    You are an absolute legend. After 10+ years of editing professionally and trying desperately to ditch Premiere, my struggles with multicam clips in Resolve have been unending. In this video that I originally watched just to learn more about the Speed Editor, you dropped the magic nugget of syncing multicam clips AFTER editing.... unbelievable. Allows for use of transcription markers while editing (from Simon Says) and then adding the multicam functionality at the end. My mind is blown, this was just fantastically helpful. Thank you!

    I'm only a basic newbie to Resolve, have had the Speed Editor for months but never got to trying to use it. After watching this vid I embraced the Cut page and did the rough edit using the techniques shown. Fastest I have done it when I am fixing up all my Ums and Ahs etc, the smooth cut and transition duration set is brilliant and fast, doing the Trim in/out so so quick. Thank you.

  • @karacho070
    @karacho070 3 ปีที่แล้ว +9

    Excellent video! Saved to rewatch it. What separates it from other videos is that you're actually working on a project and your cuts and decisions make sense. It really makes it stand out and is a great way to teach. I find it lackluster when TH-camrs just put together random clips and start trimming and cutting them without any sense behind it apart from explaining the functions.

    With your help, I finally just realized why "Ripple Delete" removes the section in front of the playhead. Only in computer stuff is "Backspace" for deleting the previous section, and "delete" for what's in front. Having been pretty strong with the keyboard and ambitiously curious of computers since the early 90s... you'd think I'd have learned this sooner about the Speed Editor. All the same, thank you for this and many other tips! Cheers to you, sir!

    Just got my Speed Editor with Studio. Since I'm new to video editors AND Resolve, I picked up on this tool QUICKLY. It's awesome!! Much faster and better accuracy than the mouse for traversing clips and populating the timeline. So glad this came with Studio. Basically a must-have freebie! However, I do have a couple design 'gripes' for BMD... 1) Alter the wheel - lighten it (it's like starting and stopping a bowling ball), add some additional turning friction (it's too loose), lose the dimple and add some grip material to the face instead. 2) Change the keys - what's with the 1980s IBM Selectric keys?? Use low travel keys with a slight snap (i.e. ThinkPad laptop). Make key caps changeable and offer button re-mapping software option so users can personalize/optimize their workflow. Then this sucker would be PERFECT :)

    • @AlecKinnear
      @AlecKinnear 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Guy, the speed editor feels like a real jog/shuttle wheel from real edit machines. Sorry you want a toy. Other companies make toy hardware. Going onto the keys - the serious tactile keys and long term durability (millions of presses) are also what editors want. If you want a toy, there are many companies making cheap toys which will break. Everything you've written is dead wrong.

    So in about the first minute of your vid, I realize that the unit is Bluetooth capable..oops. I was quite happy to be free of the USB-C cable for my workstation although it took a hot minute to figure out the procedure! Bluetooth does not work until the keyboard is charged up! The two camera bin sync section is priceless as 2 camera shoots can be daunting for a rookie without time sync. Davinci does a great job and the Speed Editor tips make it quite simple to do the sync AND edit.
    Onward, and thanks again for this comprehensive tutorial

    I am super impressed by your video! At this point, it is way beyond my skill level, as I am just a beginner, but I expect I will come back to view this video many times as I learn to use the Speed Editor with DaVinci Resolve.

    I find that you reeeeeeely need to pay attention to the little arrows on the bottom timeline to previz what's going to happen to what clip with the various jog wheel/button presses.
    The Speed Editor is alternately fun and frustrating. Your tutorials are going a long way towards increasing the fun and lowering the frustration. Thanks! Looking forward to more.

      Cheers Peter. Agreed, ,it has its quirks but definitely saves time overall and much more 'fun' than JKL.

    Complete novice at editing but the good news - there are people like Darren prepared to share their skill,knowledge and expertise with us and i've just bought the speed editor and feel confident that with help from Darren i'm going to have some fun ! Just got to work out how to prevent Mr Twiglet,my jack russell from running around with it in his mouth .....if i get frustrated struggling to use it i can always 'it myself on the 'ead with it - i can then call myself an 'ead 'itter...

    • @DarrenMostyn

Thanks Darren - teething problems with insufficient ramadamadingdong but i've upgraded to a 16 gigglebite which should resolve the matter forthwith.....and as the song goes " Thanks for the memory ...." You're a cracking teacher which is a rare skill Darren, and i will enjoy learning from you're toot orials.Deep joy.
