Going to do my seat this way in the same kayak. This seems to be the most practical, cost effective, and simple to install, and having the space under the seat with the catch all is the massive selling point. Good video.

A little FYI for you. Those zip ties are a great idea. However, with 44years as an aircraft mechanic/Inspector, my experience with zip ties is if they aren’t cut flush, they will cut you like a knife.

It’s funny I randomly ran across this comment. As an aircraft mechanic/inspector myself, I got 6 stitches 3 weeks ago from reaching back behind a panel that had a diagonally cut zip tie. Unfortunately behind a potty, cut right through my gloves.

I JUST did this today on my yak because of this video. Super stoked to get out on the water now again. The one thing i did different though is i used the back to the old seat by tying the straps behind the back of the new seat and using a fat zip tie on the barrel portion at the bottom of the old seat back and connecting it to the rear cross member of the new seat. It's like a lazy boy. Don't tie that zip tie too tight though because the seat back won't fold down correctly if you zip it too tight. This video was awesome and I thank you so much for the idea

Thanks for the video, I have the same kayak. 2 summers ago I added a padded seat to my original seat. It was fine but I wanted something better this year. Yours was the first video I watched, as soon as you said the Ozark chair was $15 at Walmart I was hooked. Bought it today and installed it, even put a noodle on the back rail, looks just fine. Can't wait to try it out this weekend. I know for sure I'm going to love having my flat tackle box underneath the seat. No more reaching around blindly in the rear box, easier access to my knife and plyers.

@@theflyguytfgflies got my stadium seat in! Woohoo! Thanks dude! I got the 200 lbs zip ties that you recommended too and this sucker ain't going no where! I lifted the whole up kayak up from just the seat. Lol! If I may say, I kept the clips on the stock seat back straps on because it gives the stadium foot a little more plastic to sit on versus just the clip nubbin. This install allows two Plano boxes underneath! 👍Caution to those who want to do this though, you do sit way higher so stability is a concern for this particular kayak but I have outriggers/stabilizers so no worries for me. 😁

I just finished doing the same with my yak, used that same seat from Walmart. However I found the seat back to be too upright...did not lean back enough, very uncomfortable. So I removed all the rivets at the "pivot" point and replaced with 3" bolts and nuts, using the existing holes. Now the seat leans back as far as I want. Used strong paracord on each side, tied paracord to the lean back, and other end to kayak straps/handle to stop the seat from leaning too far back, just the right angle. Adjust paracord to your comfort position.

Thanks for the great idea to use eye pads and zip ties to attach a replacement seat! Just did a similar thing with a Lifetime Kokanee tandem kayak (turning it into a single person kayak for my extra tall son-in-law.) Fingers crossed it holds up! What mattered most to me was the ability to remove the new kayak seat in the event other family members wish to turn it back into a tandem kayak with the original hard plastic back rests. The zip-ties make it easy to remove the new seat without removing the eye-pads.

I used this seat on my Tamarack 100 too however I mounted mine differently. I used 1 inch square aluminum tubing. I removed the foam seat cover as you did and mounted off the plastic seat to have better stability. I tried it mounted as you did but I didn't care for it. Not saying it was a bad mount, just saying that it wasn't for me. Also, my seat is about an inch higher and I made vinyl straps to attach it to the base I built as I carry my kayak on the roof of my Mazda3 and like removing the seat for transport. The nay sayers came out with all kinds of reasons why it was a bad idea to mount the seat in the way we did (at least they did on me) but I know these chairs and the way you mounted it is not a problem. I did find that the seat back was hard on my back (as I paddle a considerable distance). So my remedy for it is that since i mounted the seat up over the seat back strap braces (I hope that makes sense) I use the original seat back in conjunction with the stadium seat back. It provides me with a great lower lumbar support and I am able to lean back comfortably.

I just bought this seat today and it only took 1 minute in the seat to know that upper bar on the backrest was going to be a deal breaker, the pool noodle idea will save me from returning it

Good job on the mods! Question on the pool noodle backrest... Did you cut the noodle length wise and slip over the bar or what?

Hey great job!! Question, how was stability after seat install? I once added seats like this to my sit on top tandem, tried to keep them as close to the waterline as possible but wanted a little height for a better fishing view. Didn't throw the boat off balance drastically, but it was a little change in stability. Fine in lakes and still water but would no longer use in tidal or moving water. Just as a precaution as we have never dumped! (LOL) I have this same single kayak also and want to do the seat mod for tidal and moving water. Do you think it would be a convertible and stable fishing platform? Thanks

Did the higher seat mess with stability at all? I have an almost identical kayak and am thought about doing this. I’ve built a mount for a trolling motor as well. I’ve yet to even test it but it won’t be long.

When you raise the seat on any kayak it can become less stable. For me, I fly fish out of my kayak and have not had any issues but have noticed that my movements are a little more noticeable but the kayak isn't "tippy." I hope that helps you.

Thanks! I don't use them all the time but I stash some gear clipped under my elevated seat. I try to keep it dry as best I can. If I do take on water from rough runs in a creek/river, I will just beach the yak, pull the plugs, and drain it. Doesn't happen too often though.

I’m adding a 6” sealed, torpedo shaped PVC tube with lead ballast and ability to store dry items in it but mount it under the kayak using the scupper holes and very strong bungee and a T bar to hold it in place the two runners molded into the bottom will provide structural rigidity needed.
Why? 1. This will add stability for open water fishing 2. This’s will increase my dry Bulk storage and overall payload. 3. This will act as a center beam and will improve straight movement.
    4. I will build this in a two, part assembly so I can detach them and move them to the outside to increase stability in rough waters by adding beam width to the kayak.
The attachment or detachment method will be quick and simple they will not sink independently or assembled or create added weight and will not add to the load of the kayak
If a cross current is impeding my intended direction I will detach it and pull it or snug it up to the sides or; load it on either side of the kayak.
6” diameter pipe under the kayak should not hinder the propulsion through the water it should actually decrease drag as there will be slight lift on the hull.
The weight should decrease roll effect of waves. Waves might come in but they won’t roll the kayak. I might use this as a GOPRO mount as well.

Hey man, i am thinking about doing this with mine and was just curious how you feel the seat affects the stability? I would picture it making it a bit less stable but I can't tell if it would matter. I would love the under seat storage and the extra comfort haha.

But want stability if I happen to get in rough water!
