    Thanks dude, means a lot. I've collected the parts over the last year from secondhand sites and similar places. Here in NZ these bikes were really popular so there are heaps of parts around if you look. The brand new engine parts are where the cash goes. All parts are still available for them from Honda :)

    Great videos!! I have a 95 XR600R and wondering if you have any information on getting the Clutch Cable arm out so that I can replace the seal. Located in front of the front sprocket with the clutch cable attached @ 8:09 in this video. Any information would be much appreciated.

      Thanks mate. Great bikes. This old girl is still going strong. Yeah that lever, I’m pretty sure you just turn it back anticlockwise as far as it goes without the cable and pull. It’s been awhile though so I could be wrong. There’s plenty of rebuild videos on here that will show you Guaranteed 👌🏼. Do the bearing too mate

      @@TheSlightlyaverage Thank you!! I didn't want to force it but I did not try rotating it yet. I'll give it a go tomorrow and see what happens. As for the rebuild videos, I'm not seeing them so i must be entering the wrong key words. Bike is a 95 XR600. Thanks again and cheers!

    Great job dude! I can see you put a lot of care and attention to detail into this project.
    I do a lot of similar restoration/rebuilding work on my vehicles and other machinery. I'm very close to getting into my own XR500 or XR600 build.. had a few questions.
    What steps did you take painting the magnesium case covers? Did you get them blasted? If so what medium did you use, and how did you like the results? What kind of paint did you use? Did you prime? How is the paint holding up today?
    If you had to do all over again, what would you do differently?
    Again, great work

      Thanks for the comments. Have you got a bike or have you not decided 500 or 600? I’ve been in the car painting trade for years so is easy to get materials. I cleaned the parts thoroughly with scotch brite and prepsol, filled any bits and feathered any edges. I used a thermo activated two-pack primer for any alloys. Then base coated and two-pack clear with flattening agent. That paint will last forever, fingers crossed 🤞

      As in doing anything different..... I would definitely not of ridden the bike all day with a shattered big end bearing. That made a real mess

      As I was looking for a xr my buddy informed me his brother had an 09 crf-x for a great price. Too good of a deal. After I'm done with the mechanicals and riding this summer I will probably tear it apart and begin custom painting

    • @TheSlightlyaverage
      @TheSlightlyaverage  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Pablo. Yes you can add a battery if you want. You can buy kits aftermarket but the best way is t get all the parts you need off the XR650L or the XL650 and then it’s all factory Honda stuff. You can also add the 650L’s electric start if you don’t like kicking the old girl 👍🏼

      Cool. I'm building the same bike right now and I just went to put the head on last night and the two bolts next to the cam chain tunnel are totally stripped out. Someone has been in there before and when I pulled the head and cylinder the bolts were tightened to about 100 ft.-lb. That really pisses me off! I'll get it back together though. It's just going to take a little more time.

    Very nice 🙏🏼. How do you managed the indicators wiring…because there’s no battery ? I asked a mechanics and pretends it’s not possible because the lack of battery 😔. Pretty sure he’s just lazy 🤨. Thx for your help !!

    • @TheSlightlyaverage
      @TheSlightlyaverage  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks. The old XR still running like a clock. The stator supplies the power just like a battery. The XRs have a capacitor to even out the current otherwise as long as the engine is spinning the lights and indicators all work as they should. Thanks Tom 👍🏼

    I'm definately going to make a writeup tonight when i have the time, my 600 is getting rebuilt too. :) sorry if it might be in the vid, how do you put oil in the pump when it's dry? I wouldn't want to f-up my head.. (And the rest of the engine).

    • @TheSlightlyaverage
      @TheSlightlyaverage  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks. Yep can be a problem getting oil up the feed to the head. I fill the oil and leave the oil pipe off at the head. Then I block the breather and use compressed air, slowly at low pressure to push oil through the engine till it comes out at the top of the feed.

    • @TheSlightlyaverage
      @TheSlightlyaverage  9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I use compressed air. Block the breather and slowly pressurize the engine block with the oil feed off the head. When the oil comes out bolt it back on and check oil level. Crank her up

    • @boomstickbelgian2775
      @boomstickbelgian2775 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wow man never thought of doing it that way, you are a genious.Do you mean to put some oil in the bottom oil tube or pressurise the oil tank?

    • @TheSlightlyaverage
      @TheSlightlyaverage  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Easier just to pressurize the oil tank. Doesn't need much :)

      The main plug from your handlebar switches is the most important, indicators etc are easy. They should be colour coded. Is the bike running? I plugged a battery Charger into mine to get them sorted cause....no battery
