    Question for you, has it been sitting for an extended period of time & have you changed the oil? Mine sat for about 5 years, the second time I had mine running, I got it hot enough to do a complete oil change.

      @@andrewfarrant198 good questions. Yes, it sat for several years and was stuck in 5th gear. I did not show it but it has a fresh oil change and filter. Once I get it rolling for a few miles and run it through all 6 gears, I will change the oil again.

    Funny enough I was just playing with my 84, got the clutch finally working. Took it outside, it's 50* here in New York, ran it through the gears because the clutch was sticking, I was able to do a lap around the house with no tank or seat on it. Rear wheel wouldn't release with the clutch pulled in & in gear, now it does since I rode it.

    My boot are rock hard too, I ended up gingerly prying the carbs off, was told a heat gun helps warm the boots up. I have the non California carbs. I replaced all the jets with factory kehin jets I got through carbs r us. I was able to pop the carbs back on with just a little difficulty, but popped back into place. I hooked both throttle cables up before re-installing because it's damn near impossible to hook up when installed. Hello, I checked to see if my engine was pumping oil by cranking it over by hand many many times. I lubricated the piston, rings and cam and kept spinning by hand until I had oil pumping up the feeder line that goes to the head. Not sure if this is an actual procedure but it is what I did. My engine was fully installed in the bike at the time.

  • @kevinproctor8743
    @kevinproctor8743 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Hi Chris, new to your channel, recommended by DaleS. Great stuff, keep it up. Unlike plain metal bearings or cam running directly in the head, roller bearings do not require a running clearance for any oil film. So they are not loose in the head Typically roller ball bearings are zero clearance. By this I mean the bearing and bore are size for size or just a slight preload with the bore being smaller. Therefore hard to measure this with Plastigauge. If your clearance checks were a little inconclusive then I would have tried checking camshaft rotational torque of the camshaft in the old head and the new head. Once again hard to measure accurately but rotation by hand and feel would be close enough to provide comfort in the swapped parts
