- Sooner or later every comic has to deal with some opinionated audience member. Generally these hecklers are awful because they mess up timing and pacing for the comic, and tend to throw the entire show off balance, therefore ruining the show for all other paying customers.
SOMETIMES though, hecklers add a great new element to live comedy. Given that the person they're ripping on makes fun of shit for a living, there's always a good chance that heckler will get thoroughly owned.
With that, here are great instances in which hecklers were properly put in their place.

Joan was a beast and in a profession dominated by men and where women had to fight 10x harder, she rose to the top and that says a lot.

@@wheeloftime2908 Comedians are typically people who were picked on, beat up and made fun of for most their childhood. Many of them used humor as a defense mechanism. They learned how to engage with and distract other kids with jokes, impressions and sometimes insults.
When they got into comedy, they had to battle every week for stage time and had to deal with drunken hecklers dozens of times, just so they could perform their acts. Standing on a stage all alone and trying to hold everyone's attention and make them laugh, is one of the hardest forms of entertainment performance.
Hecklers can throw off a comedians timing and distract them. It's like hearing an echo when you speak that doesn't match your voice. Comedians aren't being mean when they rip into hecklers. It's the hecklers who are being complete selfish assholes by demanding attention, when people paid good money to pay attention to someone else.
I think it would great if it were legal for crowds to beat hecklers sensless, so badly that they would wake up in the hospital wondering how they got there. And then, they could be told, they were heckling a perfomer and got what they wanted, attention. Maybe that would wake these assholes up, because nobody paid to listen their dumb asses talk to the performers.

Sometimes hecklers save shows. One time, an old veteran comedian was running out of material at a long show, which is understandable. And everyone was getting stale and overwhelmed. A heckler booed him and gave him a little more material to continue the show. Of course the heckler roasted and blasted, but in the back of his mind he was like "jackpot" lol 😆
