I remember driving to one of his gigs with my friends in 2010 and seeing him and the band relaxing outside, we drove past and didn’t know what to say so we just randomly cheered out the window, never forgotten the smile on his face
I can't hit like again so I'm just going to say I'm back again :) Today's date is April 7, 2024. A lot has changed with the world since this was written. I still love it all the same. I'm always glad to find it here. Thank you ❤️
What amazes me is how amazing the lyrics are. They read like poetry and you don't notice them at first because you get lost in Brian's voice but then you read them and realize they're quite incredible
I'd like to thank Brian for always singing his heart out. His voice, songs and bands have meant the world to me and my close family for the past 15 years. Through good times and bad he's always made it stick and very, very few people can do that anymore. Please keep writing; your impact on music is more important than you'll ever know. I'll be in the crowd next time you're down in Asbury singing my heart out for those who aren't here anymore. If you can stop the crowd for a second and tell all of us that people, music, hope, and love matters it would mean the world to a lot of your fans. RIP to my brother and best friend I could ever ask for Jesse. I miss you every day and nothing will be the same without you.
I´m so sorry for your loss.. But I just wanted to let you know that this was said so well and I feel the exact same way about this songwriting genius. I commented under this exact same video 4 years ago how it makes me feel alive listening to this and I do still feel that way, if not even more. Thank you man! Lots of love
"And I carried these songs like a comfort wherever I'd go And they was there when my summers was high And there when she left me alone Saying, "the soul is hard to find" Funny how a stanza from Brian Fallon himself relates so perfectly to how his fans feel about his songs.
Saw him a couple years ago acoustic with Dave Hause from the Loved Ones at the Bowery Ballroom. Hause did a bunch of covers as well as some of his songs, Brian made conversation with the audience; it felt as though they invited the audience over to their houses to play music in their garage/backyards and drink/relax. Artists like them play for the love of music. This should be the stuff that we here on the radio more so.
this is a treasure. this makes wandering of the main highway of music and on to the back roads worth it. its worth sifting through random bands that don't appeal to you and singers that have great lyrics but can't sing them or frustratingly short lived acts, and worth going back through the early, old, crappy work of your favorites for stuff like this. i'm in tears. amazing grace indeed, how sweet the sound, amen.
I really miss Gaslight. But Brian continues to write incredible music. I've never got tired of this song, it still hits me the same as when I first heard it.
I learned how to hammer In the burning August sun I learned how to lie and cheat How to steal and just how to run I fell asleep most nights Somebody else's blood on my tongue, your tongue You learn just how to run But It's just the blues, Mary the blues Swirling around my head like your dreams in Dorothy's shoes I'm somewhere over the rainbow for you I learned how to cry In them lonesome September nights I learned to get by With the dogs and the dirt and the charm of the street I fell asleep most nights With your pictures right behind my eyes, your eyes The killer and the victim arrive Right at the same time But It's just the blues, Mary the blues Swirling around my head like your dreams in Dorothy's shoes I'm somewhere over the rainbow for you But It's just the blues, Mary the blues Swirling around my head like your dreams in Dorothy's shoes I'm somewhere over the rainbow for you And cause your smile Is bright like the ramparts on the 4th of July And my baby swings like a boxer And sends her right hooks under my chin She cries like a baby And she wears me just like a ring, Cries like a baby, And she wears me just like a ring I'd rather go then watch you leave I'd rather go then watch you leave I learned how to swagger I learned how to hold you while your body burned I learned how to compromise While this world went hurricane turn We fell asleep most nights With each others blood on our tongues My love Have you ever just had enough? Most people now call themselves musicians when they don't put anything into the music they play and have most of their hits written by several other untalented people. When I listen to music, I want to hear something that speaks to your soul and Brian Fallon is one of very few that can manage to put that kind of emotion into absolutely everything he's written.
Saw Brian at the Crossroads earlier this month and he played this song. My fiance and i were only 10 feet away and he was holding me while Brian played... it was surreal.
@IfRainFallsIDance I have been wondering the same thing. I have been really into music for years and have been inspired through countless endeavors. Yet Brian's simple but honest lyrics have proven some of the most impressive to me. Like with many of you guys reading this, his writing "voice" resonates strongly with me.
Brian Fallon tem músicas incrivelmente boas... é agradável e leve de se escutar... Só lamento, pois, onde vivo as pessoas se quer o conhecem, ou seu trabalho no The gaslight anthem.. Uma pena.
I learned how to hammer In the burning August sun I learned how to lie and cheat How to steal and just how to run I fell asleep most nights Somebody else's blood on my tongue, your tongue You learn just how to run [Chorus:] But it's just the blues, Mary, the blues Swirling around my head like your dreams in Dorothy's shoes I'm somewhere over the rainbow for you I learned how to cry In them lonesome September nights I learned to get by With the dogs and the dirt and the charm of the street I fell asleep most nights With your pictures right behind my eyes, your eyes The killer and the victim Right at the same time [Chorus] And cause your smile Is bright like the ramparts on the 4th of July And my baby swings like a boxer And sends her right hooks under my chin She cries like a baby And she wears me just like a ring Cries like a baby And she wears me just like a ring I'd rather go than watch you leave I learned how to swagger I learned how to hold you while your body burn I learned how to compromise While this whirlwind hurricane turned We fell asleep most nights With each other's blood on our tongues My love Have you ever just had enough? [Chorus]
Brian Fallon can't write a bad song. I really hope he finishes his solo Americana record. 10-12 cuts in the same vein would make for a fantastic record.
He kept my soul safe for me this is my king from Bronx and you take back what is yours today I love you to hell and back Brian Fallon love your angel Sarah Williams
It's funny you got this from MySpace. I saw TGA open up for The Loved Ones in 2008 and loved them and ordered their CD from their MySpace page. I wish he'd redo this on a solo album like he did with Red Lights etc.
He was thinking of releasing a solo EP or album a few years ago and put these songs on the myspace, and then changed his mind and did the split EP with Chuck Ragan.
I was forced by my situation to make my first album with an acoustic guitar, a recording mixer, and vocals. The whole time I was like, "More like Springsteen's 'Atlantic City,' and more like The Blues, Mary!"
This man has saved my life and of my soul on more than one occasion. I hope he realizes the profound impact he has on his people.
Agreed. So many lifetimes I spent from years 19-30 and whatever band he is up to I find my way to. Too good.
Rock and roll will save your immortal soul
Oz taylor you described me man.
I remember driving to one of his gigs with my friends in 2010 and seeing him and the band relaxing outside, we drove past and didn’t know what to say so we just randomly cheered out the window, never forgotten the smile on his face

Yes sir
This man writes music that speaks to my soul
I listened to this song every day in Afghanistan. This got me through some serious stuff.
You’re one good soul, brotha.
Thank you for your service!
Brian hits different.. doesn’t he? Glad you made it home.
✊ once, always!
Thank you for your service
12 years later and still a banger ❤️❤️❤️
This man’s lyrics have saved me more times than I care to share. Thank you. I hope you know how truly talented you are
Oh how he pours his heart and soul into this song. My favorite Brian Fallon song of all time.
RIP Justin. I remember showing you this and

I'm sorry for your loss lss air Man is a jerk
Sorry for your loss man. 🙏
im so sorry man. im sure he is still playing this song up there on repeat thinking of you.
Have you ever just had enough? I very literally get chills on that line. This song is so raw and it hits me just right.
I love how he subtlely weaves "Amazing Grace" into the end chorus. You listen to it a few times, never notice it, then you can't un-hear it.
Good counterpoint.
Christophe Carpentier never noticed until now, wow
Christophe Carpentier Woh... I've listened to this about 50 times and I never noticed
I almost wanna hear him JUST SING Amazing Grace. Golly
Thank you for commenting this. I've listened to this song over and over again and never noticed that. It's so a beautiful touch.
It's amazing how i can have this on repeat over and over, over and over again, and over again.
Incredible.... Listen to the amazing live one but this is still incredible.
What amazes me is how amazing the lyrics are. They read like poetry and you don't notice them at first because you get lost in Brian's voice but then you read them and realize they're quite incredible

Great song, great artist.
I will never understand how in the world one can create something as beautiful as this

That was a great show.
Got to the chorus and I realized I had a giant wistful smile on my face. Bravo once again Mr. Fallon.

This is one of the best songs ever. Very relatable. Makes me reminisce... Love it
maybe the best song i've ever heard.
thanks
gives me that unexpected tear in the eye, very very great piece of music... nothing left to say.
Im so damn happy that such musicans are still out there in times of Gaga's and Biber's....
Your voice, lyrics, 3/4 rhythm. This is what music should be.

Sounds like "onto my chin" instead of "under"
It's a simple song.. but so beautiful.
I think its "I would rather go than watch her leave." I get goose bumps everytime when the amazing grace comes in.
This guy is going to be so big I can even imagine, and he totally deserves it. True hero

It's funny you got this from MySpace. I saw TGA open up for The Loved Ones in 2008 and loved them and ordered their CD from their MySpace page. I wish he'd redo this on a solo album like he did with Red Lights etc.

No wonder his raspy voice and melody sounds familiar. Gaslight Anthem rules
i love this song

i can't tell why but the amazing grace background voice cracks me up.
Still ridiculously good
This is my new fav' song ever.

Thank You for this!
I must've smoked a carton to this by now..
Me too...
Every time.
I was forced by my situation to make my first album with an acoustic guitar, a recording mixer, and vocals. The whole time I was like, "More like Springsteen's 'Atlantic City,' and more like The Blues, Mary!"
I wish I knew this song back when it was uploaded
