You know how much times I've dropped my 2ds face first and there wasn't even a scratch on the screen? ALOT.
They are built well. I got my 3ds when it came out. All is well with it all this time later.

I like how affordable the 2DS is compare to other DS devices but I'll probably save my money to get the 3DS XL.

I don't think that Nintendo is going to create a 2DS XL because the 2DS already is too big to fit in your pocket and it is pretty big enough now

Gaming Idiot My 2ds fits in my pocket. :P I don't reccomend it, though. 2 days after I got it, I was walking my dog whilst using the streetpass feature. My dog decided it would be fun to dangle up the leash around my legs, which cause me to trip and fall, thus breaking my 2ds's internal screens. Oddly enough, I didn't even fall on my 2ds. It was in my left pocket, and I fell and landed on my right hip. It's not as durable as you think. I'm going to send it in for repair tomorrow, and I very much intend on getting a carrying case soon after.

If that happends you need to remove the backside and connect the battery (atleast on the 3ds I am not sure it can on the 2ds) the pins aren't alined good so it has a big chance of turning off even if you drop it just 10 cm

It isn't just great for younger kids, it's great for college students as well. The 2DS being $40 cheaper is great for students on a budget and they already carry a backpack to school with them so finding a place to carry the 2DS when you're on the go is no problem.
Also, if you were to a store looking to spend no more than $200 on a 3DS and a new game, you could instead chose to buy the 2DS and buy two games.

Actually guys, where I come from people can't afford 3DSs. I've been a massive fan of Pokemon since RBY but after the release of RSE and onwards I've had to wait 3-4 years before I could play them. My parents really saved for it and I could play XY only a few weeks after its release - thanks Nintendo!! Really, if you can afford a 3DS and you hate 2DS boohoo - the 2DS wasn't designed for you. The 2DS was for people who can't afford a 3DS - I really love mine and appreciate that Nintendo did this :)
I just bought one along with Animal Crossing New Leaf in a bundle after my 3DS got stolen. I really thought, that this device would be cheap, but guess what its not. I really appriciate the way this thing is build. I gotta say that, from the way it feals in your hands, it is the most comfortable handheld, nintendo has ever produced. Sure, the 2DS is not foldable AND it has only one speaker, but I don't mind it that much. Actually I think it to be a bit nostalgic. The sound, commin' out of the 2DS, reminds me of the sound from my old game boy color. :D Games load fast and the grafics are really appealing. I can play hours and hours on the 2DS, while I had to take some breaks during sessions, playing with the 3DS. I am happy to own it and for 99€ including AC New Leaf, it was a STEAL!

It's really comfy actually, I just thought it would be some weird uncomfortable block to hold but I couldn't have been more mistaken. It just fits the hands and there is no other way to describe it, it's an ergonomic bliss. Though i don't like the d-pad on it at all.
Some people prefer the fold, some people don't. I like the fact that there variety.

Actually, 2ds' are very resilient. My brother threw and dropped his hundreds of times. It finally broke down on a trip to yellow stone when he placed it on the part of the seat that folds down to hold cups. He then got mad later and slammed the seat up with his 2ds on it. The cup holder went through the screen.

Definitely invest it because they protect from scratch which also make your 2DS more valuable than the one in bad condition. I’m kinda OCD especially when It come to my old Gameboy and WonderSwan console because there are not a lot of OEM shell replacement and aftermarket shell is China shit.
My son whom is 5 is getting this for Christmas. When I sow it I was like this is perfect for him. My 9 yr old had a 3ds and it popped of it hinges (pissed). With the 2ds it seems way more sturdy and I like that it doesn't have the 3d switch. It also reminds me of the original game boy (just a little). I can't wait to see how it performs in the next year.

Actually young man the 2ds is fabulously sturdy. My son loves it and I've tested it out myself. My daughter has a new 3ds xl and its hinges are fine. However I and my cousin have experienced the screen coming unhinged for the 3ds. This is my personal experience. There is going to be normal wear and tear. My child took good care of her/his 3ds it still shouldn't have popped of its hinges. Its not like she threw it up against the wall then obviously it would be my child's fault and ultimately mine. When I spoke to Nintendo they weren't surprised and offered to replace the unit for a fee that was almost equal to the amount of a new unit. Needless to say everyone is happy with there individual systems.
I had a hinge break on a ds, and you can buy a new casing (like actual casing with hinges and all) and fix it yourself.
DragonGirl I've never had a hinge break with any of my DS's or Gameboy SP's. And I was an angry child. So it was that particular unit not DS/3DS's in general.

I won't really recommend you the 2DS if you want to play Monster Hunter because there's no Circle Pad Pro or a C-Stick in the 2DS so I would recommend the New 3DS(XL) or 3DS XL for the Circle Pad Pro. It's really worth it 👌
But if you're only willing to play Pokémon then just get the 2DS if you're on a tight budget :)

Just got the 2ds for 79.99 at wal-mart and there selling the 3ds for 199.99 so I got the 2ds. And its better then I thought it would be.
The 3DS is supposed to be sold for $175. Nintendo dropped the price from 250 to 175 several years ago

Own it, love it. So comfortable to hold (especially with the Nerf grip) and the screen is actually brighter and better quality. The 3ds for some reason has very pale colors and it's overall pretty dim, but not the 2ds.

Nintendo has an official ebay store that sells them factory refurbished for $60. I bought one right after X-mas and they come packaged exactly like brand new except the box says "refurbished product" on it.

I just got my 6 year old nephew a brand new 2DS for his birthday and he already love it he has at least 10 games rated for everyone and early childhood games he has fallen addicted to it to the point where my sister has to restrict him from playing it now he is only allowed to play it if he does good in school so far he hasn't failed this is why I'm glad I got this one rather than the new 2DS XL because it's too big the 2DS is small enough for him to carry in his book bag and as he grow older he can also play almost all 3DS and DS games😇👍

As a person with gigantic, mega sized construction hands the 2DS’s button layout is a dozen times more comfortable. Whenever I play on a normal ds my thumb is too low so it begins to cramp, but because of where the joystick is it just feels more natural. I bought it for two games: ocarina of time and Majora’s mask, which I am currently thoroughly enjoying. Noted issues obvious, the design leaves the screens exposed, and it is top heavy so it has a tendency to flip and fall on its face. Otherwise, I personally find it to be my favorite Ds that I have owned. As for portability, it fits in my jacket’s inner pocket, so I’ve had no issues with that.

That's actually partially why I bought it. I didn't care about the 3D function that much and I figured I'd use headphones if I wanted quality sound, so the only thing left for me to care about was the lack of clamshell design and... well... it reminds me of a gameboy, so it was a no-brainer for me.
Feels like I'm playing an upgraded gameboy with two screens.

Quite honestly the Nintendo 2DS surprised me. It really is deceptively well designed because while the bright primary colours and plastic shell make you think it was designed for a 4 year old it's build and layout really make for comfortable immersive gaming.
the only thing I like is how the buttons are placed. you can use the dpad more confortably than all of the other 3DS models (including new 2ds xl)
I love my 2ds!!! so comfortable to hold, I actually find it more comfortable then the flip up. and I love that I can play all DS games :)

The 2ds is easily the best handheld from Nintendo. The single speaker really isn't an issue, especially as you can use headphones, and the buttons are super ergonomic.

If it weren't for the fact that this thing doesn't close up like a regular DS, I definitely would have gotten this since I almost never use the 3D feature. The single speaker and quirky screen design are fine, but not being able to just pop it into my pocket when I'm done just makes it too cumbersome.
when you had the original gameboy did you care that it was open? probably not so why does that matter? I like it even though it doesnt fold down

My first handheld was a Gameboy Color, which was more than capable of fitting in my pocket. It's simply a matter of convenience.
That's fine, but now all the stores around me are pulling 3DSs in order to force 2DS sales. Marketing a handheld to be more kid-friendly is fine, but don't try and force it on the people who can handle the normal DS.
actually about dropping it, i was 10 at the time and i was playing acnl on my 2ds, my brothers were in the car, and my dad was driving and my mom was in the passenger seat (we didn't have volume on or we had headphones so we wouldn't distract my dad) mind you this was winter time, so the roads were poop and we were going out of town (we live in a small town without any mall or anything like that (the mall had collapsed years ago) and my dad was driving and the car hit some icy/slushy thing and our car went spinning, i was in too much of shock so i let go of my 2ds (bad idea my lil bro's head was near mine, and it could've hit him in the head and done some damage. but he's fine) and our car was spinning and my oldest brother shrieked. my ds slammed into the side of our car (i have a red ds with black edges. so the opposite of the one in the video) and a bit of the black rim popped out. i was able to just pop it back in place. luckily none of us were hurt. well my 2nd oldest brother hit his back on my mom's 3ds (he was using it not her lol) and his back was in pain for a few days. my mom ended up having a bit of trauma and was afraid of driving again (she doesn't want to renew her license) (is that what it's called?) it's a weird experience. also i have dropped my 2ds multiple times outside, inside ect. (my oldest brother smashed his on the wall in our house because he lost to a Pokemon or something) that's the story i had. lol.

I got a 2ds for Christmas and I have not stop using it. it is a amazing device.
I got a 2DS (Black/Blue) via Pre-order at EB Games (Aus/NZ version of GAME/Gamestop), and I'm friggen LOVING the sucker!
The size isn't too much of a drawback IMO, probably because I have (and only buy) clothing where the pockets are big enough I can hold both a DS Lite & DSi, along with my keys, sunglasses, phone, wallet, and even a decade-old CD player (provided I balance the weight and mass evenly between the pockets).
At $148 AUD from EB Games ($164 AUD from BigW), it was about $100 cheaper than a new 3DS XL, and only item in the 3DS family I could get for cheaper would be a pre-owned 3DS itself ($129 at EB Games).
Oh, back on pocket sizes, I can comfortably fit my 2DS in the pocket of my (cargo) pants, my vest OR my hiking jacket (said jacket being able to hold practically everything I mentioned above in just the one zip-up pocket alone, with a pair of 600mL Coke's in the other pocket along with a sandwich).

i hope that i can play it on2 ds . when I bought my 2ds there was "Pokémon y" on it. so i bought the game and and the ds2 . later i bought "Pokémon Alpha Saphir". I thought Pokémon Sun and moon would be only kompatible for the New ds but I am happy to hear it is not.

For a cheaper price and lack of 3D, you can buy a refurbished 3DSXL from Nintendo and easily disable 3D in your parental controls. I did this for my 3DS, and it's nice not having to worry about accidentally shifting the 3D switch on the top half.
I think it would just be easier to turn on Parental Controls on the 3DS for the younger kids

Putting my handheld in my pocket is a must for me so I wouldn't recomend it and I'd use the 3D sometimes so yeah,if I had the chance to either choose a 3DS or 2DS I'd choose 3DS

I have kids under 7 years old and bought two of these for Christmas. These are way better than getting them a 3ds because they are extremely durable. This was meant for children and it isn't recommended that kids under 7 use the 3d aspect of the ds. Anyways great for kids. If you are older I would suggest the 3ds not the 2ds. If you just want to play the games and save money just get the 2ds you will be happy cause the 2ds/3ds systems and games are awesome!

Graystripe000 It's not about rage at all. Smaller kids that don't know how to handle fragile plastics could damage the clam shell counterparts easily. You'd really have to try to break a 2DS in half, I know I couldn't do it with my bare hands. But my 6 year old, like most 6 year olds, doesn't care about being cautious and will whip my GBA SP and DSi open and could break either in half with little to no effort. The slab design was a major selling point for me because there are no moving parts to wear out and/or break!

It has nothing to do with anger. My kids run around with the handheld, for example the run to the couch or what not and sometime they trip and the 3ds can break but now I have the 2ds and my son has dropped it several times and I wasn't worried at all. It is very sturdy. Love the 2ds.
I smashed part of the hinge on my original 1st one (my old 2DS XL). No surviving ever. When I try to turn it on it greets Mii to a pop.
It's worth it if you want to play 3DS games but don't care or don't want the 3D function and thus don't want to pay for a function you won't use.
IMO the 3D is great so I'm content with my regular 3DS but I understand why the 2DS is great as well.

I got the crystal blue 2DS and oh my god it is fresh! The crystal blue reminds me of the classic colored n64's, the see through ones and my friend with a 3DS is very jealous because of that and it runs games much more smoothly than on a 3DS maybe because the 3D feature took up a lot of space? Idk but it's totaly worth the money you save which I used to buy Omega Ruby which is AMAZING.

2DS is a great buy. You get the opportunity to play all the games available on the 3DS for a much cheaper priced console and the 2DS is much more comfortable to play for hours. I think a handheld that doesnt have hinges is a lot better for kids. Hinged ones risk breaking in hands of littles ones. Just get a case and screen covers. 2DS is also actually quite durable as well.
Dumb question but if I buy this will I be able to play Pokemon (battle) with 3DS/3DSXL users? I had to sell my XL because money was tight but the new Pokemon is coming out and I don't want to miss it.

I was reluctant to pick up a 2DS due to how stupid it looks, but trust me it's actually quite good. It is very comfortable for people with larger hands and is built pretty well. For people who want a 3DS I would recommend this because it is $100 dollars cheaper, and plus you can buy some more games with that saved money ;)
I have the chance to get a perfect condition unused 2ds from a friend for $25 should I do it? I just want it for pokemon and animal crossing. For some reason the 2ds look a bit uncomfortable to hold, i'm 14 so my hands aren't really big.

I love the aesthetic of the 2DS and everything about it, right down to the engraved buttons and even engraving the d-pad, as opposed to basic design. But, the N3DS just had more to offer in the power department with the faster loading and such, so I had to choose it over the 2DS. At least it has a matte finish still, but I am rather disappointed that the buttons and d-pad are not engraved. The 2DS is also much more comfortable to hold, but it is rather sad that it is not 3D.
I would love a version of the 2DS that has the N3DS' power, 3D, and its 3D tracking capabilities obviously; stereo sound (seriously, why was this omitted) and microSD. That is all it really needs, cause then I would buy one so quick. The bumpers are significantly better as well, though I do believe they have always had the engraved lettering, so that is nothing new.

Yes, it does have an option to turn off the 3D. If you ask me, I would go 3DS XL all the way since I own it. Bigger screen and better experience.

You should buy a 2ds if you don't care about the 3d which I don't even put on and it's wayyyyy cheaper than the 3ds
3ds XL is better than 2ds and 3ds, if you like big screens like i do, but the best to buy is i think the 2ds, 3D diesnt matter, cheaper, lays better in the hand, just my opinion, but i think its true.

Battery is around 3-4 hour for 3DS games
And DS is around 5-6 hours
3ds games last 3-5.5 hours but the old ds games last like 5-8 hours. Either way just grab a car charger and you should be good 👍🏻

for the price the 2ds is pretty nice and overall worth it.
my biggest issue is the size, I have large hands and really just being an adult is problem enough.
if they made a 2ds xl I would 100% be down to buy that.

The smaller screen in comparison to that of the 3DS XL is a huge drawback for me. The difference is astounding. Don't get me wrong, I can see why some people prefer the 2DS because it's cheaper, but if you really want to get the most out of the 3DS games you gotta have an XL.
