    Seeing the Kobayashi Maru, even as a simulation ship, has a certain refreshness too it. Likely because so much of Star Trek Movies and Shows place so much focus on the top tier explorers with the nearly best gear, that is always getting into fights, that the mere idea of day to day operation that make an organization even work, get so far removed from a viewers mind, that it often feels like StarFleet and the Federation has no such thing as supply lines and maintanance crews that go out doing cargo runs, preforming maintenance and all the things that would even keep any organization of such scope, capable of functioning at all what so ever. The sheer level of lacking any focus on ships meant for those purposes, makes it Starfleet and the federation overly magical to the point of unbelieve-ability. It makes Star Trek feel, like despite its massiveness in its universe, there are excessively huge gaps inside it, that need filling and exploring, too such a degree that even a mere simulation only ship, that is meant to be a necessary cargo logistics role feels like a much needed addition to the entire universe, even though its very mention is as far back as the TOS. The mere fact that there was never an actually completed ship model until just recently, shows a certain, overly magical, huge gap, in the over all universe.

      Absolutely true, I love this ship and wish we could see more support ships and their crews in Star Trek.

    with this, the franklin, the kelvin, the discovery ships and the kelvin ships i'm starting to really like the pre-Star Trek Motion Picture era ships over the TNG and later stuff

    I got this ship just this year, I quite like her and think her paint job is spot on for a work horse of a ship that never stops hauling the mail. Cheers!

    I always thought of the Maru as a civilian vessel, but it has a USS and is displaying Starfleet pennants.

  • @mars0395
    @mars0395 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Maru is a suffix added to the name of merchant vessels in the Japanese fleet. It is extraneous to call her the USS Kobayashi Maru. In Wrath of Khan there was no USS. Its like saying PIN number or ATM machine.

      mars threeninesix And yet people do, what’s to point in arguing against commonly accepted linguistics?

    • @mars0395
      @mars0395 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@DrewLSsix well in that case, we should call it the USS HMS Bounty

    • @DrewLSsix
      @DrewLSsix 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      mars threeninesix Why should we? All I’m saying is someone some time may adopt that strange to us standard as part of regular discourse. Quite a lot of what you say on a regular basis would be perplexing to people three hundred years ago, right down to the way you structure your sentences.
      What’s really weird is these people are further from us than the US founding fathers and have experienced a world altering apocalypse! yet they mostly talk just like 1960s (or 70s 80s 90s etc) Americans.
      Like with aliens seemingly conversing in english we can assume they likely are speaking in a slightly altered dialect but we are being shown a non diegetic interpretation of that to make viewing easier.

    The saucer and the deflector array looks very similar to the design in ships of the line book 2nd edition of the USS Bonaventure.

    They should have gone with screen accurate, or the 1st John Eaves design, as they both look better, I quite like the paint though...

    I'd like the koboyashi maru test to have a rescue solution that was really complicated. That way, it would really test the candidates intelligence if they found the answer! If you know there is no way to win, then you're not really going to be too bothered what you do.

    i love this ship quite different than what we had in the past. like you i thought that it would been a lot better with simpler paint as the enterprise and the kelvin.

    Another great review I've been waiting for this model. I like the different feel of the Kelvin ships.

      @misha5670 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sure, they aren't half bad. The Klingon battlecruiser (aka Warbird) is my favorite....wait, maybe its the Franklin? Hell I don't know, there are some neat ones.

  • @mickeyholding7970

    The cargo ships from Enterprise are much more practical and logical than what we see in this instance which looks like it won't haul much.

  • @KrytenMark
    @KrytenMark 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I'd say this overall look for the Kobayashi Maru definitely appeals to me, especially in the case of the Kelvin Timeline. And, personally speaking, I'd say this particular paint job kind-of works in its favour anyway. I mean, to be fair, it IS a simple freighter, and not a dashing space explorer like the likes of the USS Kelvin or the USS Enterprise alike. Personally, I'd say I quite like this one myself. Simple, yet intriguing as well. :)

    The no win scenario never made much sense due to the fact the crew coming into the scenario knew they couldn't win and no lives were at stake ,
    I understand its point was to test how they would handle this but knowing it was nothing more than a game it was nothing more than acting

  • @miles2378

    It does remind me of the evac ships in STO Age of Discovery "defence of Starbase one" mission.

    Read a Star Trek novel based on the ship where captain archer tried to rescue kobiyashi but couldn’t and ordered to retreat instead of rescuing which could lead to the destruction of the nx enterprise. Archer was not someone who would give up that easily. But these situation helps future captains about trying to do anything to win even a loss of their own ship and crew. Kirk doesn’t believe in no win scenarios.

  • @mastercrafterandcollector201
    @mastercrafterandcollector201 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    My philosophy in a no-win scenario is evacuate all crew members and ram the ship into the danger autopilot or manual
    I'm realising now I would be doing the exact same as George Kirk. Ah well

    I like it, but seems more like a work horse/moving truck of the pre-Federation Starfleet than a what a Starfleet ship would have been used for.

    This ship reminds me of an USNS AOR, a technically civilian merchant marine designed to far flung support task groups on operation.

      I know EM doesn't do dynamic models, but if they did removable/interchangible cargo pods, that would be pretty neat. Back in the old FASA days, we had a couple small game piece models that you could do that with; it was entertaining just to mix up configurations on a rainy afternoon.

      Sometimes EM can barely glue plastic together, do you really want them trying anything to do with electronics? hehe I say this as a big fan of the series, just being realistic about the company's abilities.
