NO BUYERS ANXIETY!!! Thank you for this Full Review. I posted earlier that I had just purchased and was waiting for my new Small Sebenza 31 Plain Drop Point/Magnacut to be delivered later this week. It was because of your comments that pushed me over the edge to spend the $ for this tool. Honestly speaking because this is the first time that I plopped down this amount for a knife I was a bit anxious, wondering if I had made the right decision. I now feel much better...lol after watching this latest review. Thank You!!! One last comment...I totally agree with your comments about supporting USA made!!!
Erica I finally did it! I found a left handed small sebenza 31 in magnacut with bog oak. I’m sooo excited to get it in the mail. Woke up for work and started my day by hearing what you think of it. Glad you had only good things to say about it
My old 21 & Umnumzaan fell out of rotation many years ago for various reasons. Your review(s), practical and positive information helped rekindle my love of CRK. Picked up a 31 (plain/large) in Magnacut a couple of weeks ago and it finally had its inauguration during a camping trip recently. Didn't once reach for my Winkler Field Knife, the 31 handled everything imaginable and more. Can't thank you enough for what you do and an amazing channel. Take care.
Love Hearing you talk about sharpening and Steel properties . Your in your 20s with 80 yrs life exp .. Hats off to ya Young Lady. Good useable info.Ive had my Inkosi in my pocket since I got it I really need to try a Seb..
Been looping around and around and around and finally ended back to square one. I have been looking for a hard use folding knife that (gasp) looks good and doesn't look tactiugly like the Adamas, and 99% of Cold Steel knives or plain-jane like the Rat 2. And eventually it just brought me back to Sebenza. Ordered it in Magnacut. And it's done.
Well done! It's nice to see that Magnacut is worth the hype when it's dialed in correctly. And the scales on your knife are probably the best looking that I've seen on a Sebenza. Oh, and I got my Bruin in the mail today, taking it straight to Tiner Town!! 😆 Cheers, E!
I like that you included in your testing experimenting with different edge profiles and the results you found. I really appreciate that your review is very thorough and fair. I almost feel as though I've been carrying this knife vicariously through you as a result...lol 🤣☺ Anyway, I'm rambling again, so I must digress. Thanks very much for this for very detailed review. I've always wanted a Sebenza, I now know whenever I get around to ordering mine to get it in the magnacut. Take good care and please keep up the great work. 👍Cheers!
Great review, thank you! I agree, this knife is a milestone in folding knife history. I guess Magnacut will change the knife market and make some of the niche steels disappear over the next years.
I swear, E, you're gonna MAKE me buy my first ever Sebenza one of these days, if you keep showing 'em in your videos. I'm experiencing a Pavlovian response right now & am fully triggered. Completely unrelated: You pull off the whole "thick frame glasses" look better than Mila Kunis & Emma Watson combined 🥰 That's just a natural FACT...❤
Excellent stuff. I’ve been watching a ton of Sebenza videos as I’ve been contemplating grabbing my first. Then your channel popped up and I’m glad it did. Extremely informative. Looking forward to watching more. Thanks!
I love how you test the knives you review instead of being a pair of hands playing with the action on a table top review. I'm always like okay i know how it looks now, but how does it perform?
Excellent review. All your talk about stropping has me wanting to get into it. Maybe you could do a in depth video on the subject. Tools and techniques.
Wow Erika. Your reviews about sebenza magnacut were awesome, that is the reason why a friend is going to buy me one in the blade show. 80% of this decision was thanks to these reviews. Regards.
Blade HQ just got restocked a small sebenza 31 in magnacut and plain handles with the blue thumb studs and back spacer and I had to buy another one hahaha
Thanks a lot Erica! Your reviews are so good because you are a practical person and I can see you use your stuff! So far I never tought to buy a sebenza mostly because I am a "good enough tool" kind of guy... but yes, now I just bought one!😂
I just bought a small Inkosi with the magnaCut steel from DLC. It’s the tanto version I like the straight edge for easy sharpening. This will be my first magnaCut knife. I hope I like it as much as you like yours.
Listen you are way too smart to not be doing something more. Your intellect is far superior to most. I really hope the best for you! You seem like a stellar human specimen Erica!
Good review! I made my living using tools and won't buy junk. I have only one knife that is just for looks, a gift, Native American carved antler with turquoise and coral inlay. I recently received my small left-handed Sebenza 31 with MagnaCut. It's premium stuff. No blade play as of yet, but anything that honestly gets used will break in and have a bit of play. That's the way with moving parts. A thousandth or two isn't a big deal. Keep up your good work.
Yea try a Sebenza and u want not carry any other knive again ^^, Love my Sebenza 21 small, A new 31 Sebenza Large Elder Box is on the way- Nice Video, good informations ;D
As a potential Seb-21 buyer, how long a break-in period should a newbie to CRK expect? (Weeks of a lot of opening/closing? Months, if the knife isn’t used a lot?) Thank you.
Great knife. Will never understand those who complain about the sebenza being simple when thats probabbly the most important thing for a tool. For me its like if somebody complaint about hammer not having a spinning head or not being mirror polished. Nowdays you watch knife reviews and they focus on the opening action, drop shotiness, opening sound, bearings, etc. Basically the review consists in 20 mins opening and closing the knife like if it was a fidget toy. No talk at all on cutting performance, resistance or sharpening. Imagine somebody reviewing a drill just talking about the clicky action and sound of the drill switch.
I haven't noticed the lock rock on my small Magnacut insingo. But I guess I'm also not trying to recreate that. I do get a good amount of friction at times between the lock bar and the detent ball on my large S45VN drop point. But I'm guessing that's just how it's going to be with the detent ball on the titanium.
I am glad the Sebenza in Magnacut has worked out so awesomely for you. I want a Magnacut for my next knife and will wait a bit before deciding on one. I dont want to spend the money necessary to get a Sebenza but we'll see. Has Hogue improved the heat treat on their Deka? Are their other brands that know how to work with Magnacut?
Spyderco had released it’s Native 5 LW in Magna-Cut with an optimized HT. If you are Magna-Cut Curious. BGM fixed blade knives in Magna Cut are half the cost of a sebenza, John’s HT is excellent.
alright you win! YOU WIN!! just ordered my very first large Sebenza 31 in magnacut. dreamed and lusted over the sebenza since i was 12 years old, considered this the grail to end all grail knives for me. but, i have never been able to come to terms because of how expensive it is. This video was the straw the broke the camel's back..... After almost 15 years of wanting this damn knife. finally pulled the trigger, just pray i don't get a lemon! as always, i enjoy your videos (can't say the same for my wallet lol)
Not gonna lie s35vn is the worst steel in my opinion. Wayyyy tooo fuckin soft. S45 is ok but ya just a step ahead of s35, but just meh. The magnacut is fantastic though
Funny, Magnacut is tougher, but unless you run it towards the mid 60s in HRC it's not even close to S30V in edge retention. And that's according to Larin Thomas himself (or rather his test results). So what you might have experienced was a poor heat treat. Even then, these steels are so close I doubt you'd tell the difference in a blind test. S35VN just so happens to be the best balanced stainless steel, bar Magnacut, but yeah, it's the worst in your opinion and you just had to share that.
Thank you for this! Your channel has the best Sebenza reviews on the internet. You are a good communicator.
I really appreciate that. I try!
I concur with this statement! Excellent content.
