  • Throughout your journey through the Paldea pokemon league in pokemon scarlet and violet you will face gym leaders who use terastal pokemon as their ace. But, what if they used terastalisation in a better way? What if the victory road story was good? Like, really good?

in my opinon iono's mismagius is really good because its abllity levitate means it has no weaknesses making it really hard to beat

It's certainly one of the better ace pokemon used by the gym leaders

I wouldn’t say that the gym leaders used “random” Pokémon. Most fit thematically. Katy uses a Teddiursa because bears like honey. Brassius uses a Sudowoodo because it’s a fake tree. Iono uses a Mismagius because witches are thematically opposed to innovation and technology (electric). Kofu uses Crabominable because it’s based on a sea creature. Rhyme uses Toxtricity because it’s music-related (though I’m not sure what that has to do with ghosts). Tulip uses Florges because it’s associated with beauty, which is her main career (but again I don’t see what beauty has to do with the psychic type), and lastly Grusha uses Altaria because snow , sleet, and hail come from clouds. I left out Larry because I don’t really know why his ace is a Staraptor of all things aside from it being strong.

its staraptor since his other type is flying and it is a flying type.

Seconding what Spook said. The Staraptor is foreshadowing his elite four team. It also can give first time players the impression that his elite four team will end with a flying tera Staraptor. Getting a flighting type instead is actually a cool twist because fighting is super effective to normal.

New theory for Kofu: his team is made of all the pokemons he bought for cooking, but couldn't bring himself to in the end

Always thought it was weird that despite them using a different type Pokémon for their ace, they always use the type that their gym is associated with.
Hope that with any further Gym Leader rematches, they incorporate these ideas!

Iono’s team is perfect for the early game. The best strats involve using normal types against her ace. You would never expect to see her ace in a blind play through. She’s the only gym leader that made me develop a plan to beat her constantly.

Plot twist: Kofu is a VEGAN seafood chef. That's why you gotta get him some seaweed for his gym test. lol (Is vegan seafood a thing?)

While I do think that what they did with the gym leaders did make for a decent showing of Terastalizing, your take on it lends so many more character moments to it. It also turns the possible strategies in on its head in ways that no other gym leader really has.
I would hope that other trainers did something like this too. It bothered me that Penny’s ace is a Sylveon, yet when she tera’s it she claims she’s ‘making Sylveon who it really wants to be’. Thing is, it’s already a fairy type. So narratively, how is that changing Sylveon into its true self?
I can somewhat understand dropping a second type. Rikka’s Clodsire is no longer weak to psychic or ground. Hassel’s Baxcalibur is resistant to fire again.
But at the same time, it still doesn’t really change how you face them. By tera-ing into their type speciality, they lose out on defensive benefits they would’ve had and act like any other single typed mon that you would’ve defeated seconds before.
How is beating a Steel Tinkaton any different from a Copperajah?
And honestly, Hassel annoys me the most in that regard. He literally has an art class about defensive tera, and almost no one uses it.
Honestly I wish all terastalizing trainers turned their ace into a type that didn’t match theirs.

I too felt that the gym leaders used the gimmick wrong, what you did in this video is exactly what I wanted them to have done, great video!

Kind of unrelated but Skeledirge is actually a perfect Pokémon for Ryme, being a Ghost type singer and all
Shame nowadays they aren't willing to give NPC trainers starters

6:56 The vanilla game broke its own apparent rules as Larry's the only Gym Leader to Terastallize a Pokémon of their own type. You should let him remain the one exception, and keep Staraptor with either a Normal or Flying Tera Type!

    • @CaptainFidget
      @CaptainFidget  ปีที่แล้ว +3

If was certainly a consideration. Looking back now I think Larry breaks this rule as a hint to the fact that he is an elite 4 member

Loved the video although small mistake Sudowoodo isn't a single stage it has a baby stage being Bonsly also poor little Eiscue but I could also imagine it would have a somewhat similar relationship with Beartic to Kiawe's Turtonator and Alolan Marowak from the anime

Oh yeah Bonsly 😂 my little gen 2 loving heart completely forgot about that baby

@Captain Fidget tbf I only remember it due to Brock having one in the Battle Frontier series of the anime 🤣 its a pretty forgettable mon without that

I think this was a much better way to use the tera types. Iona's the only one who did something beneficial to her team by picking Mismagius

  • @MagusAgrippa8

I thought that the gym leaders using unrelated Pokémon that turned into their type was pretty cool. My problem was with the elite four, Geeta, and Nemona’s final fights.
They just turned their ace into its own type. There was nothing creative there, no fun extra strategy nor interesting attempt. Why does Geeta have to tera Rock her Glimmora (or use it last when its ability is going to be nowhere near as effective)? What’s stopping Nemona from using some sort of Water Tera Meowscarada to counter my Skeledirge, for instance? And just. The elite four disappointed me greatly. I’m already most likely building the team to counter their type speciality. I’m probably not intending to use Fighting type moves on Hassel’s Baxcalibur, I’m probably intending to smack it with Dragon or Ice moves. Which Tera Dragon does nothing to prevent.

Personally I prefer of other types terastalizing into the gyms type when they fit the theme like sudowoodo (a fake tree becoming a real one ) and teddiursa (a bugbear)
