- Cummins Recall 67A Towing Test - Is this really what they did?!
Testing the new software with my 8500# tractor & trailer behind the truck. Lets see how it does compared now that it's legal compared to the previous "Cummins Spec"
Amazon shop: www.amazon.com/shop/aaronrose - ยานยนต์และพาหนะ
U say u can't tell any difference?? Well it's a 1.76 billion dollar difference!! N if it didn't change ur mpg u computer is wrong! They wouldn't of cheated if it was correct..right!!
Nope. No difference. Even towing 23000 lbs 500 miles. Same as it was before. It's the ability to run it without def when it runs out. They recalibrated the def gauge. IMO, that's all it was.
Got the 67A Emissions recall notice two days ago. Called Cummins cooperation to seek info on affective performance after PCM update. They denied wrongdoing and gave number to call Dodge/Chrystler. Called them and was told only Cummins would be able to answer that as they are the ones that manufacture the engines, but I could ask a mechanic at the dealership. Called dealership and they said all they do is re-program the PCM and do not do any post performance testing. My dad called a nephew who is a diesel mechanic and he said it depends on what the software flash consists of and that it could reduce vehicle performance. It's certainly encouraging to see and hear that you were not able to detect any change post the recall being done on your truck... "if update actually did make any software emission changes?" According to the lawsuit Cummins allegedly "installed types of devices to cheat federal environmental laws". So what is it, types of devices or Emissions software? Makes me wonder exactly what the heck is going on. My first suspicion would be that Attorney General Merrick Garland had a big hand in all this enviromental BS.
Agreed. The whole thing seems ridiculous at this point. I hope they eventually release the real details of the problem and the fix. Thanks!
I was thinking the same thing. The largest diesel engine manufacturer in North America is being fined for "devices" yet a software update will fix it? So which is it? A software issue or a device issue? I think that big government is just trying to shut them down.
@@aaronjohnson9072If they had installed a device…. Wouldn’t the solution be to remove the device ANd update the calibration?
@@MJ100k the point was there was not a device. It was just software
@@aaronjohnson9072 I agree- but my point is they should stop referring to it as a device. It’s misleading.
Greatly appreciate you doing this for the community, we are all intrigued by what the hell this update actually did. This gives some confidence in the meantime though...
The way I see it is that Cummins left a defeat code in their programming. This allows the possibility to delete your emissions and the truck still run. This recall most likely won't affect anyone that has a stock or legal reprogram. There is a part in the recall that says tbe recall will take about an hour plus whatever time the dealer needs to look over the truck for condition. (Paraphrasing) This is where those who no longer have emissions equipment will be screwed. They will then add up all the deleted trucks for whatever is next. As far as Cummins and Ram knows I lost my truck with all my guns in it during a fishing accident.
Until they suspend your registration...comming soon.
They "good ol days" are ending....and it's gonna suck and cost money.
@@youtubecantsaveallthesnowf8601only in CARB states…
D*** fishing accidents.
That works until your state wants to see a copy of the recall completed by a Ram dealer before you can renew your registration for your tag. Not knocking what you`re saying because I`m in the same boat.
I’m thinking these recalls are a back door way to bring all the trucks that lost some weight to the head of the class. Whether or not it was intentional or not. Weight loss owners would have to pack all the pounds back on and get it all working again or get their registrations flagged and or have their registrations flagged as unrenewable .
Lol! I'm glad nothing changed ,as you're towing capability. I just got my notice yesterday, And I have a two thousand fourteen, With the standard transmission and I wasn't going To go and do it. I may rethink that now thank you!
Thanks for video; great job! As a Cummins stockholder obviously I'm interested in this but from the financial prospective Cummins barely even reports on this "automotive" sector of their financial reports and I can't even find a previous earnings release where they or any reporters even mentioned the Ram engine program. Cummins indicates around $1.7 billion is annual sales related to the Ram engines and around $160 million in operating profits. So it appears the settlement was for a years worth of sales. As to how this happens? Well it's just how corporations work, nobody ever gets ahead by saying you decreased performance, spent more or took longer no matter how small the division as the objective is to move up to a bigger division & fly around 1st class one day with the kids in private school. In short this kind of stuff happens all the time some for better some for worse.
Appreciate the video(s). I’m gonna wait for a bit before I decide to get my truck done. I live in WA so no rush. I wouldn’t mind using more DEF if that’s all that comes out of this update. Got my letter this week.
My truck is a 22 missing factory particulate matter. No notice yet and I too in WA. I don’t use DEF hardly at all to be honest, though I seem to have lots of EGR. Around 65-75% running empty and cruising. Seems like a lot to me for EGR. So with my particulate matter recall for the missing sensor, maybe I’m using lots of EGR and that was how they could sell it until I can get one?? Maybe then I use a bit more DEF and less EGR????
Thank you for this test. I don’t think we have enough information to draw conclusions yet. There are not many details out now, but it sounds like the “defeat device” was not a physical thing but something that was found in software. It could be that the EPA just found a loop hole that permits a tuner to make unauthorized changes. It was probably found years after the engine was certified by the EPA. It could have been unintentional.
It’s entirely plausible that Cummins did not intensionally cheat on emissions testing like Volkswagen did. Cummins has been working hard to make emissions work in order to protect their market share in class 8 trucks. The allegation that Cummins intensionally cheated does not fit in with the company history. When we look at track records, the Department of Justice and this Attorney General have repeatedly lied and acted in unethical ways. The examples are numerous.
> When we look at track records, the Department of Justice and this Attorney General have repeatedly lied and acted in unethical ways.
Can you provide some examples?
I'm thankful for this video and you taking the time, dang, the haters in the comments section seem inhumane to me......people have lost their manners. Thanks again!!!!
I believe the 67A “recalibration” consequences will be measurable in: higher DEF consumption, EGR flow increase, & more regen frequency. Ultimately reducing hand-calculated MPG and DEF yield. Butt-o-meters over 150 mile trips may not capture the changes and reality. Pre and post dyno runs will tell if obvious detuning is programmed. But I speculate no actual direct detuning is taking place.
Precisely. There’s no such thing as a free lunch.
@@user-hw9lm1lf9nexactly backwards of what you said.
Lean mixtures burn hotter and NOx emissions are increased when combustion temperatures are high, so in order to reduce NOx emissions, the combustion temps must be lowered.
@@wzpu3283higher injection timing causes higher nox but lower egt so leaner it runs the cooler it runs the richer it runs the hotter it gets diesels and gasoline engines are opposite of each other Lean diesels don't smoke
you technically can't run diesel lean all it will do is loose power unlike gasoline engine leaner cause higher temps scorching piston skirts and liners. I tune semi trucks anytime you drop below 17 AFR you start getting smoke keeping diesel AFR around 18+ results in clean burning engine
You lower nox by retarding injection timing by retarding timing you get higher egt lower hp and torque.
I think a lot of the angst is that nobody seems to know what the heck the software update is supposed to do or "fix". As far as the settlement? That's just the corporate lawyers who say it is cheaper to recall and pay the fine than fight it out in court. I'm just glad to hear that the reflash didn't screw your truck up.
Wait, so Cummins has two options? fight the fine OR recall. I thought it would have been fine AND recall.
If this is just a recall and no fine, It's a big nothing burger.
thanks for doing this. i am less worried now.
Ford did an emissions update on the 6.7 about two years ago that altered the engine and transmission mapping and DEF use. Couldn't tell the difference afterwards and fuel mileage stayed the same. I'd suggest monitoring the DEF usage. That's the only difference I can detect with my Ford. My truck seems to use a little more DEF. But, that change was minimal I'd say under 5% more DEF is now used.
Thanks for the info. I have 2022 and hope for the same result when I get the recall notice.
The 19 and up trucks will have a different recall. Hopefully it's as inconsequential as my 17 seems to be. Thanks!
My understanding after the 2019 models were recalled in 2020 for emissions PCM upgrade due to a review after cummins reported their trucks getting 1,000' lb of torque with 400 HP, they are now doing the same recall on 2013-2018's and then next will be the 2020-2023 but date has not been released yet.
I had a particulate matter sensor recall on a 22 6.7 Cummins, which flashes the ecm fuel mileage is the same but burning alot more def fluid
I had the ecm update done a week ago, and the only noticeable difference is I’m using more def. Power and mileage is the same.
Sweet....I already use an unreasonable amount of pig piss.
The EPA is slowly killing this country.
These things use enough DEF! Seriously I have the HO/Aisin 4.10 DRW 2020 and in 6000 miles on a trip towing 9k airstream I used 6 boxes of 2.5gal platinum bludef
@@watchingvideos4309using more def is going to be an added expense now, I tow a 10900 gvwr trailer and then I’ll see what the real difference is. I still enjoy my truck and it still seems to operate well.
Some of the info I’m seeing with the new powerstrokes is they are def guzzlers also. Maybe that’s the EPA’s answer to the Nitrogen Oxides is more def.
I have a 2017 2500 4x4 Laramie. Los Angeles to Sacramento to Los Angeles 20 mpg hand calculated. Los Angeles to Longview, Texas and back towing a Grand Design 337 15.5 mpg with 550 mpg DEF.
I also have a 2017 ram 3500 dually bone stock with 4/10 gear ratio and the aisin transmission and have never got 18 mpg. Never. 13 would be about max empty at 70 mph or lessHave also been clear down to 5.2 pulling my 5th wheel which weighs about 16000. I will hold out as long as possible on this recall.
I have a 2014 2500, I’m going to wait and see what the final effects are. I appreciate your video and information. What gets me is that we are jumping through hoops in North America and Europe, while the rest of the world really don’t care about emissions or the environment. It’s all the same air, if we have to do this, everyone should do it, China included. They are supposed to be building more coal plants while the US is getting rid of them. I don’t think EV is the answer, technology and infrastructure is nowhere near ready to support it. I would agree with more diesel vehicles. I don’t see how a Volkswagen that gets over 50 mpg is polluting more than a gas vehicle at 20 mpg. I’m just a blue collar working guy, not a politician. Just my 2 cents.
You're right on. All this nonsense is just feel good virtue signaling bs. The true polluters will never listen to us. Thanks!
I got same recall 2 weeks ago in NY
This is why we stayed with a 2012 pre def last year of the real truck LOL
Question is: how much DEF is it using and what is the impact on DPF life?
Yet all these same trucks in California passed emissions prior to this..real head scratcher.
There is a recall. I just got mine in the mail yesterday. I'm waiting for more info before (if) I take mine in for the flash.
its just an update to the tune to de-rate the truck slightly to decrease emissions, likely increases the duty cycles on the treatment end.
I don't think so. See my new update video. Thanks!
Why would anyone get the update done? How does it benefit them? My ‘98.5 Cummins was so clean that it came from the factory without a catalytic converter. It just had a resonator and muffler. It’s still serving me well, but has 190k miles on it and dynos at 470hp at the rear wheels.
I've got DOT numbers, I'm real worried about update. Thanks for showing and letting us know. I pull 28k everyday, so I was real worried about it. Maybe I should get it done soon before they make it drastic.
Good luck. So far so good for mine in any case.
If you're worried than don't bring it in for the recall. Nothing saying you have to have it done
and now my other issue with HCU and Controller for ABS I'm dealing with RamCares to get a fix in place.
4.7-10.3 mpg before bleep!!!! Now I get 12.9 to 40.8 mpg when towing!!!! I'm running a 6.7 "fummins".
I always reset my mileage when Iam on hiway at speed and I do this because you mileage for your miles per gallon takes a long time to catch up so on hiway up to speed the set it and it will show you mileage then .
i got a recall 0n 2014 3500, last week!
I’m glad I still drive my old slow 2000 7.3L. Super duty. So question, if someday if my state mandates lower emissions like cali, where there strict, would I have to put DEF and cat on it?
Not saying it can't happen but it's highly unlikely. They'll probably do like CA does for big rigs and just not let the older ones into the state or not let you register it when they decide to get rid of them. Thanks!
Nice video and nice truck. Never did get the goofy mirrors dodge has though 🤣
I will say with them in the down position you cant see crap🙃
Its a real work truck, not a city slicker
@@bbrcummins1984 still doesn’t excuse those goofy mirrors 🙄
Got my
recall 0n my 2017 . I think it is a way feds are going to find out all deleted trucks. Probably if you do the recall. You will not be able to renew tags. This is really bad.
I can say straight off after driving Toyotas all my life ,Aisin makes pretty much all their transmissions too, shifting is woeful, but most of them are indestructible.
I think you might see a change after 10kish miles after youve refilled your def tank a vouple of times.
I bet ya turned the dpf up as in burn more def fluid
Why are your ABS lights not on ?? Had a history with those ? I have .
Plan on increase DEF usage and you best be pulling your EGR and cleaning it out.
A lot of diesel guys have been dealing with increased EGR issues and DEF consumption.
My thought on this is that the emissions might have been slightly out of compliance. The requirements for emissions now is so over the top that its frankly getting out of hand. i wonder if the government really is out of cash and looking to fine anyone they can. That would be something haha.
It’s mainly about them permanently locking the ECM to keep anyone from ever reprogramming it with any aftermarket delete programmers ! That’s what this is really about but that cannot say that in the recall because no one would carry their vehicle into the dealership for that …..
Might be. If that is all it is though, and it wasn't actually "polluting", I wouldn't understand the big fine. Look at all the HP Tuners stuff that can be done to Chevys. The whole thing seems really screwy at this point. I do hope that we can eventually find out exactly what the issue is and what they had to change. Thanks!
If that is it, the 22 and newer trucks shouldn't get a recall because those ecms are locked down.
They are not locking the older ecms
@@EricWulffdo you have a reliable source for that statement, or some type of proof?
@@mx3727 from mechanics at ram
I have a 2016 6.7 2500. The last time at the dealer they said there was a update for
The transmission for a couple hundred dollars. I did the update and definitely feel the difference. Maybe there's one for yours.
Thanks! When I take it back to fix the current leaks I'll ask.
Let us know if there was one. Thanks
One more thing to add California's smog requirements, and clean air act laws are more strict than the federal governments. DO NOT ALLOW CALIFORNIAS TO MOVE TON YOUR STATE. MAKE THEM LEAVE!!!
Louisiana speed bump, aka the roads. All of them.
I’m thinking it’s a lot like the VW thing where maybe it was just programmed differently when hooked to OBD2 thinking it was getting smogged, now will the government figure that out and come back even harder, who knows. It will be interesting if DEF consumusion increases because of this, I just wonder how many people actually track the mpg for DEF though.
I have heard they are going to lock u out of the ECM so u can’t go in and change things yourself after update is done.
Did you notice if the regen cycles went up or more def being consumed? Thanks.
I've never been able to tell when it does a regen. So far I think it is using more def but I can't quantify it.
Now, if you try to run a programer with the recall dune. The check engine light will stay on untill you replace the ECM.
CARB wanted to keep my 2013 3500 G56 Cummins for 1-2 months around 2015-6 after the VW fiasco. They offered to pay $5000 to borrow the truck and stated if they ended up destroying the truck, would pay fair market value. Needless to say, I never responded and have since left commiefornia. Trucks running good
Honestly im more curious about what will happen to Duramax and Powerstroke models next.. Since the 6.6 and 6.7 both make more power than the cummins turbo 6 cylinder. Will they go after them next? It really makes no sense to me why cummins would have to shovel out billions over a new tune that possibly just consumes a bit more DEF.. only time will tell i guess!
Volkswagen’s goal was to keep their cars from needing a DEF/SCR system to meet NOX emissions. It seems weird that Cummins would need to play those games since they already included the full suite of emissions equipment. It will be interesting to see if the flash causes your DEF usage to go up over the long haul.
19+ CTD use alot more DEF compared to my old ‘18 CTD. Unloaded or loaded.
@@Mill72 yeah....its pretty unreasonable. I have a 22.
@@Mill72you know it sucks to have to fill it up and such but honestly i think id rather blow thru is quicker so it doesnt sit too long in my tank not sure if thats gonna matter or make any dif at all but my 22 seems about right i do 30k a yr hardly any towing and im at 43k no issues on anything except my window bracket in the door stripped out during a freeze last winter they fixed it in a day under warranty no questions so guess we will see soon enough
@@HVTMuddvain Oh I’m not complaining. Just pointing out the difference. More DEF use means less egr. So I’m good with that. DEF price is kinda moot when you spend extra for the diesel engine, fuel, maintenance, etc.
All the new software flash is utilizing more DEF to cut down Nox. That’s why the 20+ trucks use more than the ‘13-‘18. That’s why 20+ will not be recalled. Done from factory.
🔌🔌This is not like VW diesel gate. My guess is in 2019 Cuumins found out that they mistakenly allowed a specific vehicle manufacturer and their dealerships the option to override emissions by simply logging into the ECM software and shutting off the bit that controls emissions. It probably took the EPA this long to figure out where to point the finger. This defeat option was not given to their other vehicle manufacturers using the ir non-preparatory engines which is why it only affects Dodge.🔌🔌
Regen more to make cat work better to reduce NOX when under heavy load. Its exh temp problem. Won’t affect when normal driving at sea level and level ground.
I believe the issue at hand is Ram not meeting certain emotions requirements and not necessarily HP, torque or DEF usage ratings that the avg customer like you or I can see or tell from. ✌🏽
I'm hoping so. That just makes it all the more ridiculous. If they cheated on something that would not have been noticeable in the first place, it just makes no sense. Thanks!
@@aaronsrose yep I hear ya! ✌🏽
Now do it with close to maxed out trailer. I tow a 21k lbs trailer and even tho I don’t have an HO I have a 24k tow rating and my truck already doesn’t care to pull that much. I don’t wanna loose any power nor mpg and don’t need to burn up anymore def then it already does. (Burns a half tank of def in about 7 hours of towing)
2018 Ram 2500 4x4. Drove mine back after update from Red Bluff to Paradise. Could not tell any difference in power or gas mileage and I pushed it, just for feel.
So far so good!
Thats crazy...if the EPA needed some money they should have just asked...lol
😂😂
Nice test. I agree if this is it it seems pointless to have “cheated”. But that doesn’t mean it wasn’t more of a miscalculation or something. The epa is going full ATF on everyone. Even made a guy scrap his deleted truck.
Now I see a Banks decal. What does that do? Did they give you grief about it. I know that a lot of people seem to modify their cummins trucks. Did they/would they make someone disable their chips?
I've got a full emissions compliant intake plate and horn replacement from banks on the truck. Everything still stays on and the computer program is not touched. (Even came with CARB cert stickers for under the hood.) I did it mainly for the grid heater elimination but it looks cool too. Otherwise, I really didn't see much if anything noticeably different after I installed it. Thanks!
The recall was already out when the lawsuit was announced. We don't even know at the dealer level what it's changing.
Ok Aaron, I want to know how it is with 4.10 gears you get 18mpg unloaded?!!
I got an ‘18 2500 and struggle to get 13…😢
Big thing is I drive really slow and have 100 mile round trips to work that are 90% highway. Also Power Service Diesel Kleen cetane additive made a 10% improvement in fuel economy. I'm not typically an additive guy but I don't leave home without that one anymore.
Benefit of the doubt, the feds don't want workers soaking in toxic levels NOx gases because of defeat devices. Workers on jobs sites or garages should be celebrating protecting their lungs.
my unit sucks down DEF now and even more per gallon when towing a 28' enclosed loaded - so mixing more DEF was all they are doing
If all the Cummins owners stand up and tell them fu** off this BS would stop....
The legal Binding court document says "DEFEAT DEVICE" which means a physical thing attached to the vehicle, would be nice to know what "DEVICE" we need to unplug, or remove to comply.
Even when complying with BS EPA crap the Cummins never seizes to amaze!
Def sales were low so this will help them sale more DEF!
My guess... You will be using more DEF to reduce more NOx.
I just got the RECALL notification last week. I definitely have the wait and see attitude about it. But if it makes no real difference in performance then you do need to question why? This is costing over $1.7 Billion ?
That's the big question for my. I have a ridiculous conspiracy theory in my head. I may put on a literal tinfoil had and make another video. :-)
The update probably locks the PCM so you can’t install delete programming. I doubt there are any performance changes.
You hit the nail on the head. Because now 22 and up delete is $6000 because it requires a purchase of a non-flashed ECM.
I bet your right. Another way to Crack down on deleting
Many guys did the recall on deleted trucks. They were able to reupload their tune right after. The ecm lockup is a lie.
I see that is a 4th gen. I thought this all started with the 5th. Unfortunately for me I don't live in California or a state that much cares about the EPA. Might retire out of the country anyway.
I still have not seen any figures on the missions.
What are the numbers
That is what we all want to know. What was "wrong" and what was the "fix". Just letting us hang is not going to end well. Thanks!
It’s been stated they increased the DEF injection and the amount of EGR. So you will be cleaning the EGR more frequently, which is a terrible job, if not don will kill the engine.
So what the recall actually did is that before the recall if the truck ran out of DEF the truck would continue to run at normal operation for around 50 miles before going into limp mode. And California pencil pushers didn’t like that because that would mean that the truck could pollute too much. So they had the recall set to where the truck will now go into limp mode when you have 10 to 15% (1/8th of a tank) of DEF left in the tank. So it’s not actually that the truck is using more DEF it’s that now. The needle is moving accurately with the usage of it.
I agree. That's what my test said when I ran it out and refilled. The needle now shows lower.
What were you expecting from this software update? Emissions output can't be felt seat of the pants, it has to be measured at the tail pipe.
I was honestly expecting the thing to become undrivable like the Old VW's and ecodiesels were after their updates. So far, No issues.
@aaronsrose I guess I could see those fears. I work in the heavy duty diesel truck industry and we are constantly doing software updates due to emissions controls not meeting specs and we never have any issues with power. If you think about it as the years have gone on and emissions requirements have become more and more strict our horsepower has constantly gone up with it. Back in the day if you had a 425 horse motor you were top dog! Now our little engine puts that out in its lower rating. We are having to treat the exhaust after the fact and the systems we use are pretty efficient so we can send some pretty dirty stuff into them and they can clean it up it seems.
Yes shifts bad, but bullet proof, unlike the Chrysler trans
They could've caused the trucks to use more DEF. I had the "update" done on mine too, and I don't notice any difference.
I just towed 23klbs 500 miles and it seemed to act exactly the same as it did before. Still nothing I can tell different. Thanks!
This whole def system is already a joke
8:16 well I think they just reflashed the comp, and Cummins don't give a dam about the Fed's 😅 may God bless Cummins, given the people exactly what they want, a truck that works
11:24 I'm telling yea, Cummins might of just unlocked more power 😉
13:16 they might of bite off a little bitty but of boost, but I doubt it
My Ram won' t pass emissions since the recall. Turning into a mess.
With so little to come in compliance, I hope you save some of that energy for your government 😂
What about def consumption?
Small sample size but it seems close to normal. Maybe a little more. Can't really tell yet. Thanks!
You get over 18 miles per gallon ?
Howdy! Yep. Unloaded and driving like a grandma, this pig can get between 17-20 mpg. 90% highway helps out a lot. Thanks!
Will the new software cause trucks that use a tuner to not run correctly? I believe that’s what update if for. Because Cummins is blamed for “knowingly” installing software that can be defeated.
Cummings will make that 1.7 Billion back when the intake manifolds start sooting up. Best bet is dont idle for any length of time.
I've made it a point to not do that entirely. I try to not use the truck unless I have at least a 50 mile trip.
I kind of think this is to back the guys who deleted their trucks in a corner. A few states already stated that they will not register these trucks until the update has been done which is probably nothing really at all but an inspection on the dealers part.
Do to lack of details regarding exactly what Cummins was alleged to have done and the fact that they are still saying they had no wrong doing my best guess is this the US Govt doing whatever they can to get rid of Diesel engines. They don’t want them, those are their words not mine. Furthermore there is a video out showing brand new Ford HD Diesel trucks from the factory without any emissions equipment on them whatsoever. Allegedly purchased by our own govt
The objective of the new update is a derate function. Some trucks didn’t have this aka defeated emissions
It seems insane to risk the Diesel emission proficiency reputation Cummins has earned since the mid 2010s. There are many interests that want to regulate away Diesel engines and this makes their case stronger. In VW Diesel Gate and with Cummins and other HD on road Diesel engine producers being caught for defeating the 2010 HD on road diesel emission requirements a decade ago, Diesel emission ability to run comparatively clean was just making itself apparent. Nobody is as good at building long term HD Diesel emission engines for road use in the USA than Cummins. Both Paccar MX and Detroit Diesel DD series of on-road HD Diesels make use of Cummins emission system parts. Only Volvo / Mack doesn't officially use Cummins emission system parts and they have the worst fuel efficiency of the big four. The big question is what has Cummins been doing with the emission systems on their HD on-road Diesel emission systems used in their own Cummins X15 and parts used in the Paccar MX13 and Detroit Diesel DD15 and similar models.
If you read the EPA suit, it was pre 19s that used less DEF under certain conditions. 19+ was not considered to produce more emissions, but had conditions not submitted to the EPA lol all a bunch of BS
REMEMBER WHEN FREIGHTLINER USED THAT TRANSMISSION WAS A MISTAKE JUNK
You give TFL too much credit they don’t have all the data , they have too many variables, they run it mid day they should be running these tests at 2am so traffic isn’t an issue. Traffic ,speed and temperature variables are all constantly affecting results .TFLs truck isn’t even affected by the recall.
The question we all should be asking is what are the fines going to. Are the fines some how going towards fixing other climate issues besides suing companies out of existence, or in this case increasing the cost to own a truck. Compared to what the epa did to a towing firm the fine is small. 900 mil may be less, but it was a small entity that had to pay, and that owner is sitting in jail right now for the nest 10 years just to make his trucks more reliable.
I believe how your truck performs is going to be based on state to state. Your emissions and smog requirements are going to very. As I stated in a previous video you posted, California assisted, and probably led the investigation against cummins. Therefore, trucks in California are probably going to see performances issues because of the strict air quality guidelines.
It's definitely going to be interesting to see other results. I've been under the impression that at least for the last 10 years or so all US vehicles are CARB compliant. Will be interesting if the California trucks see any different results. Thanks!
Hint If California was involved in this investigation its because California is wanting to make Diesel powered vehicles obsolete by 2040. I purchased in 1991 a 92 Dodge Dakota with a 5.2l every year it went in for a smog test every year the maximum NOx and CO2 limits got more and more stringent, My point is if a manufacturer like Dodge/Cummins certify a vehicle in a set of paramotors to achieve their emissions goal, but California changes that goal and expects the manufacturer to be responsible for the change. Don't put it against California and CARB because they're fn crooked as they come. Take it from a former Resident of California. I still have smog certificates from that truck in my files. I sold that truck in 2009 and from 91 with the initial smog cert to the last each year was different.
some counties in ca dont have smog tests
Matt Bowers truck?
Yep. Back when they were in St Francisville.
I belie ve they are doing nothing, they reflash the emission computer with the same spec, then they can't be held responsible twice (double Jeopardy ?
The difference is, or will be, the valves will coke up!!
That's what I'm wondering, if they increased the EGR flow.
@@aaronsrose That would correlate with your percieved increase use of DEF. Most likely mileage will reduce as more regens will be required as well.
Hearing that this recall uses more DEF....NOT GOOD. I'll wait till I can sue them.
The only thing done to the computer is they lock it so it can't be deleted. But of course, someone will hack it. And the deletes will start again.
Yes, let's use more def. More plastic containers and cardboard. Because that'll save the environment........
🤣
The only solid answers are gonna be revealed in the new tuning files and comparing them to the old files. Driving it will reveal nada
The recall is just the government trying to take all the deleted trucks off the road... most likely they dont even touch anything just inspect and hook to the obd to see if its been flashed... this is my opinion
what if you dont do the recall?
If you don't live in CA it probably won't matter at all.
I live in Texas and I’ll never have it done.
Does your state require an emissions test to renew your registration every year? If they do, I would highly recommend getting the recall done. If they don't require an emissions test, do what you want.
@@BigBadJohnDiesel I live in Texas, we don’t do emissions testing out of the big cities. Next year the whole state is doing away with safety inspections for registration requirements.
@@aaronsrose I do live in ca but my county doesnt require a smog test...
