Under the radar horse smuggling leaves horses vulnerable to all kinds of abuse. These are not just horses that have been bred by criminal gangs. They are family pets that have been acquired under false pretences. They are ex-sports horses sold on when they can no longer compete to what their owners thought would be safe homes. They are unwanted youngsters who have no future as ridden horses so face a lifetime of abuse.

Slaughtering horses is just heartbreaking to me. As well as cats and dogs being slaughtered in China for the same reasons.
I'm Italian, and here, traditionally, people eat horse meat. Still, I don't understand how they can. I agree, it's like eating dogs, as horses are so intelligent! I had this discussion few days ago. In a tv cooking show, someone presented a horse meat stew, but one of the judges got scandalized and refused to eat! And I do agree with what is said about organized crime. It is probably true.

Can you imagine being a horse like this. Your whole life you have been treated as a vehicle so someone can win a race, then when they consider you retired they sent you to the slaugtherhouse like you were never there. Awful.
While this IS disgusting, humans who breed animals even for the best of intentions and reasons, the supply ALWAYS overshoots the Demands! I feel guilty as an animal lover, pet owner to indirectly contribute to this horror! Animals need money and upkeep and it can be very expensive. For such reasons, the hapless 'extras' can land up in the worst situations...
I read somewhere that Queen Elizabeth's horses were sold after her passing. Is this true? Does anyone know who purchased them and where they are?
Putting in a CCTV to the slaughter house where they unload the horses would be where we could see how many and which horses are getting taken in. Ex race horses. Ex show horses and the like.
It’s so sad because a lot of these horses UK and USA are just unlucky… economy has made it very difficult to afford care and left people without much choice. By no means am I saying this is okay because it definitely isn’t!!!

Until the demand is gone, it will always happen. It personally makes me nauseous to think of horse slaughter. It’s time for a shame campaign against those who eat the meat. Same with dogs and cats. These are domesticated animals for pets and recreation.
Even the ones I own now can they just be stolen and sent to slaughter
