  • DIY Aztec Sun Stone Silicone Mold: Engraved Plywood to Plaster Casting Adventure! Welcome to our DIY adventure, where we embark on the journey of crafting a Aztec Sun Stone Silicone Mold from engraved plywood and then casting plaster into it! In this exciting project, we'll take you step by step through the process of creating a detailed and accurate replica of the ancient Aztec Sun Stone.
    Download layout: drive.google.com/file/d/1EJ7R...
Using engraved plywood as our canvas, we'll meticulously carve out the intricate design of the Mayan calendar. Once the engraving is complete, we'll move on to the exciting part - making the silicone mold. With DIY ingenuity, we'll carefully pour silicone over the plywood engraving, capturing every detail to perfection.
After allowing the silicone to cure, it's time for the magic of plaster casting. We'll demonstrate how to mix and pour plaster into the silicone mold, creating solid replicas of the Aztec Sun Stone. The result? A stunning and durable plaster casting that preserves the rich heritage of the Mayan civilization.
Join us on this creative journey as we blend artistry, craftsmanship, and history in our DIY Aztec Sun Stone Silicone Mold Adventure!

@@DoasIDo2 No... I *did* mean your mold, but I could not resist that opening when I read you response. Of course I want your mold, but your kitty would never forgive me for taking her from you, much less the shipment torture. I was kidding, of course. A mold of your cat would be impossible to obtain and useless because the kitty soul would be missing. Unlike your creations, which seem to have captured the soul of the Sun Stone quite well. I wonder if instead of plaster you could cast some of that slurry epoxy stuff they have that looks like marble when it polymerizes. You could pour a thin mold of it and then back it with a back fill of a more stable or even "glass filled" epoxy backing if the marble stuff is too costly. I see these wood lathe guys filling molds with wood chips and resins and then turning it on a lathe to make beautiful vases and such. Harder to work with (no sh*t, it gets hard), but you could even get real creative and do a cloisonne type color fills, segment by segment in the mold, before the next layer. Kind of like how IC chips gets built. I have seen some pretty cool looking painted images out there. Mold release is your friend. "Food Grade" mold release agents may even be a better choice. It would take a long time to build up all the colors and backgrounds and make a colorful cloisonne type version. But you look like you spend lots of hours doing all kinds of crazy mold things, brother! I am digging it! I want to make things for pool players. I can already see where your mold media might be the actual product media for a couple items. The RTV silicones I used to use in High Voltage realm were very weak and would easily shear. Your stuff looks pretty hardy. You have made me want to do a new hobby before I croak!

This is amazing, I’ve learned alot and I’m inspired to try that out. My only comment would be that since you’ve engraved on plywood, the engraved area of the plywood would show the wood grains and that would also show on the silicone mold (and ofcourse later the plaster product).. I wonder if the engraving was done on something more uniform like Acrylic sheets or MDF, the engraved surface might be cleaner?

Hago trabajos en alto relieve de pequeñas estructuras de catedrales coloniales, pero enfrento dificultades con las burbujas. He probado diversas estrategias, como verter el yeso en pequeñas cantidades con pinceles, lo que parece eliminarlas.
