Nothing but happy family holiday memories of Blackpool and the Pleasure Beach. Last time I was there 3 years ago, I couldn’t believe how much it had changed, everything seemed so run down. Fantastic to see the Log Flume again, we managed to get my great grannie on it when she was in her eighties! Now, like so many things, both gone, but still missed and loved.
Can't help feeling nostalgic watching these scenes. So many classic rides that have bit the dust..log flume, wild mouse, monster, space invader. My favourite ride as a kid was the monorail - I remember the little chap that used to drive it, Teddy Askey. Happy days!
I remember them building the Pepsi Max, then when it was built looking over from my classroom at Palatine High School. I was 11 then, great memories of a time when Blackpool was on top form. I don't live in Blackpool anymore, but it will always be home, growing up there, coming of age there, going to collage in Bispham, then ultimately leaving in 2004. I had a drive over a couple of years ago, and was shocked by how much it's changed, and was gutted to see that Palatine had been demolished, had some great memories of Palatine and my form tutor Mr Whalley, and what a Whalley he was, in a good way 😂
Blackpool was completely different in those days, the widespread deprivation hadn’t started to set in yet. The Pleasure Beach was magical as a kid, it still had strong elements of the bygone era with new exciting projects on the horizon. I remember late night openings, it was always better at night with the lights and buzz of chaos. Had many family trips that will be forever remembered.
1993 was the one year I never came to Blackpool at all as we had our car broken into at Talbot Road Bus Station multi stoey car park tge year previously
Surprising how clean and fresh all the rides look, even though some of them were very old even back then they appear to look after them a lot better than they do now. I've never seen a log flume trough so clean, and even the wooden coasters are pristine white!
Fantastic memories xx I was 19 in 1993, never away from the pleasure Beach lol...log flume, wild mouse, Coasters and The Star....all sadly gone now x great video...thank you!🥰
The park looked so well kept. I assume they’re going for the ‘natural’ look now whilst slowly replacing all the wood on the woodies, but my god they look like a state at the moment. Look so fresh and clean here!
@@richards9750 basically the reason they don’t paint them is because paint eventually cracks, and then water gets inside the cracks and it has nowhere to go and it ends up going inside the woods and then making the wood rot. At least that’s what Alex the technical director was saying when we had a Q&A with him at Pleasure Beach experience.
Childhood memories of this wonderful theme park. Free to enter and you could purchase books of tickets. A, B, C and D ride tickets. Noahs arc you could walk round. The excellent monorail and log flume that are sadly missed. Wild mouse was a death trap.
Back when they were pushing boundaries and not building hotels. Many good memories in the 90's coming here as a kid with my family...Beaver creek and the zipper dipper, onto Avalanche and eventually the big one. Simpler times.
ThemeParkLuke i remember riding it too ...BUT not at Blackpool! ....The water chute in Blackpool actualy came from Bele Vue when that closed down soooo i remember riding it there as a kid in the 70s! ...yes i am that old 🤣🤣
There used to be a ride there in the 80’s called “The Ranger”, a smaller enclosed pirate ship but went full 360, it was terrifying. I remember one of the restraints not working and there was just a note on it saying do not use!! Health & safety back then hey? Also getting rid of the wild mouse was a terrible decision, was one of the best white knuckle rides in the park but “The Revolution” was always my favourite, must have rode it several hundred times all in all. Great vid and thanks for sharing.
Great video! That was the year they experimented with 4 Carriage Trains on the Woodies. I think that the airtime was so extreme in the back rows that they had to go back to 3 Carriage Trains the year after!
I love your posts mate. I'm fro the gen of the Revolution being the best coaster, loved the Tidal Wave, Log Flume and does anyone remember The Octopus? All the best oldies are still there. Love all the new ones too.
Thank you! I’ve been truly overwhelmed by the amount and views and nice comments this video has got! I still love the pleasure beach but I much preferred it back then when you could just walk in and the place would stay open after dark. Back seat of the Revolution still scares me more than big one or Icon any day!
From 1975 to 2018 - I visited most years, sometimes went two or three times a year, lived and worked in the Town when I was 19 Not been back since September 2018 - Sadly the Town has fell off a cliff. Great Video anyway, life wasn't perfect back in 1993 - BUT it was a LOT better that what the UK is now.
Amazing stuff 👏 I was there then loved it 😀 ❤ since 1977 now again in April 45 years on, it's changed somethings good and some6bad, but what Geoffrey Thompson and his mum started did to transform the town of Blackpool with the pleasure Beach and put it on the map was fantastic.
awesome brings back some fantastic memeries going here with my mum and dad, sister and brother and paying 50p to go on each ride, and i still go to this day in 2022 when i can with my son whos 20 now.
Wow! As someone born in the 21st century it seems so surreal to look at a completely different Blackpool. The waterways, open grassland and a entirely absent Area of the park complete with a pirate ship (where Valhalla currently is) creates a stark contrast I don’t think the newer theme park has declined or become run down or anything like that, but The past is definitely being ignored for the future. Some parts of the park such as the area around the Big Dipper and grand National have gotten no love with most of the buildings being empty. The area where the wild mouse used to be is just a hole. whereas across the park Icon and Big one are clearly kept to a higher standard. It’s saddening to see infusions water fountains next to a rotting train track, or the monorail tracks awkwardly stood in the shadow of the big one. It’s infuriating to see Blackpool ignore parts of the park that are around 100 years old and instead putting all its money on new investments in a attempt to rival Merlin.
A themepark has to offer new experiences otherwise like any other attraction people stop coming. its now a modern themepark not a fun fair or museum. Should blackpool tower not of had its recent makeover and look how it did in 1894? should its circus still have elephants as part of the show. things have to change.
Back then no worries for me just pure joyness been there and it's a year ish befire the big one was opened, looks like it only took a year to make the big one 🙄
if you could drop my mother 'ever so slightly accidentally on purpose', she'd laugh along with it. in fact, the last time she was on the pleasure beach, she laughed at it so hard she drew a crowd. I tried to pretend she wasn't with me - failed! 🤣
Wow Dipper the revolution used to fly, they look much faster than these days. All the false hype for Big One is so funny, knowing now that it would never be anywhere near as good as Magnum which had already been open 4 years!
Hi thank you for posting this video my best friend Richard was thrown from that rid the grand nashonol and was smashed to bits one minute he was there the next he was gone I now because I was sat next to him it was Asham wot happened to him but the staff tried blaming him but he wasent dooing enething wrong
That's absolutely tragic, I'm sorry to read this but not suprised it happened to somebody. I once spent the entire ride holding my brother in because he was so thin the lap bar wasn't doing so. The lap bars drop further down now if I'm not mistaken.
Back when the park was magical as a kid…. And with more rides a better feel and atmosphere to the park, And free to enter!!! Great upload
Couldn't agree more,
Turned the pleasure beach into white knuckle rides. Not like it was!
I for one would take that log flume over infusion
@@Tommo1983ful Me too!
I agree with the last part the pleasure beach is so expensive now the price just keeps rising
Wonderful memories, thanks for sharing. Wish Britain could go back to that era.

90's best decade ever.best cars, best music, was absolutely buzzin growing up then as a teen.
Totally agree. Glad I'm not a teenager now.
Yeah

explain deprivation ? regarding the country please....
Why do they shut it early now?? love the Roller coaster chaser lights.
Isn’t it obvious. The ‘90s now seem like a bygone era - golden years.

Superb footage. I recall those cracking views of the Big Dipper and Log Flume from right at the top of the Giant Slide beside the Turtle Chase. Bliss!
The park looked so well kept. I assume they’re going for the ‘natural’ look now whilst slowly replacing all the wood on the woodies, but my god they look like a state at the moment. Look so fresh and clean here!
They treat the wood on the woodies now instead of painting because paint speeds up the rotting process supposedly.
Believe me, it is NOTHING like it was back in 99, when I started working there. It absolutely breaks my heart to see it now
@@richards9750 basically the reason they don’t paint them is because paint eventually cracks, and then water gets inside the cracks and it has nowhere to go and it ends up going inside the woods and then making the wood rot.

Brilliant! Brought back lots of lovely memories!
Lovely video, bringing back some really happy memories. When Blackpool was Blackpool worth going to!
Thanks for sharing. Some really good shots in there.
Omg the Octopus ride, I remember that as you walked right in. So scary.
Its weird looking at it without the Pepsi Max so strange
First thing I see when I went in I was 8 going on 9 at this point in time lol year befire the big one memories of Blackpool staying in caravans
This is awesome! I remember riding "Water Chute" when I was really really young!

This certainly brought back some childhood memories!!! Brilliant
What a brilliant video!
That took me back. Brilliant!
Great footage of the park, it was good back then and free to enter.
No mobile phones just people enjoying the moment
Loved the park in the 90s as a child
This video brought back so many memories 🥲 Thank you so much. I was 11 back then.
Glad you enjoyed it
2:29 Damn son! The turtle chase! That was a Kickass ride

Wonderful video giving childhood flashbacks. Not least to the days when camcorders took full VHS tapes and would shoulder held :)

The Big Dipper looked so clean, all nicely painted in white. It looks rotten now.
Totally agree...and the nash too!
Thought I was the only one could remember the big supper.
Dipper,not supper!
Aww loved this. Back when the woodies had 4 trains. Maybe that's what Grand National needs again lol
Great video

Good old days when you could afford to go in. Now they are charging £8 for Crazy Golf at the entrance. Blackpool needs to have a word with itself
6:22 LISTEN!!!! Ahh what a classic laugh.
This is amazing when the pleasure beach was better not the same anymore it's a ripoff now brilliant memories great video stay safe take care 👍
Monorail with its epic views , I wish I could of rid it
Brilliant video thank you! What is there now where the old water chute and pirate ship were? I can't quite get my bearings. Thank you
They were where Valhalla is now. A large indoor fun house used to be there too, and Tidal Wave & Water Chute were at the left hand side of it
Ah, the days when you could go in & walk about without being charged.
Until they probably started getting drunkards and hen parties wandering in
Blame the local chavs for that
Drunks and drug users also wandered around the park. Not nice for children to see at all.
Personally I like that idea of pay to enter because then you get free infinite rides, until closing.
When the park was busy! Would love to know the visitor stats compared to then and now.
used to get packed crowds...I am 64 and remember those times..
Still busy now
Jusy look how white the big dipper is, prob not been painted since then 😂
I thought that!
Paint can’t speed up the rotting process of wood. That’s why the woodies don’t get painted anymore

Thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching!
The log flume was great back then.
Hey, any idea what model of camera this was filmed on? Thank you :)
It was a Sony Hi 8 camcorder. Not sure of the model number though.
Laughing Policeman brings it all back more than anything,
Interesting footage
Operations really have nose dived, haven't they. Just look at Avalanche dispatching when the train in front is only half way through the course.

2:46 got wifey on the Log Flume. That was hilarious. My mouth has never worked as hard as it did on that ride. She forgave me though.

Before the best roller coaster came
Didn't realise Joaquin phoenix had a job at Blackpool 5.45
Of course the Yanks weren't to be outdone - As soon as we built the world's tallest rollercoaster, they had to build one that was even higher.
