crawled into her navel, where her umbilical cord was off. The baby deer approached my sister, crying for help. My sister had to pick the maggots from the babies side, and tweeze the maggots from her navel, coaxing the maggots to the surface with cream. The baby lived, and grew to be a beautiful, and spoiled doe. When released into the woods, she would still return to my sisters house, and bum bread. She had eventually brought a skittish friend with her. Possibly a future mate. Raising the deer, and seeing her have a chance at life, was truly a blessed experience. It was just pitiful, that the baby was in so much pain, that she sought a human, for help. 💖
It was probably actually the maggots that kept him in there for as long as he was; without them, he likely would have succumbed to blood poisoning or similar way before he was found. Poor lump

REALLY, people are CLEARLY just parroting what they've heard. That poor baby pony was in excruciating pain literally being eaten alive by those worms. Foals are delicate, they can't b left like on their own that, because THIS is th shit that happens to them

He wasn't being "eaten alive by maggots"...... maggots only feed on dead/decayed matter. They maggots actually helped keep the wound clean and most likely saved the pony's life.

Thank you for helping this poor being. I called the Humane Society on Maui for a horse that I started to feed goat feed to because it was starving. They took it.

Actually, folks, flies are drawn to filth, and the smell , and lay their maggots there, to eat. And then, the maggots do start to eat the filth, and the dead flesh... But, guess what...The maggots don't stop there. They eat, through the filth, and on into the clean flesh, until the victim succumbs to the damage, and blood loss. So yes, as many maggots as were on him, they were eating on him too.
If only the same were true for the trillions of other earthlings being slaughtered for food. Since we absolutely can live happy, healthy lives without harming others.....why wouldn't we? Peace.
Its sad how humanity takes beauty and abuses it, once done the beauty is gone and we are left with an empty shell. Its just unimaginable what these animals go through!

Medical maggots; that's maggots that have been allowed to develop in controlled conditions are used under supervision to remove infected tissue when other treatments have failed. However, its time consuming because the nurse has to remove the maggots as soon as they appear full and replace them with fresh maggots. In other words, the patient cannot be left for the duration of the procedure.
when I grow up I would love to work for you guys. I love horses so much and I just hate to see them I pain, it's heart breaking. I want to help them from slaughter and abuse.. I want to help stop animal abuse but u also want to help them and rescue them
Whoever left this beautiful precious pony like that without any help, care or attention, is vile and pure evil. I have always seen horses as a luxury, that is a real privilege to even own one, and yet there are these sc*mmy person/s who just leave them to get in such a state and don't give a toss. Some say karma is real and yes that could well be the case as know one knows what's around the corner.

True. maggots only eat dead flesh anyway, and wounds cant improve if dead flesh isnt removed
Maggots also secrete an antibiotic so that would help the wounds he had.
