Just incase anybody wondered...the music used throughout the ghost train since the 1970s...is 'Impressions of Sorcerer' by Tangerene Dream. Great video Darren as per ❤
That's just taken me back 50 years to my childhood thank you Darren for sharing such a unique insight into both the history and the behind the scenes workings of Blackpools historic ghost train. 👍
What a step back in time down memory lane. It was 1982 , I was 12yo the last time I went on that train. Its not changed that much. It was always the place to regroup. Everyone knew where it was. Thanks for this. Love it. God I'm old 😢
Another great video. I have said it before and will say it again, your photo-fades are fantastic. No one else does them as good as you. I haven't watched one of your posts without learning something. You must spend a age researching and editing. Thank you. Your efforts are not wasted.
Oh wow how good was that. So interesting and informative. Loved all your photos and filming. So much history but Darren as always you are keeping all alive. Thank you.
One of my favourite rides ever in the Pleasure Beach. I love the fact that once a year they add new scenes in the ride but also keep the vintage charm to it. Speaking of that this year they're having some new scenes in the ride and in March the Pleasure Beach fanclub (I have joined this year) are helding an event where you walk the Ghost Train which I am so excited to do!
Brilliant video! I love the Ghost Train and I’ve never seen any behind the scenes footage before and the old photographs / footage are really good. It’s fascinating how it’s evolved over the years.
Darren, I loved this video. Firstly, because you are in it, and secondly because it brought back such memories of my own 'Ghost Train' rides when I was a kid. And this Ghost Train was a particularly good one, indeed!! Thank you!!
As always fantastic detailed history of the best Ghost Train I know, (Great Yarmouth no 2) Would love to see a bts of Alice one day , especially maintenance shed, not seen the carriage with the rabbit for a long long time, was told that's where he was hiding...
Another banger. I love the Pleasure Beach. I finally rode the Ghost Train after finding out all about the history and genuinely had an amazing time. I'm so happy its still running even in a different location. There's so much history that's been destroyed in the park for one reason or another I feel like grabbing on to every bit that's left 😂
Very interesting. The tunnel section looks very different to how I remember it in the early 80s, and it's that it now turns much slower. Anybody else remember Hyacinth Bucket on this?
YOU DIDN'T THANK CLOGGY!!! Thank you tho Darren, I'm suffering BPB withdrawals cos I didn't get to go last year, and this has (somewhat) scratched my itch ❤
Brings back alot of childhood memories... not been in the park since the pay on entry days... i'll be back one day! I counted 15 but i may have missed some!
Fascinating video Darren always love these behind the scenes on fairground or theme park rides. I remember a certain paranormal tv show making a programme here a few years ago and mentioning Cloggy the former worker ghost that reportedly haunts this ride.
Brilliant! That’s broken so many memories for me….. I always remember being scared stiff in that revolving tunnel as quite a young kid and I never tied it back to that…
Loved this one Darren and love the Ghost Train. Looking forward to hopefully more behind the scenes videos from Blackpool Pleasure Beach! Do you plan of doing the River Caves?
That’s the first time I’ve seen behind that fire escape door and I’ve been on a walking tour of the Ghost Train before. Thanks for the maps showing the layout of the track and - even better - the way the whole area is laid out. I’ve always been fascinated by how they fitted so much into that single area, with the River Caves, Gold Mine and Ghost Train all merging into the same space, or so it seems. I completely missed that it was actually triangular! Now all I need is to see how the Gold Mine track interlinks with it all.
Thanks Darren what an absolute treat for us all, i would love to walk that ride and nearly as much as the long lost Goldmine which was my all time fav, im so glad they kept the Bikes from when i was a kid. We still ride this every time we visit the Pleasure Beach.
Such a classic ride the Ghost Train and always fun to ride every time I visit Pleasure Beach. I remember one time some years back where me and my brother got stuck because the flying skull that used to be there actually fell off and got lodged under the car we were in. After being there for a while, we had no choice but to get out of the car as there was a burning smell coming from the car. When the ride attendant saw us come out, we immediately told him what happened and he understood and let us head out. It was a shame what happened to the flying skull as it was a really good effect.
I remember the flying skull. It's great that for the new character not quite sure what he is I think he's either a ghoul or zombie they used the same mechanism. I do miss the eye popping portrait that used to be in the section where the bone grinder wheels are I do like the new effect with the video screen but that doesn't always work.
Another fantastic video today. The video is unique today because of the absence of the usual crowds. The tour is much more important to view. Thank you for your labours on these videos. Unique to say the least. Cheers Darren! 😊
Great vid Darren. Love the Blackpool Ghost train and great to see behind the scenes. I remember as a kid in the 80s i seem to have a memory that there was a witch next to the Slimer ghost which was also on a slider, plus the big skull jaw moved up and down on top of the ride. I wonder where the massive beckoning bell boy ghoul at the entrance to the ride has gone? Will always have affection for this ride.
Awesome behind the scenes tour of the ghost train Darren and it is great to see Andy , Claire and Ady on the vlog i can't wait to see what it is like for this year considering they are doing a refurbishment as scaffolding has been seen around the facade and the new animatronics that have been made for the 2024 season i definitely agree with Ady that it is a type of roller coaster in some form because of the drop and the chain lift hill 🎢🎢👻👻
I am really surprised that thry scrapped the old wild mouse. This park spends insane money to maintain its old rides and makes sure to repair all of its coasters. They could have demolished the big one as its rough and as far as hypers go its sub par. But they spent crazy money to have a company remake the old arrow track and retracked the entire thing. I get the wild mouse had issues with the brakes bit they could have cinverted it back to the old style brakes and continued operating it. I was really suprised they tore it down and didnt even give people a chance to ride it one last time.
this was so cool! i've never had the opportunity to head overseas and explore pleasure beach, but it's now on my list for sure. thank you for the behind the scenes walk and history of the ride!!
I am counting 15 Mr. Funshine's in the video and 1 on the thumbnail if that counts. I really LOVE this idea. I am actually doing something similar in my VR Theme Park where I have hidden my Immersive Boi Medallions in the first dark ride, and now I am in the process of hiding treasure chests to be found in the second dark ride. One day I will turn it into a competition too. Thanks for making this video as I just love seeing behind the scenes in old dark rides. Very inspirational.
I got 16 Mr.Funshine logos in the video and 1 on the Thumbnail picture if that counts? 😄 Great as always, brilliant footage, pictures of my favourite place. Great days, great memories. 👍 bravo Darren 👏👏. Best Wishes. Michael
Was one of my favourite rides in the Pleasure Beach, I have seen on other video bloggers regading the revolving wheel near the end that it had change which is very disappointing and does not look as good, needs to go back to the old way of doing a full continuous revolve to get that sensation going through the dark,
So fascinating as alwasy! Did not know the shape of the building, the fire exit when you opened it looked as scary! Did not know it was one chain either, hadn't even noticed they were in line. Love it. Going for 15 Funshines!
I absolutely loved your video on the history of the Ghost train in Blackpool. I counted 14 Mr Funshines 😀 Sarah Bean , I visit Blackpool every year and never get boring or old as there's always something to do.
Thank you for showing around the ghost train ... Im afraid I was a bit of a scaredy-cat when I was a kid and was frightened to go on these rides but once I did go on it with my Auntie and there were things above us touching our hair so don't know what they were lol. So many great memories in Blackpool for me when my parents were here and when my son was in his pushchair and we would visit the zoo. Thanks again Darren xx
Thanks Darren - very interesting. As a child, the scariest part for me was the tunnel, as it was so disorientating back then, when it was lined with with lights, and as it rotated you (well I) started to feel seasick as you lost all perspective of up and down. But I always thought it was done by the rows of lights flashing on and off in a sequence, to make it feel like it was rotating - I never knew it actually rotated. I have to say the tunnel looked very lame in your video in comparison to my memories. The other scary thing were the strips of black plastic hanging down in places, which felt like some apparition running its ghostly fingers over your face and down your neck. I guess they'd be too much a fire risk now.
Yes in the early 80s that tunnel was a bright yellow brick effect & I panicked thinking we were going to tip over! lol. I agree that it doesn’t seem as scary now especially this behind the scenes look.👻🩻
I've only been to Blackpool once in the 90's. Thinking about going in the summer so I will definitely keep my eye out for this. Brilliant video Darren, sorry I'm late watching it.
Wow this is really something,i saw another video of this dark ride and it is one of a kind! In the 80s in a greek fair happening in my hometown thessaloniki macedonia each september we had a really small version of it called treno fantasma, which means basically ghost train! Back then it was filled with all shorts of stuff but with the years they always removed something because they didn't do repairs etc on the ride! The amazing thing with you and about this out there is the fact that you keep it going after so many decades and also improving it instead trashing it and leave it to rot! I wasn't sure for the names origin but now as i see it came from you as well, didn't knew that this was the names of the spooky dark rides back then for all those to be honest with you.I always thought that this name was from our ppl mostly in greece,or europe at best! In things that would seem minor when it comes to entertainment to us you keep the tradition alive behind those things, making them also show historical! And it is i wish we would have a theme park in greece,or a fun park good enough but in my region in the city i live they don't wanna make something like this because of bad economy and of course they are not visionaries as a whole!
Hi Darren, great video as always. I am from Australia and we dont have many ghost train rides here anymore. There was a terrible fire in the ghost train in Luna Park in Sydney in 1979, lots of people tragically killed, and the ghost trains seemed to disappear after that. Interestingly on your map you showed the ghost train next to the river caves, that is exactly how it was set up here as well.
This is brilliant!!!!!! I’ve been wondering for ages what the layouts were. Maybe you will be the man to also do the river caves layout and show how this combines with the space of not just the river caves but Wallace & Gromit!
@@AdventureMe yes I spotted that - so are all three of those ride buildings actually separate with just very thin walls? I know there is a part when on Wallace you can really hear the river caves music (and also those 2 rides did both come together at one point in what was the magnolia cafe). Truly fascinated with this.
22:20 I went on this ride more than 20 years ago. Just before i came out the last doors back into day light, something touched my face. I thought it was dangling string but some told me it was probably Clogs as dangling string would be unhygienic
This is what's missing, something that brushes against you. Perhaps a black sheet hanging from the ceiling, though not very hygienic if someone vomits over it. But it beats being struck by dangling clogs!
This is what's missing, something that brushes against you. Perhaps a black sheet hanging from the ceiling, though not very hygienic if someone vomits over it. But it beats being struck by dangling clogs!
Darren..Abit of trivia fro you if did'nt know the "ghost train" play (later turned into a film staring Arthur Askey) was writen by Arnold Ridley who played private Godfrey in dads army? After being stranded for an evening at Mangotsfield railway station, near Bristol, Ridley was inspired to write the play . THAT is one of the stations i have mentioned before when a talked about you doing the bristol to bath railway walk , still walls and platforms there to see! Also on a different note in the vid at around 4min 31 you get a blocky patch of interferance on the vid ( just 1 small area) ..could that be Cloggy messing about with your vid equipment? you never know! 😉🤣🤣 Thanks for this behind the scenes walkthrough I spotted stuff that i had never noticed before (although it is quite a few yrs since a ivisted BPB abd the ghost train ..still one of my faves ...i love the classic old rides they still have like this the river caves and of course the brillaint woodie coasters they have! although i do miss the mad mouse!
So enjoyed this video! I also remember the tunnel when it rotated fully and didn't the circular end panel rotate aswell? First time l ever went on it l really thought l was turning upside down (that was a very, very long time ago!!) 😂
Have you ridden it this new season yet..some great new additions in there ...with more to come..it truly makes you jump big time now...its excellent..I rode it yesterday...back in 2 weeks time to try again
Love the design of these Roller-ghosters. They certainly get up quite a bit of speed suddenly for such a tiny drop. I used to keep trying to build these on RollerCoaster Tycoon but they always ended with the cars crashing off the slope going back up and blowing up, lol. My favourite bit there has to be that set of skeletons on pedal bikes.
Brilliant as always Darren, thank you. Trauma Towers though - I've done some digging and can't find much sadly but have vivid memories of this walkthrough ride. I remember a business man hanging onto a rope with a briefcase tied on the end... (Or it was a very bad dream?)? *It was the Haunted Hotel when I visited*
What an informative look at the history and workings of such an iconic Pleasure Beach ride! Great competition idea too! I (Lloyd G. K.) counted 16 Mr. Funshine faces. (1 on the thumbnail and 15 within the video) 🤞
Oh this was absolutely Fantastic to watch! I never got to go around there, we arrived decades ago out of season and that was that. It looks absolutely wonderful ❤ 😊
Another cracking video, thank you. As an old fart now, turned 49 yesterday, I wish they would encase the skull a little more in a tower construction again. Also it would be nice to see the shoulders and shoulder blades back in place along with the motorised jaw. It just lacks the impact it used to have. I'll never forget them adding Green Ghost and the giant bat back in the day, good times.
Darren, nothing beats classic dark rides. My favorite Disneyland rides are the original Fantasyland dark rides. That must have been a blast to walk through the ride with a flashlight/torch looking at all the things to make the ride function that you normally don't see while riding the ride. mike
I rode the Blackpool Ghost train in the 1960's prior to my family emigrating to California. Most 'ghost rides' at English fun fares were a bit rubbish. Sooner or later, in pitch black, you'd get a dank burlap sack to the face . . . so I was not a fan. The Blackpool ghost train was night and day a far superior ride. That being said Mr Toad's is quite good as it also uses that oncoming train effect.
@@sweetsunnyvibes Hmmm You sound constipated or something. Maybe get out of mommy's basement, go outside and get some fresh air and sun --- the sun is that big round thing up in the sky.....
So glad theyve cherished this old ride and kept it in top shape! I also believe the large troll animatronic out front is a Distortions Unlimited product which means it came from my home state, Colorado!
_The Ghost Train_ was originally (1923) a stage play, written by Arnold Ridley, who later played the elderly Private Godfrey in _Dad's Army_ .
That Arnold Ridley script was adapted into a 1941 film starring Arthur Askey.
yep, and it's on YT to watch free
Wow that's cool.
@@rickparkinmotovery funny it is to
Most interesting. Dear Arnold. Born in Bath I believe.
Nice to see the Ghost Train is still running. My all-time favourite rides were the Log Flume and the Gold Mine.
Darren, this style of video is what made your channel what it is, please keep your format. All the best Dave
I like the beck-tidying ones.
Just incase anybody wondered...the music used throughout the ghost train since the 1970s...is 'Impressions of Sorcerer' by Tangerene Dream. Great video Darren as per ❤
That's fab, always wondered what the music was.
@@kathrynthomas6138 no problem Kathryn. It always stood out to me so I'm sure it's the same for others. Proper funky tune too 😁

Nice thankyou re the music ❤
Excellent video ❤

Blimey. This takes me back to when my Grandad used to take me on this ride every October as a child. It’s barely changed in 40 years.
This is where you shine, loved every minute. The crew running it were fab too.

His great niece is Daisy Ridley from Star Wars
The blip was a rendering issue lol
@@AdventureMe lol aww you spoiled it now! ..could have promoted it as a cloggy experience pmsl! 🤣🤣😉😉
So enjoyed this video! I also remember the tunnel when it rotated fully and didn't the circular end panel rotate aswell? First time l ever went on it l really thought l was turning upside down (that was a very, very long time ago!!) 😂
one of my favorite rides
Have you ridden it this new season yet..some great new additions in there ...with more to come..it truly makes you jump big time now...its excellent..I rode it yesterday...back in 2 weeks time to try again
Not yet no. I've seen the videos. Looking forward to it
Love the design of these Roller-ghosters.
Yes that sounds about right
nice walk through.. great ride
What an informative look at the history and workings of such an iconic Pleasure Beach ride!
Great competition idea too! I (Lloyd G. K.) counted 16 Mr. Funshine faces. (1 on the thumbnail and 15 within the video) 🤞
Great video (loving the photofades as always) and I think you've been sneaky with the Mr Funshines... I'm sure I saw a ghostly one at one point!
Can't make it easy
Oh this was absolutely Fantastic to watch! I never got to go around there, we arrived decades ago out of season and that was that. It looks absolutely wonderful ❤ 😊
Another cracking video, thank you. As an old fart now, turned 49 yesterday, I wish they would encase the skull a little more in a tower construction again. Also it would be nice to see the shoulders and shoulder blades back in place along with the motorised jaw. It just lacks the impact it used to have. I'll never forget them adding Green Ghost and the giant bat back in the day, good times.
What a cracking video, first time I've been on your channel so thanks for the work put into creating the video. I think I spotted 15 of the sunshines!
Welcome aboard!
Another fascinating video, love seeing the corridors from the fire exit. What a labyrinth 😮
Need one of these videos for valhalla 😂
That was amazing video Darren
Thanks bud
Brilliant i loved that video i always loved going on the ghost train
Loved that video mate behind the scenes are the best
Excellent behind the scenes video, really good of the park to allow you to film the ride. Enjoyed this 👍
Thanks 👍
This is my favourite Ghost Train of them all 😊👍 ❤️
Great video and brings back so many childhood memories of BPB 🙂
I counted 16 Mr Funshines.
Great video as usual mate. I got to walk around the bottom of it a few years ago, it was great to see again 👍
That was lovely . Your videos are nicely paced
I can't wait to see new changes in the ghost train for 2024 one of my favorite rides at the park!
You are a man true to my heart!❤️
Love this ride!! Me and my dad always go on this ride every time we come! Its the first ride we go too!!
I counted 16 mr funshines!! -Lilly
They've got a similar Ghost Train on The Palace Pier on Brighton Beach, we use go on that one when we were kids. Great video btw thanks for posting.
I counted 16 (plus 1 in the thumbnail) Mr. Funshine's. Such a cool video idea, very interesting 😃
I LOVE your channel...I've subscribed...it's amazing.....
Welcome aboard
Darren, nothing beats classic dark rides. My favorite Disneyland rides are the original Fantasyland dark rides. That must have been a blast to walk through the ride with a flashlight/torch looking at all the things to make the ride function that you normally don't see while riding the ride.

NO ONE ASKED 😢
@@sweetsunnyvibes Hmmm You sound constipated or something. Maybe get out of mommy's basement, go outside and get some fresh air and sun --- the sun is that big round thing up in the sky.....
So glad theyve cherished this old ride and kept it in top shape! I also believe the large troll animatronic out front is a Distortions Unlimited product which means it came from my home state, Colorado!
Could be
we normally went to Blackpool of a week or two in summer and would spend days in the e pleasure beach. Great video 2x👍
Fun one Darren! I liked the video. Cheers!
