My girlfriend passed away last year in February and brian fallon is the only thing that kept me from wanting to end it all , but everything gets better with time, this song tears me up everytime I hear it

As big of a fan as I am of both Brian and GLA. I can't believe Ive never gave this a listen. I prefer it so much more.
I dont mind the new take of this song on his album but this version is so much stronger. The verses are much better lyrically and i just prefer the mood of this. I can take this version a lot more seriously, the one on his solo album almost feels like a parody of a country song rather than a credible song. Fallons my hero but im so annoyed he hasnt at least tried to keep the mood of this song.

Tbf i think red lights is pretty much the same just with added polish. I kinda prefer the new version of smoke but thats cos i wasnt a big fan anyway. But yeah tampering with them seemed strange

I've listened to every song from upcoming Painkillers but c'mon this one is purely the best, so emotional and powerful
+Asmunar Becktenov It has a more honest less over produced feel than the one on his new album. The problem with Brian and the gaslight is they started out real and honest and the past two albums have been way way way over produced by music execs who want to appeal to more people and its watering down the music in my opinion. I just don't get the same connection anymore.

The way the verses and bridge is structured, this song sounds like a precursor to "Halloween" from the Get Hurt deluxe edition. P.S. yes this version is way better than the one he ended up releasing on Painkillers, which is actually one of my least favourite songs on the record.

In my opinion it's the best version. The other one is good, but in my subjective stance I love this one way better.
Now, I do have some personal reasons, which these lyrics particularly, in their order resonate closely to me, but I also feel that how everything is portrayed and composed just works better.
Again, subjective, the other version on Painkillers is great!

It's all subjective in the end. I have the same reasoning but for the album version. I can relate more to the order of the lyrics there but doesn't mean this isn't pretty good as well. We're lucky to have both versions

Butch Walker royally effed the Brian Fallon album, which should have been the next Born in the USA. The songs Fallon wrote for that album are the best he's ever done, that's including 59 sound. The songs written for this album should have made it his best ever but it's not even close to top three (Elsie, Amercian Slang, 59 Sound) and that's on Butch Walker as far as I'm concerned.

I liked the way the album was recorded for its own sake, but this was poorly done on the record. The line where he says 'I could never get her to believe' on this song on Painkillers is bizarre, it sounds awful. As an album overall though I think it's great, even if some songs might have been improved upon individually.
Brian Fallon changed this song for the painkillers album, the whole song is different, he only kept the chorus.

You can't buy this album. They wanted it to be free online. Just get youtube downloader and get all the songs you can find.
