An animal abuser has been sentenced after a shocking 1½ hour-long attack on a foal was caught on CCTV.
Six-month old skewbald foal, Faith, was beaten in her stable by Sean McWhinnie, while the distressed animal’s owner looked on unconcerned. Unbeknown to the abusers, the whole incident was caught on the yard’s CCTV camera.
Ever since, little Faith has been recovering at World Horse Welfare’s Glenda Spooner Rescue and Rehoming Centre in Somerset.

There's something wrong with people who abuse animals. And for the owners to sit outside and do nothing is shameful. My heart is broken.

45 minutes he beat for. How the hell do these people think beating her was going to win her trust. I can't believe the people outside her box did nothing to stop it. Thank god she's safe. I feel sick watching it

It said this Sean Mcwhinnie was her brother,.he was also punching that foal, and wrestling it to the ground..Other news said last Oct. he burned his Stepson's tent, and tried to chase at him with his motorbike..

The fines, prison time, and bans on ownership are not enough. All involved should have been charged with more severe sentences, fines, and bans on ownership, and all involved should have been subjected to the same physical abuse this poor baby was subjected to. This poor baby suffered immeasurably.
The news said that was his Sister the owner,.In the news it says Sean McWhinnie also punched out trhe baby foul's face, wrestled the foul too,.This guy is a real sicko,.Should see other news about this guy,.from u.k. he also in October went at his Stepson with a motorbike, and burned down his tent..

Disgusting behaviour from the man and the owner who sat and watched it. I am so angry. The sentencing is NOT a deterrent to others. When will someone update our criminal justice system? I am SO glad you were able to step in and rescue this foal. I hope Faith will always now have love in her life. Bless her.

The male aggressor received a lifetime ban from keeping animals but is he restricted from working with animals he does not own?

one of them was the owner the older one and yes she was banned from all animals too, sadly not enough punishment..

The only one deserving a whipping is that guy, in a stall with no escape, and maybe a few lashings at those girls too for just sitting there. I believe in equal punishment for the crime in this instance.

I sometimes think that if someone is capable of beating a horse like that, what else are they capable of. The laws relating to horses, or any animals, welfare are pathetic, no more than a slap on the hand.

Foal or full grown, no horse does anything to deserve a beating. Sometimes horses (the young ones too), will challenge a person, but I tell my students you have 3 seconds to issue a reprimand. Get in, get out, and forgive. Move on. If you can’t do it before the 3 seconds is up, the horse won’t even know why you’re reprimanding it; because they’ve already moved on in their minds to something else. This is how they are with each other most of the time.
If someone doesn’t have the skills to handle a particular horse, then they shouldn’t even attempt to touch them.
I tell my horsemanship students all the time: “everyone who interacts with a horse is training it. The question is, are they training with positive results or negative results?”
Even a LOT of well meaning people teach horses bad behaviors because they don’t understand how horses think or behave so they either anthromoporphize them or treat them like they aren’t thinking and feeling individuals and the horse doesn’t respect them as a fair leader.
Another scenario is that the person is afraid and the horse knows it, so depending on the horses natural bent towards fearful or confident themselves, it either tries to be in control to the point that they start getting pushy, or they don’t trust the fearful handler to keep them save and they go into hyper vigilant mode and hurt the person with their flight responses.
Some people think they are loving (actually spoiling) their horses and then they get hurt by the horse because it doesn’t respect them as a leader. I’ve worked with horses who have had all these types of owner/handler problems. Very few ever needed much more than some patient persistence with respectable boundaries in a quiet and consistent manner.

What a disgrace. The owners and the man who beat her ought to each serve a lot more time than five months. They should serve the properly allotted time that would be required under British law for beating a child. In other words, many years. This is wrong in every way.
I'm glad that Faith is in good hands now. She needs to be able to enjoy her life freely as any living creature should, out of harm's way.

This was extremely hard to watch, I can't comprehend how anyone could hurt an innocent animal over human error & lack of knowledge. They should all be in prison for 2-5 years & lifetime animal ownership ban for all.

There's alot of sick people in this world and this is two of them. Prayers for Faith's recovery and a loving home. The justice system needs an overhaul on animal abuse cases.
Why did they suspend the sentence if that was a human beating another human they would be in jail for a long time it's so frustrating that they think animals don't deserve the same justice if anything they deserve more we choose them they don't choose us therefore we must protect them at all costs! My take? That court sentence was basically saying they don't mind people beating animals. I've always felt that monsters who abuse others should receive the same treatment they inflict on their helpless victims. That, to me, would be justice. That sick human being should be beaten with a halter for 45 minutes. Then he might think twice before doing that to another living being. As it stands now, he can continue to inflict pain and suffering with no real penalty. SAD.

I refuse to watch this video. The title and few seconds of film seen, make it very clear that whoever that man is he should be jailed for life. He is a danger to all living beings and the public should be protected. Therefore: Life in prison for this piece of scum. And I hope the foal will find a truly patient and loving person to help him /her get over the trauma.

I agree, someone was beating a BABY. I have watched Barry Hook for horse training and those New Forest ponies are wonderful little animals. Glad you all were able to work with her on healing her of the trauma.
That reduced me to tears, poor sweet baby. How can that ever be a way to train any animal. The guy and the 2 watching i wouldnt call human. I would be locking them all up im afraid 😢
Having been around horses most of my life, I have seen this horse breaking method, unfortunately, many times! The theory, if there actually is one, is to break the horses spirit and make them fear you! According to these proponents, the horse will be afraid not to do your will. However the cruelty is unbelievable! One man I knew would frequently put his barrel racing horse through this torture, and on one occasion blinded the horse in one eye! This has been many years ago, but I hope the karma this man received was twice as horrible as that he subjected his horses to!

Faith is extremely beautiful and those individuals who hurt her are pure evil and that includes the so called owner. The sentencing should have been far higher.

What happened to that baby was awful. It gives me great hope though to see her just hanging out with you in the stall without fear and allowing to be touched gently.
I agree that this was absolutely awful. This man and the owner need to have lessons on how to treat animals - under strict supervision - muck out stalls - in addition to the sentences received. I hope Faith not only gains faith in humans again but also finds a wonderful home where the memory of her beating will probably still be in her mind but she knows she is safe now for the rest of her life. A beautiful little pony.

The sentence is far too lenient. The guy should be put in prison immediately upon conviction, banned from ever owning any animal, and community service after release. The owner should never be allowed to own any animal and should be doing months of community service at animal rescue facilities under strict supervision.🤬

The foal's owner allowed this? And it was only found out and reported b/c of the CCTV? (I assume that whoever saw this CCTV and reported it would have, if they'd been there, STOPPED it. I would've called the police, have twice done over dogs being beaten.) So I wonder how many other foals and horses has this man attacked before. Where there weren't cameras and anyone around who cared enough. This owner seemed to think this was "training" the way she sat there nervously allowing it. Makes me think this guy had a rep for working with horses and has likely hurt more, but w/o footage only the (liable) owners probably would know.
Good to see the foal is doing well, though the way she looks around with those whale eyes...probably going to have lifelong issues because of this abuse. It's a damn shame that STILL so many people in the horse world believe abusive "breaking" is better than gentle handling that, in reality, is much easier, safer and produces FAR better results.
