    This is a fantastic video series. I just traded somebody for a xr600r that was laying in his yard. Looking to bring it back to life and your videos will make that happen. Thank you!

      Do you have any videos about hooking up brake lights and turn signals and all that? I just moved to Colorado and want to ride on the streets to the trails and have no clue how to go about that. Thanks

      Succes!

    Incredivel bro!!! I am planning to restore an XR 250. Your videos will help me a lot! Will there be much difference between both bikes?
    I will save this video in favorites, and use it in a few weeks.

      Can't say for sure, but what i saw on the xr400 is that there are a lot fo similarities. Would say buy an oven to get the bearings out and place the bearings. Makes your life easier. Good luck and have fun with the restauration!

    Hi there, great job. Quick question, are all transmission ball bearings standard clearance? Thanks

    • @cjsgarage3662
      @cjsgarage3662  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      yes, only the crankshaft is c3 i thought.
      Transmission has no clearance.
      Hope i helped out

      @@cjsgarage3662 Thanks for answering. Just one thing regarding counter shaft bearing 6305. You put 6305 CM, that's actually a special clearance bearing for electrical motors. It's tighter than a standard 'CN' clearance bearing. Did you know?

      @@grzegorzstroka9517 Hi Gregor, i looked it up in my notes.
      I see i used an NTN TM-SC0351CS15 on there, used loctite 648 a bit on it to avoid turning in the casing.
      The OEM number is 91005-MK4-701 of hondaparts.
      I'l llook further if ic an find more info

      @@grzegorzstroka9517 PS the size is 16x44x13, check the NTN number online about the clearances. Don't forget, these are the bearings i found in the casing. Could be that the previous owner mad a mistake. My engines runs fine, balancer is running like clockwork.

    Hi, What is the technique you have used to remove old bearings.Thanks

    • @cjsgarage3662
      @cjsgarage3662  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I bought an electric oven for $10,= old one.
      And i have a bearing removal kit, for 70,-
      But heat is a good friend when rebuilding an engine, expecially the oven because it heats evenly. A torch will get different heat spots.

    I have an 85 XL600R I’m rebuilding and a spare 86 XL600R motor(mostly complete) as a back up or parts. My 85 motor was leaking oil past the exhaust so I was considering at least a top end rebuild. How much did the rebuild process cost for you in the end?

    • @cjsgarage3662
      @cjsgarage3662  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      At first i wanted to sum up all the costs, but in the end i was scared to ;).
      Let's say, with all the parts around $1400,-? With alle the hassle, paint, parts etc.
      If you still have enough compression, and your oil stays clean you only need to take the head off.
      Just a tip:
      - Headgasket
      - Camshaft check, if in spec dont replace same for rockerarms
      - But buy a new camchaintensioner while your at it. And a new chain.
      If you want to redo the cylinderwalls cheap, check out video nr 6. Honing yourself and only buy new rings $55,-
      If you have any questions let me know
      Have fun!

      cj's garage dude you’re awesome! Thanks that’s great info! I definitely need a new tensioner (it’s loud) hah I’ll try to run it more and be checking the oil like you said then start on the top end. I’m sure I’ll be back looking through the rest of your videos. Great work and thanks for offering to help!

      @@osalcedoucmsae Definately the tensioner if its loud. In the end of video 9 you see i was completely ready with the engine. But the head was still noisy when warm. Lot of hassle to change the tensioner in the frame with the 1987 version. Definately a good investment .!

    • @cjsgarage3662

      Try it while heating it up in an oven. Perhaps it falls out. I bought an second hand pizzaoven for $10,-.
      Really handy for the rebuild
      Or a bearingpuller , keep in mind you will need to order a new bearing just in case.
