I think ube ice cream is a safe introduction to ube but be sure to get a good one though. Sometimes the flavor is not there. Like someone said, it's hit or miss, I think it's cause they don't use enough of the flavor or they mixed it with something not complementary. Ube can easily be overpowered by other flavors. It's earthy and subtle. To me, it's all about the aroma.

Funny story about Malasadas, so I always thought this was a made-up created food, cause in Pokemon Sun & Moon, it takes place on hawaiian-like islands, and I thought, “aww! This is so cute, a treat we can feed to our Pokémon” and my globs, when I watched your trips to Hawaii & trying out malasadas, I was like, THEYRE REAL???? I thought it was a made up food from Pokémon! But it all made sense! Hawaiian like islands, malasadas! Hawaii was truly an inspiration for Pokémon Sun & Moon. "Malasadas" sounds Filipino. So this recipe is portuguese but somewhat similar to the Berliner of Germany.
In Iloilo in the Philippines, we call soft boiled eggs, "malasado nga itlog". Learning that "malasada" is portuguese, the word "malasado" in Ilonggo is probably spanish influenced, since portuguese and spanish are closely similar.
This donut has probably got it's name from soft-boiled egg since it has a moist filling like that of a soft boiled egg.

    A funny side story:
In Germany, most people call this a “Berliner” which also is the word for a citizen of Berlin
That’s why it’s called “Pfannekuchen” in Berlin ,so people wouldn’t think they’re eating people.😂
But this word is already used by the rest of Germany for Crêpes
And that’s why Crêpes in Berlin called “Eierkuchen” which is translated as Eggcake😂

The carnival is also one way Punahou funds its scholarships so students from low-middle income families can afford to go.
It’s a great time, and the money (for the school-ran parts, not so much the rented rides and food-trucks) goes to a good cause. Basically, if it’s high school students, aunties, and uncles running it, the money is helping the school, its students, and the community!
