Thanks so much for your generosity in going to the trouble of making the videos and sharing them online - absolutely brilliant! I recently found a '79 XT which I'm in the process of getting road-ready. Your videos have been incredibly informative and helpful. Thanks again.
Hey Chris. Coming to you from sunny south Australia. Doing exactly what you are doing to an 1978 thumper. Got heaps of great tips from you, been getting lots of quality and oem bits from the company kedo.these bikes are revered around the world so I'm doing right to mine.say a prayer for me as the rear tube is next without your tools!Cheers bloke.
Welcome Stuart and great advice! I have ordered some parts from KedoUSA.. I think it's the same company. I hope your restoration goes well and as far as the rear tube... I fall back to the spoons when needed.. I pinched many tubes before I learned the trick of partially inflating the tube before trying to get the tire on... and even then I still pinch tubes.... Good luck!
So how did you make the chrome parts look like that? Did you paint them because the rust had eaten into that chrome. I'm curious as I need to refurbish those parts. The shock and springs are already done.
This bike is going to be so cool. Good work as usual Chris. Always learning from you. 👍

Absolutely. These old bikes are great and worth saving. I am glad to hear you have an XT and are bringing it back!
Very clever! Well done.
Congratulations ! Not sure so many XT 500 enthousiasts would have the inspiration to restaure their shocks like you do !
Brilliant - love your videos!

AWESOME JOB 👍👍👍
You can just use two screwdrivers and a mate and compress the spring by hand. Enjoy the rebuild
Good job brother.

Thanks for the question. Mine were badly pitted so I glass bead blasted them and then painted them silver.
