I hope you can fit a quick answer in. After watching miles of tutorials I am struggling to get the basics of cut and drag function on my timeline. How to cut both video and audio in one stroke, and how to create dissolve transitions which dissolve both video and audio in the transition. My question is how is my setup incorrect since video and audio do not cut, ripple and transition as one?
The "Close Up" button is great! However, there seems to be some 'subtlety' if the footage doesn't match the project/timeline. For example, I'm editing 4096x2160 source in a 1280x720 timeline and the zoom in doesn't seem to happen. I think it has to do with the Scaling option you've chosen in the Project Settings (or on the clip), i.e., Fit vs Center no crop. This beta-2 so maybe it's a bug. Certainly not 'magic' at this stage. If you're working on the extended tutorial, something to watch out for.
Hi Edward. It is using the Neural Engine to intelligently place the face at good position. if the face is too close to start with then it wont do a close up. Hope that helps.
@@timvommeer9660 I don't use FCP X but hear its similar. I think the cut page is so useful for assembly then into edit page to fine tune, not sure how FCP X deals with that - Resolve gives you 2 editors essentially. Thanks for your thoughts.

Really Good walk through, Darren. I like the pace and the quality of the information presented. I'm coming from Kdenlive and just learning Resolve, so I find this type of information a tremendous help. Thanks for putting this together!
Been back to this again as didn't grasp it all first time. Will no doubt need to come back yet again. Thanks for this and all your other tutorials. They're really helpful.
Thank you for the Cut Page Overview. Lots to do there, and I'm basically a cuts only show with some inserts, I'll concentrate on the Cut Page for most of my work. Keyboard shortcuts really help understand the basic needs to get working faster and better. I'll really be concentrating on learning the icons and getting them committed to memory.
Watching videos such as this one, it is REALLY nice that an ad doesn't pop up every 3 minutes that breaks my concentration. Fantastic job Big D! Subbed.
Thanks. Yes I switch off that extra revenue stream as I don't like it when I watch other videos. Darren Mostyn Hi Darren, your first ‘First Grade Sony A7Siii’ vídeo popped up so I watched that. I’ve watched quite a few videos on this camera so I guess that’s why it appeared.
Wow, what a great tutorial. This completely changes how I look at the cut page and how I will be using Resolve. I am still struggling with it though. Strange things do happen from time to time but that might also have to do with me combining 25, 29.97 and 50 fps footage from different cameras all into one 24 fps project. I guess that's what happens when you quickly grab a few cameras and start filming without taking the time to prepare things properly
Still not convinced that the cut page would improve my workflow. I might give it a go in the future again as my first tries I went quickly to the edit page again. Thank you for the tutorial. You are really teaching useful content.
Fantastic tutorial, thanks. I wish I had have looked into the cut page a year ago. I've been editing self filmed employees' videos describing their job for over a year and this will make it much quicker. Jumps cuts and lack of b-roll have been my problem and it has been so fiddly in the edit page. Thanks again.
Excellent tutorial, after year of using resolve free version and following you, now when my speed editor is in transit along with my studio version I can finally get every bit of what you just described, years of experience in half an hour, and it's only the tip of the icebrg, kudos to you and wish you loads of success and happiness. 🎉❤
What a fantastic presentation! Clear, lots of valuable insights for beginners and just the right tempo. Love it! Actually began working with Resolve last week but the learning curve CAN be quite fast - also thanks to you. Well, I am well aware that it's a masterfully complex suite - but I'll keep the enthusiasm. Keep up the great work!
You are surely an expert with DR. One thing I didn't see addressed in this is the audio. What happens when I drop various camera sources that don't have good audio in them. How is dropping clips in the cut page affecting the master audio track?
Very well done, Darren. No wasted intro minutes getting to the tutorial. No BS'ing around like many other tutorial makers on TH-cam. Thank you for respecting our time and intelligence.

Thank You so much Darren. I was facing difficulties and you made it easy peazy. Thanks a lot for the video.
So... I recently got Davinci and have been watching a lot of editing how to videos... your video actually is making me excited to start my edit process! Thank you so much for putting this out! It is so helpful! Can't wait to watch your other videos!
Glad I could help!
the rightclick on the playhead to select all after or before clips was a feature i was searching for a while and the closeup got a new perspective too! thanks!
TBH I only found it recently too - it was by accident! Happy to share. All the best, Darren.
Close up is great tool. Often shown in tutorials as just a zoomed in view on an edit, but for my money - beating a jump cut is far more useful!
Holy cow! Great information. And with 18.5, they've added additional features. I'm going to have to watch this again and set up some clips of my own to follow along with.
Really Good walk through, Darren. I like the pace and the quality of the information presented. I'm coming from Kdenlive and just learning Resolve, so I find this type of information a tremendous help. Thanks for putting this together!
Glad it was helpful!
Been back to this again as didn't grasp it all first time. Will no doubt need to come back yet again. Thanks for this and all your other tutorials. They're really helpful.
watch as many times as you need - its solid info! You can watch at 75% speed I think?
I only switch it on for the live stream if you watch it non-live as I get about 10 ads appearing over that time and they are more relaxed anyway. Thanks for the subscription - appreciated. Im live on Monday at 7pm GMT if you are around.
@@DarrenMostyn That attitude in itself is as worthy as your instructional vids! I wish more TH-camrs approached it in that way. Keep up the great work! I'll be soaking it all in on what you have to offer (coming from FCPX).
I'm not in this for the money I get from adsense believe me! Works out about 10p an hour!!! Im doing a live on Monday at 7pm GMT if you are around.
Very good at showing detail items in using Resolve Cut Page.
Thanks John.
Thank you so much, I was making that mistake.
Glad I could help
Slogging my way through learning DR, this video is great.
Oh my days!! I use the Cut page to start my edit but I did not know all these wonderful tools shortcuts!! Hands down Darren you’re the best at explaining how to get the full use of DaVinci Resolve! Thank you thank you thank you!!
You are so welcome! Thank you Michael
for swapping right use shortcut key ctrl+shift+, and for left ctrl+shift+.
Im in the cuting page right now with a new project for my YT, thank you for this!
Great. let me know how you get on with it!
@@DarrenMostyn I've done alot of work I the cut section. I think most cutting can be done there. Now I'll adjust some speed of the clips which I do in edit page and also add some subtitles. In cut section I did the in and out then F9 to add all my clips. Went very smooth! Cutting is an endless job, never pleased enough:D
Thank you Darren - I believed that the cut page is useless... until I found your video!! Fantastic explanation.
Glad it was helpful! It seems to be having a second life at the moment. Must be being suggested a lot by TH-cam?
OHHHH!! The cut page works a lot like the magnetic timeline in FCPX! That's the one thing I missed when switching to Premiere Pro! Excited for this :D
I’ve been a little apprehensive about using cut page but I’m actually looking forward to it now. I discovered your channel yesterday and this is seriously good content, delivered with the aura and confidence of a Harley Street doctor. Nice, pace, nice voice, perfect studio, sound and lighting.
Thank You Dan. Glad to have you on board. The Cut Page is great but use with the Edit page swell. Plenty more episodes coming. Do you mind if I ask how you found my channel..? With it being new I'm trying to see where the traffic is coming from. Thank you for your kind comments. All the best, Darren
Darren Mostyn Hi Darren, your first ‘First Grade Sony A7Siii’ vídeo popped up so I watched that. I’ve watched quite a few videos on this camera so I guess that’s why it appeared.
@@danquixote6072 Thank you for letting me know. All the best, Darren.
Such a helpful and densely packed short video! Thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
Man. You made it posible that I understand all the benefits of the cut page. Now all makes sense ;) Thanks.
Hi Lobos. Glad to hear it all makes sense. All the best, Darren.
Still not convinced that the cut page would improve my workflow. I might give it a go in the future again as my first tries I went quickly to the edit page again. Thank you for the tutorial. You are really teaching useful content.
Go for it! Give it a try on a non critical job! Once you get it you'll love it
I love the shortcuts shown.
thanks
The best tutorial on EDIT PAGE with everything important, an especially it is in detail! thank
Glad it worked for you. Appreciated.
You're very welcome! Cut page is well overlooked in general and Im using it right now!
One of the best TH-cam videos. Thanks
Glad you think so!
Excellent tutorial, after year of using resolve free version and following you, now when my speed editor is in transit along with my studio version I can finally get every bit of what you just described, years of experience in half an hour, and it's only the tip of the icebrg, kudos to you and wish you loads of success and happiness. 🎉❤
Glad it helped! Thanks for letting me know - always apprecited! Darren
I can only repeat myself again and again: breathtakingly useful stuff! Thanks a lot, as always.
Thank you Will !
Keep up the great work!
enjoy the journey - take it one step at a time! Its a beast!
thats just what i was looking for! ..cutting the portion at the beginning. so fundamental :)
I'm late to the party but learned a lot from watching this tutorial. Thank you very much for making the video.
You are surely an expert with DR. One thing I didn't see addressed in this is the audio. What happens when I drop various camera sources that don't have good audio in them. How is dropping clips in the cut page affecting the master audio track?
all pages are linked so any audio adjust you do in any page is carried through.
You’re giving us so much with your videos. Thank you so much and hope you keep on feeding us!!
Hi Thomas. Thank you and glad they work for you, All the best, Darren.
Very well done, Darren. No wasted intro minutes getting to the tutorial. No BS'ing around like many other tutorial makers on TH-cam. Thank you for respecting our time and intelligence.
Andy - exactly why i started this channel - respecting your time and intelligence! could use that as a slogan! Got so frustrated, I started my own channel (after doing an an app to make it EVEN easier for 4 years)! All the best, Darren. The app is dead now BTW.
Great!! First day editing in Resolve and I'm already cracking along!
Thank you so much for this! Premiere user just moving to Resolve, and was really frustrated by it until I saw this video. It really allowed me to start working in a meaningful way. I was in timeline, trying to mimic Premiere but the cut page is great!
At last…a Cut Page like!! It’s so underrated! Glad to have you on board, Darren
@@DarrenMostyn Out of the many yt vids on Resolve out there, this was the one that suddenly flicked on the light. Ah-ha! THAT'S how it works! Look forward to digesting all your vids!
I ignored the cut page coming from Adobe a while ago. I figured I should finally look into it. Good video. I wish it had two screens.
Glad it was helpful!
Amazing video and to the point, you CUT my video editing time by half! Thanks so much.
Best Cut Page video I've watched, thanks for doing this :)
This is a fantastic tutorial, well done. I mostly use Adobe for video but I'm slowly moving over to Davinci Resolve.
I find the cut tab quite bewildering and disorientating, but I'm getting used to it.
YOur lectures and tutorials are spot on amazing! Thank you
Glad you like them! Thank you
These videos are changing my life! Thank you
Wow. Thank you! Appreciate the feedback.
