  • Recently I bought myself the Fuji X100T for a couple of specific trips that include my recent trip to Tibet and now that I’m back I want to give some of my opinions on the camera and see if some of the reasons why I bought it held up in reality.

    On the highlights and shadows; it really depends on how you have the highlights and shadows set. If you have them set at 0 or less (-1 or -2) then you can be fooled into thinking you get more dynamic range than you really will.
    I tend to "shoot for the highlights" and then raise the shadows in Lightroom.

    7:29 you can also attribute it to using the EVF all the time. When using the OVF you're not forcing the sensor to be always active.

    I will say, I've been using my 35mm prime (50mm equivelent) for many months now on my GH4 (mainly I do videography) and from that alone I've learned SO much more about lenses and how different focal lengths look. The wider you get, the more spherical. The further you zoom, the flatter. You start to develop an eye..

    Use JPEG with ISO 800(or higher) and auto dynamic range 400% and the camera will capture high contrast scenes with perfectly exposed shadows and highlights. I used to shoot RAW until I discovered this.

      Serak1977 just tried this, and it works! Thank you. I’ll try it for a while and see how it goes, but on the back of the camera it looks great.

    I still have the X100 first gen. I shoot mostly manual, even street and can't see any justification for the steep cost of the upgrade --at least here in Mexico where the currency suffered a severe devaluation.

    I just bought a used X100 (good condition, 230 quid) as a companion camera to my D750. Love it! Autofocus is quite speedy on FW 2.0, can't hold a candle to my D750 but it's great for a second camera.

    I also have an X100T. I find that the film simulations are too harsh and I lose all of the detail in the shadows, and sometimes the highlights.
    They won't become the answer or alternative to custom RAW post processing. Some people have claimed that they haven't needed to post process as much but fixed presets cannot seem to compete (for me). The beauty of this camera shines when I shoot in RAW.

    Having had the original X100 and I still have the XPro1, battery life is far from being perfect. I tend to carry three fully charged batteries with me when out an about. I'm not noted for being a machine gun addict so I can generally get away with two of them for a days shoot. I start with my first battery and then when I stop for lunch at midday I change to a fresh battery for the afternoon shoot regardless of how much is left in the earlier one. It works for me! I'm now considering the X100T to use as my 23mm (35mm) lens combo with the XPro1. It certainly looks like a good one to have in the bag.

    Hi Craig,
    Really like your videos, keep them coming. A couple of things I would like to raise with you connected to this video are as follows; Firstly, do you not think at a fixed 35mm this is just a very expensive, very sexy looking, fashion accessory? surely there are much better, flexible options??
    Secondly, on a more general note, I find the reviews of CSC's in general miss one crucial point, and that is the limitation on lenses. In particular, the fact that the longest lens I have seen is 230mm and most are less than that! I feel that this should be made very clear, particularly to the beginners that are looking to get into photography and may not realise this!! Everything seems to revolve around 18-55mm, but there is way more than that and CSC;s are just not up to the job!!
    Look forward to hearing from you.
    Jim

    Nice review. I also get frustrated with the camera being switched on in my bag.
    I got in the habit of flipping the battery over and putting it back in if I'm not going to be using the camera for a while (while it's in the bag)

    Hey Craig, I just found your channel through this video. I was wondering if I could get your advice on something. I am starting university in august and I will have academic travel around the world each semester. I'm saving up and looking to upgrade my current dslr which is beginning to give me trouble from use, the Canon T3i/600D. I bought the kit lens 18-55mm and the 70-300mm telephoto with it when I started. I was considering the Fujifilm x100t because of it's small lightweight features which will be handy as a lot of the academic travel will include hiking and a lot of walking. As I'm sure you know from experience, DSLR's tend to get pretty heavy on the shoulder's or around the neck. I don't mind it's only got one focal length, i can live with that. But the thing that has me holding back is it's expensive price at an average $1,100.00 US. Should I instead invest in the Canon 6D and the canon 50mm F1.4 for a couple hundred dollars more? I would have to deal with it being larger but I would be getting a full frame sensor for high quality pics. What are your thoughts? Depending on the travel assignment per semester i would also be carrying the telephoto. Thank you

    I am going on a gap year very soon and want to bring a decent camera with me. I have been thinking either the Fuji flim x30 or x100T. Obviously the price difference is a key factor but what do you think will be more worth it?

    • @10399alex
      @10399alex 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Leo Stewart If you're of with a fixed lens the x100t is amazing. If you'd rather have a zoom, the Panasonic LX100 is your best bet (rather than the x30). Personally I have a x100s along with my dslr kit and I love it.

    I shoot with an Olympus E-M1, and I have grown to rely heavily on the excellent in-body stabilization. I've been very interested in the X100T, but it's my understanding that it has no image stabilization, either in-body or in the lens. Did you have any difficulties because of this, particularly in low light?

      +Juan Cisneros Might check your auto focus (AF Mode) settings. If you are not in area focus mode, but rather in multi focus mode, then the small focus window down at the bottom of the OVF will not come on. Switch to area focus and it will be there.

      +priz05 Good question......I do all my street work with my old GRD IV until I switched over to the GR II. It was working great until during a convention the camera started to act on me. One thing it didn't stay on any at all. I had to keep switching it on and off to get it going at all. Needless to write I returned it to B and H for a credit. To be honest I really like the GR very much over the Fuji. The jpegs/Raw, the color and B + W are great on this camera. I like how it fits in my hands.......... but will I buy another one? ........I think so. If you'd like to exchange ideas. Please feel free to let me know. I'd enjoy reading your ideas about the GR II.

    • @planthi80
      @planthi80 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +priz05 Another thing is that Richo doesn't have such wonderful web-sites dedicated to the GR as Fuji has.

    • @priz05
      @priz05 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +planthi80 yes thats one thing i noticed that the Ricoh Website sucks! not much content etc on there, also try to get accessories for the camera seems to be a struggle. at the moment my ricoh GR seems to be working fine. Im thinking if i can pick up a x100s for cheap i may keep both, do you know if theres much difference with the 100s and 100t. both look like stunning cameras, but i know the ricoh has great reviews all over.

    • @planthi80
      @planthi80 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +priz05 Yeah, dude the Fuji site is very dedicated to the X100T unlike Richo. Right you are again about getting parts for the Richo........it's just a struggle. As to the difference between the Fuji's? All I can tell you that the AF is better on the new version along with a handful of other minor improvements. As of yet I'm not sure what to do. My plans are to call Richo about my concerns. As you can see even on youtube there are more reviews of the X100T as compared to the GRII. More site on line and Fuji's site gives you the that Leica feeling....like you have a serious instrument.

    • @planthi80
      @planthi80 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +priz05 Another point of interest is that some of the sales persons at B and H that the battery gets used up quickly. (X100T) So you need to buy a few extras to complete the day. Also another point they make is that X100T is more reliable with great customer support to boot. One thing comes to mind about the Fuji is that it reminds me of when I had a Leica M6 ttl. The Fuji when decked out is very nice to look at and hold. What do you think?

      ***** Thanks craig. Aiyeon the X-T1 is a much bigger camera that has interchangeable lenses.
      The only thing that is similar between the X100T and X-T1 is the sensor, other than that they're very different.

    • @aznkid248
      @aznkid248 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @clarencelaboranti4835
      @clarencelaboranti4835 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Spot on. In the case of not having access to a film camera, I would shoot DNG all the way and then try out a VSCO preset, or just manually process each file. For authentic results however, I would reach for a nice roll of film, develop and then scan.
