Lyrics:
Step right up
Get yourself wrecked
Come on whisper my name
I mean since it's so late
A thousand miles away
I'll be creeping down your spine
And making you wait, wait and wait
And I hope you find a handsome young man
Who can love you like I, baby, just like I can
Who will take you out dancing, while you waited me out
Making good use of the blues you found
Go on light it up
Let your hair down
You deserve the wee hours and the shivers downtown
Because I'm waking up
You're stumbling home
What? You think I forget
I remember each and every lonesome night lone
And I hope you find a handsome young man
Who can love you like I, baby, just like I can
Who will take you out dancing, as you waited me out
Making good use of the blues you found
Making misery so proud
And if I saw this much blood
If it was all on your hands
If the pills in my system came to call you up again
Would you buy me a drink, to calm down
Would you buy me a drink right now?
And I hope you find a handsome young man
Who can love you like I, baby, just like I can
Who will take you out dancing, while you waited me out
Making good use of the blues you found
And I hope you find a handsome young man
Who can love you like I, baby, just like I can
Who will take you out dancing, while you waited me out
Making good use of the blues you found
Making good use of the blues you found
Making good use of the blues in you now
Making misery so proud
Making misery so proud
Making misery so proud
While you waited me out

Put up on TH-cam 11+ years ago, and I still circle back to this song when I have a certain mood hit me. I'll break out the whiskey with all of you here.
Brian Fallon is hands down one of the best lyricists who's ever lived.
If your heart doesn't hurt after this... you must not have one.
These guys can do no wrong.
+tllallyrfrnds this id how song reviews should be written... perfect summation
That harmonica puts this song into the top for me.
Brian Fallon is one of the greatest artist of all time. You can feel the blood he writes with.
could not agree more
golden word‘s ❤️
Blood???? Emotion or pain is better words
"What'd ya think I'd forget? I remember each and every lonesome night lone."
Her perfume, her eyes and her smile.. Things I'll not forget so easily! But "I hope you find a handsome young man
Who can love you like I, baby, just like I can"
first song in my life, that hearin it at the time i did hit me so hard i bursted out cryin, i love brians writing, he knows how to elicit emotions from evertrhing he puts out, i love this band , hell i know id be dead without this band.
I love this song... so much emotion in Brian’s voice here.
Best song he ever wrote
"I hope you find a handsome young man, who can love you like I, baby, just like I can."
That defines every love I've ever had in my entire life.
It's a song about being a nice guy, but with no nice guy stereotypes.
Brian Fallon put his soul on this song.... You can feel in every chord
Nothing but raw emotion and brilliant song writing. Putting all his emotional cards on the able and one of those songs we can all relate to at some point in our lives past or present. For me, what music is all about
"So I like sad songs like The Smiths and Morri....."
"Let me stop you right there"
This is still very very very beautiful. Brian Fallon is king of real, emotive toons.
Wow, just wow! I love it when he pulls the harmonica out
wow, randomly clicked on the song 'cause just starting to discover this band - and he just summed up the last few years of my life and shoved in my face... thanks for breaking me tonight, Gaslight... sigh. great song... amazing.
That's how you heal.
You made this comment 10 years ago, I want to say, I just found this song a few months ago, despite being a massive fan of Gaslight Anthem, and this song is describing my life right now. Cheers, brother.
A lot of people want to knock his voice and his style (and sometimes i do, too), but makes the difference between reading the lyrics and being sad, and listening to the song and feeling the pain fresh, all over again.
These lyrics are phenomenal.
Love these guys...... by far one of my favorite bands!
I do remember that very afternoon so well, when i first heard that voice. I'm pretty sure it won't fade away, for the rest of my life!
I wish I could relive the moment I heard Great Expectations the first time.
Hope The Gaslight Anthem will record this song on their new album.... it's way underrated as a single!
I assume you know they broke up a year ago?!
they will come back
Joe Treanor it wasn't a breakup. Brian and the rest of the guys have said they didn't break up. They.l be back when "they have something to say"
@@Robhensen aaand you were right
Good Call! They’re back...
Brian....you rock!!
Oh Brian, I just want to hug you and tell you everything is gonna be just fine..
And if I saw this much blood
If it was all on your hands
If the pills in my system came to call you up again
Would you buy me a drink, to calm down
Would you buy me a drink right now?
....CHILLS....
Another masterpiece
I didn't understand how he wrote this, a happily married man, but as time progressed, we learn at this stage he was fighting the divorce/break down of his marriage.
Beautiful song, but I wish he didn't have the motivation to write them.
Adam Morgan buddy, if he didn’t write them he would’ve kept it inside, where it creeps and creeps until it dawns on you after fighting your pillows to try to sleep. It’s important to share these, someone needs to know they aren’t alone in these feelings, nor they do not have to keep them in.
I feel for him, I feel bad. But I am also thankful for him and the music he’s given.
Kevin Roberts I agree!! Very well said 😘
I read the initial comment a little different, more like: 'I wish he didn't have to go through that terrible time'. Basically it's sad that he had to go through his marriage failing in the first place. But I agree that he has given us some great heart-wrenching music as a result.
Somewhere out there is a woman with a heart of stone. But we have to thank her for inspiring the songs.
Should check out cursive, the ugly organ album. Pretty much sums up all artist. Guy writes two albums about his divorce, think it's more by now. Shit is so full of pain, and like emotional vampires we all love to just fester in the same pain these musicians are conveying. Love and heartbreak is such an amazing emotion, humans will never stop writing about it.
Spooky, heart felt, and just plain awesome!
best band ever.
ITunes or Rhapsody would not let me buy this song without buying the entire NCIS album. I'll miss this song on my drive tonight.
great song, great voice. In the style of Pete Yorn, so take that as a compliment.
This is f*#king sick
Amazing
Genius!
my forst time hearing this group tonite on conan
I was there too - fully agreed!
wow
very good
Saw them at Sound Academy in Toronto, had the shit venue, great band experience, totally worth it!
pretty much how I feel with every girl in my life
I hear ya. It's why I try not to let myself care anymore.
Amen to that. To both of you.
gonna have to leap up on this, i feel you gents
I wish the 10" would have come with a download code. This song is too damn good.
It is a pretty red one isn't it? That and the cover of Bon Iver are amazing
Really good song. Reminds me more of the Horrible Crowes than Gaslight. Maybe it's the filter used on the vocals.
Holy Fuck who hurt this man?
I want this on iTunes or released I want all of there music
Ooooooh. We all get the feels when he uses that harmonica! And the fact that a woman could actually divorce Brian Fallon. Just think about that. Someone wanted a divorce from Brian Fallon!?
does anyone know the harmonica chords for this? or even know which note he started?
Who hurt this man
Use youtube to mp3 and put in on your ipod that way.
this song is music porn... i love it it helped me alot during a lot of relationproblems...
I really wish I could view this on my phone :(
This fucking song.
and crying. wtf.
Brian Fallon and Elena Tonra could be a perfect match, their lyrics are so "OMFG, who the fuck hurt you for make music like this?
Wow this makes me want to set my wife up with a millionaire, demand she leaves me and then she takes our daughter and even our four guinea pigs, sells the house and keeps the money to feel the full effect of this song's feels. I needed this song in my teens and early twenties!
